View Full Version : Peripheral Pricing (Guitars, Drums, et.al.)

To the rockband developers: Please provide quality peripherals, especially drums. Many of us will pay whatever they cost. Even consider coming out with a "premium" part for those of us who will pay for it.
I'm a 35 year old male, family of four, grad school education, plenty of disposable income, and will gladly pay big money for a good game with good peripherals that the wife and kids will enjoy playing.
We drop $50 eating out and don't even think about it. We won't think about dropping much more than that for a good controller.

I'm 21, working freelance videography, earning crap all trying to get into the industry. It's taking me months to save up for RockBand, let alone a ps3.
I don't think Harmonix would make people pay more for peripherals that are super strong when you can get others that are already perfectly fine for a more reasonable price. I think when it comes down to it most gamers don't have wads of cash to throw around.

I'm a 19 year-old College Student looking for employment, my only source of income now is $25 weekly from Grandma for yard-work and random errands. For me, games are usually bought used, borrowed, or saved up for. GH1 was a gift from a friend who doesn't own a PS2 but wanted to play, GHII was payback for lots of random trips out of town. The controllers will probably cost about as much as a regular controller, a guitar controller now is about $50 around Iowa. I can see Harmonix releasing three different versions aside from the game by itself; one with just a guitar, one with a guitar and a microphone, and another with a guitar and a drum controller. This is of, course ignoring the idea that the guitar may not be the central focus. They may just release four versions, one with each type of controller, and then force you to buy the three other controllers separately.

Um I'm pretty sure that the biggest market for this game is young people. and young people don't have that much money. nor will they waste the little bit of money they do have to one game. (unless they are obsessive)

Too expensive and people will complain of the cost; too cheap and people will complain of the quality. It's a pretty fine line they've gotta walk >_<;

personally i think they should take the razor/blade approach to this. sell the periphreals for cheap (allmost at a loss if necessary) and than make the money back on the game at an increased price, as well as any content or future games that will continue to use the periphreals.
granted this whole tactic relies on the fact that Rock Band isnt going to be the only game made to use these periphreals

do what i did when i needed to get a job. put some somewhat nice clothes on, get your walkin shoes on (or get your car if your old enough to drive, at the time i couldnt so i hoofed it) and ask for a job application from everyone who is hiring. i know good places to consider usually are grocery stores (at least in the california area: the grocers union is huge, youll get hooked up good there), clothing stores like mervyns, and restaurants. if you live somewhere in the vicinity of a shopping mall that works out great too because those usually can allways use some extra hands. fill those job applications out as soon as you can, within two days at the latest. usually the managers keep good tabs on when people come in for job applications, and if you turn in one more than two days later their gonna think your not seriously looking for work.

Thank you. I believe this is for posting ideas/thoughts on the peripherals, NOT on suggestions how to get a job.
HOWEVER:
I noticed via digg.com that the drums will have the left most pad (red) be a snare drum, and the other 2 or 3 pads be toms which will automatically switch to cymbols depending on what the song calls for. And there will be a kick pad (obviously)
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
I'm assuming the cost will be affordable, but will still set ya back some

I'm not the same guy who mentioned the article. Looking around on the net, and none of it really seemed to be more than a week old. The information was from a magazine (Game Informer I believe?), but for some reason no one has gotten any scans up yet.
