Ok I know we have a lot of GTA fanboys in this world, however, I am sure there is a small sect of Saint's Row fanboys around somewhere.

I personally prefer Saint's Row over GTA, and Saint's Row 2 looks likes a very promising game. I believe there will be an addition of motorcycles, helicopters, and planes in this sequel, for a Game Informer long ago who previed the creators said they would definately push for those vehicles in their sequel since we didnt have any in the first Saint's Row. SR2 also looks like it will have a female character option for those chick gamers or guys who wanna play as a chick (nothing wrong with that!). I just personally cant wait!

I think I liked the demo more than the actual game. It was pretty limited but since the wanted level only went up to 3 stars it was pretty easy to jump on top of a car and kill everyone. I'll get it on PS3 so it doesn't look so rediculous on my gamercard. Cheats > achivements

I just wanna resurrect my character which was an exact replication of me. I wish I had pictures. The story is going to be good I think.

I want a more in depth main character. I thought guys like Julius and King were great, but i felt my own guy was just........there. Kinda like gta3. Vice city was much better because Vercetti actually showed some character. The one line your guy spewed out at the end of each gang storyline stunk.

Lol, it made me chuckle, cuz since my character was me pretty much, and he spit out some gangsta words, I was like "wow thats not me!" lol. Who knows, the characters might actually show some character in this one since its supposed to be our characters getting his "revenge".

I am a Saints Row fan-man (pubes damnit!) but my favorite game is, and always forever will be, Vice City. My favorite game on the Xbox 360 is Saints Row (Not online). I wanted that game ever since that video came out on GameSpot with a collection of 360 games with that Kaiser Chiefs song playing in the back. When Saints Row 2 comes out, I'll be staying up for weeks on end playing it. I may even make sweet sweet love to the disc. For serious.

I love this game, big breathe of fresh air since the GTA games. I'd say Saints is about the only one that you could actually compare to GTA games. Anyways, I liked this game a whole lot more than GTA because of the customization, the only thing that bothered me was lack of map size/vehicles. Everything else was ace (except for some of those really bad bugs lol). I felt like my character fit me well in the game too, I'm not a "gangsta wannabe" kid I'm a goth. But the way he reacted to the things that went on around him just seem like I would say that too. Hopefully there is more talking in the game. And hopefully the online play will be a lot better, I would play it online now but I don't have anyone that actually wants to play a game.

So many 12 year olds play it and all they do is yell at each other and try to act liked bad asses. Plus they team kill like crazy =\. I'm definitely getting SR2 though, and hopefully not only will they have cars/planes/motorcycles/helicopters, but boats would be hot as well. Ah, and hopefully we can customize some bikes... Man that'd be some hot ****. Also a bandana for the mouth would be kinda cool too.

^ Your link'o'epicness

Only 2 player co-op and theres supposedly some huge new online multiplayer mode.

Edit: The city has been enlarged! New vehicles including new air and sea! This new SR will be giving GTA a run for its money I think. Looks very very pleasing to me! And now you can create a chick too I believe, which is good cuz now some of my female friends will play it.

btw, I know what you mean. I played SR online religiously for a while and I got quite good, but no matter your skill...a good ol' tk will bring you to your knees. It got real old. Id be all up for going online with a few forumers a starting a "gang" like the old days, if that option still exists...

I like a good fair game.

Same, yeah man I use to play it online too when it was first out people didn't really TK as much as they do now though. It's like every second someone is Tking someone. It isn't fun at all.

Just saw the screenshots, man this game is definitely going to be good. Hopefully better than GTA4. (That's coming from a guy that's played since the first GTA.)

Heard...

The original GTAs were so annoying to play, lol. GTA3 was amazing cuz it was a new thing...then it got repetative. San Andreas wasnt bad cuz it had a lot more stuff you could do...

Then when Saint's Row came along to a system that didnt really have much going on at the time, it was amazing. Still is almost. I loved the customization, the freedom, and the intricate detail alone was amazing...I mean come on, there was a soccer ball in the chimney at the Rollerz Mansion!!! I used to make little games out of stupid, pointless things like kicking propane tanks into cars...that was a riot!

SmokaCola
09-27-2007, 03:56 PM
Yeah, I could literally sit for hours with a platinum RPG and shoot at the front of cars to watch them do back flips. And the first GTAs weren't that bad once you got the hang of em. London was the worst though, even after getting use to the road change (had to drive on the left side of the road). It still sucked, as far as the newer GTAs i'd say Vice City for the computer is my favorite and San Andreas for the PS2 is my favorite. Just for the sole fact of character modification I like Saints Row better than any GTA game now, If GTA4 doesn't have some kind of modification ( atleast new clothes and such ) or car customization for that matter i'll be kind of disappointed.

Just realized this.

Dual pistols? Man I hope that is really in the game and not just a preview to get hype up.

By another screen shot I saw from the EGM magazine. I think you get to hold people at gun point too. Dual weapons would be sick! And if you look closely the closest cop has a can of pepperspray.

I loved Saints Row. The reason your guy never talked is because one of the main GTA3 programmers came over to do that game... So the character development was kept generic because he did so well in GTA3.

And the one liners? Those were awesome! The first time my character ever spoke, I had no idea it was coming... And then suddenly the latina comes running up and she's talking about the bag of shoes that are this year's spring collection, and my character says, "Bullsh*t! That's last year's FALL COLLECTION!" I thought that to be freakin' hilarious!

This is true, I had forgotten that the GTA(3? I thought it was the original GTA programmers...same people???)programmers had worked on it, which is why it was probably so good. 2 is going to be ultimate though...I think its going to be a lot of fun and give GTA4 a good run.

There really is a good chance it will. GTA is starting to get played out, The only thing different now is the story. Not much they can do with it considering you can't customize your character, I don't even think GTA4 will have multiplayer and that's a pretty huge let down for most GTA fans. I think the only real "new" feature in GTA will be taking over stores like in GTAVCS. Hopefully I'm wrong and GTA4 will actually be good and it won't be played out. I'll be picking up both next year to make my decision though.

I too still think GTA4 might be given a run by SR2. Simple fact, the online co-op mode (which isnt the only reason but still one of the huge reasons). I still dont know too much about GTA4, but the story just seems...well lemme put it this way, I much enjoyed the more everyday street gangsta feel of SR over the huge crime lord, mob style thing going on in GTA.

Anyways, the online co-op mode is going to be intense...you can pick up right in the middle of a buddy's game, or just go around the city and have fun and just do what ever you want, kinda like Crackdown, just with more freedom. The customization in Saints Row was deep. Not only could you sculpt your own dream character, you could take just about every car in the game and paint it, put custom parts on it, make it your own, then fill up a garage with your custom rides, having access to them whenever you wanted.

One thing I want in SR2 is the ability to dive underwater and swim under water like in San Andreas. Thats one thing GTA had over SR. Another thing was the ability to steal trains in SA. That was neato. I wish that for SR2 as well, but that may not happen. Though GTA has been out far longer than SR, SR2 will most likely give GTA4 a good run.

from a marketing standpoint SR2 has absolutely no chance. saint's row hardly acquired any "free" press with controversy while gtaIV will surely get a huge push by the likes of jack thompson and stupid middle eastern morons who think the main character is portrayed as a terrorist. no chance at all

Maybe, but its still too early to tell. They might really start pushing the marketing up to contest with GTA. Hell, SR2 and GTA4 could get pinned to the same corkboard by the media for controversy towards their release dates (not that GTA hasnt already been tagged).

Edit: and Im not saying SR2 will be better than GTA4 to the majority fanbase, but Im saying since GTA and SR are really the only huge sandbox (there was Crackdown, but comparitively SR was better than Crackdown) games for the next gen consoles, SR most likely be the intimidating guard dog tugging on the pantleg of GTA.

Didn't even know a SR2 had been announced in production (although i guess it's not a surprise)

I preferred pretty much everything in Saints Row to the GTA games previous (who knows with gta4 though).. BUT the one thing it couldn't match up in, was the general atmophere and style. The city just felt way too generic and blah no matter where you were. Also the shock comedy was kinda fail.

Everything else though...

DShiz1029
09-28-2007, 07:01 AM
^ I wont argue against that. The city did feel very small and kinda sectioned off too sharply, however SR2's Stilwater is being expanded in size and revamped. However, cant say much at the shock comedy factor...lol.

Well that's pretty true, I'd have to agree with you there. I guess you'd have to think of it like this, if you say which is better. Gears or Halo? Everyone will scream at the top of their lungs Halo even though Gears is ****ing bad ass. Also GTA has been around a lot longer than SR so I'd imagine it would get a lot more hype. With all the people running around thinking SR is just a knock off they won't buy it. Not a whole lot of people have open minds about video games, they just go with what's "popular" if they think something is a knockoff then they won't play it. Take me for example, I even tried out a game called "Pro Cycling 2007" for the psp... I didn't really like it though =\ Was kind of boring.

Anyways, I really do encourage everyone to try out SR2 when it comes out. It really does feel a lot more into the story than GTA. That doesn't mean GTA4 will suck though, More than likely it'll be the same thing you've played before just different vehicles/weapons/map. But Sains is truly unique in it's own way, I mean come on man. Multiplayer online? Way better than the offline multiplayer on San Andreas (even though that was pretty fun). Plus it had few things some of the GTAs don't have.

Revive............

I just got the EGM magazine that featured Saint's Row 2. With the expansion of the city comes a new land features they are adding. The original Saint's Row (section of the city) was delapidated and run down. SR2 has it built up into a better looking section of town. The church as been rerenovated to and preserved as a city landmark. The main water way that splits the two halves of the city is going to be bustling with a large marina, docks, and waterside restaurants. Theres going to be an Alcatraz-like island prison just outside of the city. Not only all of what was mentioned, but now they are adding an underground cavern system that is going to somewhat house gangs.

Online Multiplayer: We get a Crackdown style co-op mode where you can drop into a friends game at any time and do missions with them or just whatever...

Original Saint's Row online matches are um...no more...instead...we get...(drum roll). Full city wide gang battles...basically you get a gang together, another team gets together...and the city is at your disposal. Im sorry but you cant get anymore badass than that.

EDIT: Oh I also forgot theres going to be a water-stunt park for boats and such.

DShiz1029

Ok here is what they say...

Saints Row 2's most interesting feature is also is most mysterious: a competitive online mode vastly different from any of the original's multiplayer versus games. "All of the elements of single-player are going to be a part of this online game," says Producer Greg Donovan. "There will be missions. There will be activities. There will be diversions. We're not talking about deathmatch." What they are talking about, it seems, is a mission-based, online gang war. And, according to Donovan, it will take place in a designed-for-multiplayer version of Stilwater. Sounds like a fun place to visit, but you wouldn't want to die there. -EGM

Gah, I've been playing Saints Row offline and online the last couple of days. I'm at 81% completion right now, going for 100%. I ****ing can't wait till SR2 man, I really hope it's going to have the same style as before though with customization. It'd be sweet as hell to trick out your own rides and when a friend drops in you can show off your rides to each other. Or in big gang wars have "gang" vehicles. That'd own so much ass.

Yes, yes it would. I dont think I will bother with GTA. Saint's Row 2 appeals to me more simply with customization alone...

Saint's 2 is going to have air vehicles too (helis and planes). That would be cool to customize your own jet, but I know that wont happen. The cover of the magazine shows we get katana's now (love it!) and we get to dual wield weapons.

Dual wield weapons will definitely kick major ass. Is there any word of just 2 people on the "free-roamish" online thing? Or can more than 2 roam the city? Me and my friend have been playing online a bit, sometimes we get lucky and don't have to deal with the immature 12 year olds (That's only late at night around 12 when all their punk asses are in bed.)

Lol. Nothing yet other than the super online gang mode and the online co-op. Towards my end days of SR online I versed a bunch of Brittish people (nothing against them, they are rather good, just saying they were prevalent in Saint's Row). SmokaCola

Well it's more of what you CANT customized.

Police Vehicles
Delivery Trucks
Ambulances
Things like that...

Taxi is fully customizable though, the limos aren't which is kind of a drag.

Any car that is customizable though you can add just about anything you want and EVERY car that lets you customize it has the "NOS" and "Hydro" options. You can create your character to be any race you'd like him to be. And you can go into clothing/jewerly stores to buy new things to add to your character.

You character (VERY DEEPLY! I made a scary-to-detail me). You can take just about every car in the game and paint it, put body kits and other stuff like rims and and other various body parts, you can even choose the color of the interior. They have a plethora of clothing you can purchase any where from street thug to high class roller.

SR2* will have that and then some.

Is there any word on being able to mod police cars and such or being able to store semi trucks? One of my favorite cars in GTASA was the monster truck =\ i hope they add that in some way, like bring back the demolition dome but instead of just cars you can do a monster truck run and such. That'd kick ass.

And Eman you gotta be kidding me man lol, even GTASA didn't have as much customization as SR. GTASA was a great game no doubt, it had a bigger map, more vehicles, everything. GTASA was loaded. As far as the customization though, doesn't really even come close to SR customization. If GTA4 is like the previous GTAs you'll be able to take over stores, buy new clothes, trick out just a few rides and some not even fully trick out, do a bunch of activities/missions, and have a **** load of vehicles to transport around a big ass map. That's about it though.

Sure it sounds like a lot, but the only 1 player thing pretty much blows especially since the PSP versions had multiplayer (so did GTASA and the GTAs on the PC) I mean hell they could of atleast done system link. IF it is only one player and no multiplayer then it really won't compare to saints, It'll sell more definitely. The only reason it'll out sell saints and a lot more people will play it because it is well known. So yeah, you're kind of right. GTA4 will "own" saints because of the sells. As far as which will be better, we'll have to wait and see about that one.

You already had your wish granted. The article specifically stated that they've added monster trucks. :)

Theres also going to be new actions. First off you can shoot people in the groin and they react accordingly. Second theres car surfing now. For instance...SR1 you just sort of stood there ontop of a car...well this one has you acting like you are surfing on the car.

Lol...planes, cars, motorbikes, monster trucks, boats...wtf else could you want? For wall we know they could throw skate boards and bicycles in the mix. Lol. I just simply cannot wait. I love the fact that the city has been expanded in size. The first city offered plenty to do for its size, but now a bigger Stilwater???

What more could I want? Hmm... a rocket so I can go into space and have "gangsta" star wars ****. Bring me back a few gangsta wookies and blast the hell out of stilwater with plasma guns. Now that'd be sweet.

On a serious note, more drugs with different screen effects and such would be wicked ****. Weed would make everything hazy and Acid would make you have a rainbow effect and start seeing **** that isn't there. And since the "back" button doesn't have anything assigned to it make it so when you are in a car you can buckle your seat belt so you don't go flying out the damn car at certain points. But if it's unbuckled your ass will be sent flying just like in SR1 :D

Most definitely, Just thought it'd be kind of a cool feature. I thought of it when Jules tells you to buckle up in one of the missions for West Side Rollerz when you go flying out the window :p I'd probably leave mine unbuckled just for the hell of it.

haha car surfing.. it sounds pretty lame on paper, but I can imagine it actually being pretty hilarious with coop. Some bicycles would be good for living the "gangsta" image of peddling around the hood.

I just hope there's a bit more "style" put into the city this time around... and that coop kills it

It would be hilarity at its best "IF" they did ad skate boards (which they probably will not) and you just start doing skate-bys.

Like you said "IF" they do add skateboards it would be pretty sweet because they could just use Skate's controls and it would work out perfect, you'd be able to do tricks and such and you'd still be able to use your weapons.

Ok heres some new updates:

Apparently the story takes place 15 years after the first one...thats a big jump.

You can use other characters (pedestrians, enemies) as human shields from gun fire.

When you get a ball shot on a pedestrian, passersby in cars will slow down to stare.

You can attach limpet mines to cars, walls, and even people.

Oh man, I like to mess with my friends online when they aren't looking ( like in battlefield I'll plant an EXP Pack when they're sniping and not paying attention then make it explode after I get to a safe distance and laugh my ass off.) So I'll be damn sure to make use of those limpet mines if they work online ^_^ It's a good laugh for all though because it's so unexpected.

Hopefully they add on to the cars and don't just make a new car list, that'd be nice. One of my biggest problem with the GTA games is the same cars over and over. In saints I saw the same car more than twice but it NEVER looked like that car, I can remember jumping in cars because it looked cool but turns out it was the exact same car I was in. A good touch to the clothing would be for face wear for the mouth, like bandanas and such.

Honestly the car list lacks and I'll admit that because there isn't enough cars. As for the customization and never seeing the same car twice (well it looking the same) I have yet to see two Capshaws pull up beside me that are blue and have the exact same rims/body style to them. Where in GTA Games I could be at a red light and 5 red bobcats that looked exactly the same, which is annoying as hell and they should really work on that with GTA4.

besides we all know running around on foot shooting random ppl is what its all about

Yeah, but that's after tagging all the tag locations so you have infinite sprint lol Man, I wish they had to way to achieve infinite sprint online. 2 seconds of running and my fat ass character already needs to take a breather

If you can remember the demo for SR before the game came out, it had something not found in the actual game. TRUCK NUTS!!! All the offical game offered was a spiked ball hanging from the trailer hitch. The demo had those plastic testicles you could attach to the hitch. Though it was rare to see, you could find some truck driving around with a pair of truck nuts.

Edit: And ah the memories of the "easteregg" suicides...

One of the two bridges had a person that would scream something suicidal and jump off the bridge, and across from the Rollerz mansion there would be someone standing on the edge of the cliff who would do the same and nail the ground with a loud thud.

Wtf? Never seen those... is there a way to see this on the full version? I never got my hand on the demo (thank god because every person who has played the demo hates Saints Row, Mainly because they can't grasp that it's a demo and not the real thing.) And I hope they add the truck nuts back, that'd be wicked as hell

Ok so...I was lookin at the cover of EGM with the Saint's Row 2 feature. Theres a chick on the cover holding a katana. This lead me to assume katanas are a new melee weapon. Which then lead me to this...if you can slice at someone with a katana...there should be body parts falling off. They lack realistic gore, both SR and GTA. If you cap someone with a Desert Eagle 50 cal. their head should pop like a balloon. If you slice someone in the torso with a katana, they need to split in half, and not just fall to the ground.

Edit: I know GTA3 had that one gore cheat, but that was stupid that you had to cheat for it.

I suppose, but the fact that if you shoot someone in the middle of the street in their nutsack, people will stop to stare, and drivers will slow down to look and possibly hit someone who is crossing the street. Its amazing how it all works really. But, yes, I too am for gore in games like this. If you hit someone with a bat, I wanna hear some bones break.

Lets just hope it's what they promised, the biggest problem with SR1 was the horrible graphic glitches, online lag (sometimes), and the pedestrians. That was the worse, they just didn't really act like "real" people even though I know it's a game, it could a bit more realistic on the characters. SR2 sounds like it'll be ****ing amazing though.

You know it. Even if the pedestrians dont act that much more realistic, I dont care all that much, they are still fun to pick on.

Also, ponder this, dual-wield weapons. They have my favorite sub machine gun in there and I saw one of the characters dual wielding it (HK MP5-k). Its gonna be sick. This game will deliver.

As for the online lag, that was a big problem. You would be running then you would just fall over dead where someone else shot you like a minute ago. Though it had lag, online was still fun. I remember my glorious day of getting the sniper achievement for capping like 100 head shots with the sniper rifle or something like that. During a Blinged-Out Ride game I performed my greatest kill ever. The opposing team had their car full pimped out and they were right infront of the show pad in the car garage. I was on a roof top across the street and I took out the effing driver head shot kill with the sniper and the car rolled to a stop right before it hit the countdown spot. We pulled off a nasty victory because of that one shot.

Heres some more news...

Aparently buildings are entirely destructable...especially by flying planes into them...

I can tell Jack Thompson is going to be buzzing around this game for a while...

Also things can be ripped away from the environment and used as weapons.

Don't give bad information. The articles says:

What's new though is the introduction of aircraft such as planes and helicopters, which excitingly you can smash right through buildings. You can't destroy buildings entirely (we don't think the US censors would be happy with that), but smashing through windows should open up plenty of gameplay opportunities.
