A question for the vocalists...
So, to keep this short, I am currently on hard mode in the vocal career. From what I've played, I've noticed that it is a lot harder to consistently five star songs on vocals then it is on the instruments. Of course, it's probably because I can't seem to keep a streak.
I average around 3 1/2 to 4 stars each song. I can do well on the songs I know, and especially the songs I like, with the exception of Creep, My Iron Lung, and In Bloom.
Speaking of that, I do much better on the higher tier songs then the lower. It's odd, but I can't seem to match Kurt Cobain, but I can match Brad Delp? Something is wrong there. As for talky parts, I've found that rubbing the mic on my shirt works well. I tried it out randomly in Ride the Lightning the other night.
I think a possible reason for this is that, due to having other people in the house, I am not singing loud. In fact, I can hear the game better then I can hear myself (I prefer it that way, actually). Is this a problem? I mean, I've made it this far without having to sing loud, but I don't know.
What is the right sensitivity to use? I have it slightly above the middle. Also, I've heard that certain logictech mics perform better. Should I try to get one, or stick with the one that came with rock band?
I've also tried vocals/guitar. I find that I actually do pretty well... though I do vocals on medium when I attempt this. Though I usually do the songs I know flawlessly.
Sorry for getting on the long tangent...

It's not worth replacing the original RB microphone with another. I have 3 different USB mic's and the original seems to work the best.
Your mic sensitivity is set where I keep mine for most songs so I don't see a problem with that.
Congrats on the Boston songs. Those kick my rear and I'm a soprano.
Since this is a game and not like singing in the real world there's a couple of things you should keep in mind while playing:
1. Overdrive paths are important. You can do very well on a song but because of a poorly chosen overdrive path you won't achieve the score necessary for more stars. When all else fails try to save up your OD until it's 3/4 full and set it off just prior to hitting the 4th OD phrase (earn while you burn). Watch out for cowbell and tambourine. You don't want to waste your OD on those if you can avoid it.
2. Expert vocals are robotic. The game does not like inflection, vibratto or really anything other than flat notes. That being said, I can guarantee that the majority of top vocalists on both platforms have pretty much hummed their way through. This doesn't work for all songs.
3. Talky parts are a crap shoot: The game is very picky on how the talky parts are handled. When you can use a plastic bag instead of rapping to Sabotage, something is definitely broken.
4. Practice, practice, practice. If there's a section of a song that's giving you particular trouble use your guitar to go into practice mode and find that section. You can't choose vocal practice because it only lets you choose the entire song. Once in guitar practice mode keep going over that section until you feel you've got it down. I had to do this over and over for the ending of Foreplay/Longtime.
I hope this has been at least some help to you and I wish you well on your vocal career!
