View Full Version : The New Price is Great, but what about 360 Wireless Guitars?

First off, let me say I'm ecstatic about the final price. 169.99 is that much easier on my wallet and peace of mind. However, I really want to rock out on that wireless Strat. So what's the deal?
http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/09/28/rock-band-ps3xbox360-price-set-ps2-release-moved-up-to-2007/
this says it will be available at a later date. How much later are we talking here? And how much will it be? I guess this dashes my plans of buying it all separately at launch.

Wireless is overrated and I could care less, wired is fine with me. No batteries to worry about.

I hate replacing my 360 controller's batteries, so I bout a wired controller and use that now. That's how much I like Wireless. I have a wireless Keyboard and mouse, the mouse's batteries died, and I went back to the USB mouse I had before it. Still use the wireless keyboard, but it sucks badly and i lost my regular one.

@ thegame: agreed. the only wireless i actually cared about was the control. even the wireless mics are useless outside of 10 feet while my old wired mic worked anywhere the controller still did.

Just buy everything seperately instead of the bundle and get wireless controllers.

i was almost going to post this as a new thread ("wireless guitar talk"), luckily i refreshed before posting:
so now that we know that the ps3 peripherals will work on the ps2, do you guys think that is a reason why they went with the RF design for the wireless strat, and not bluetooth?
i hate to beat a dead horse, but im still disappointed that i wont be able to plug in and detach the strat on my own will. oh well.
also with the new low price, are 360 owners still upset that it will come with a wired guitar?

Just buy everything seperately instead of the bundle and get wireless controllers.
Unfortunately, if the prices on the separate parts stay consistent with what's posted online, you're talking about the parts costing $80 more than the bundle (for wireless vs wired). That's a whole free guitar.
* $59.99 Rock Band game
* $79.99 Fender wireless guitar controller
* $79.99 Drum set
* $29.99 Microphone
Wireless parts self-made "bundle":
$250
Official wired bundle:
$170
Might as well buy the bundle and a wireless guitar, and force your friends to use the wired one.

that's what I think I'll be doing...It's what I did with GHII, come to think of it. I'm gonna have way too many plastic instruments around here...

I totally agree. I hear this a lot:
"I understand why there are wired drums, but I love to move around when I play Guitar Hero!"
Seriously, no you dont. All ANYONE does when they play is sit or stand in one spot, with a completely blank stare, watching the notes go by. And if they disagree, look at ANY of the Rock Band tour videos. The only person who ever has any liveliness is the singer, because they already know the lyrics.

Meh, it depends on the song for me.
When I'm playing stuff like Carry On Wayward Son, Ziggy Stardust, or More Than A Feeling, there's a lot of hop in my step. (Edit: Even when I'm trying to FC on Expert, especially when I'm just screwing around on Hard.)
When I'm mashing buttons trying to not fail on Psychobilly Freakout, Play With Me, or Cowboys From Hell, there's a lot of standing in one place and not blinking. :p

yeah i like to move aroudn too but come on its not like the wired version is absolutely short. and unless we're talking about a huge environment where there is a GH tourney going on you really shouldn't need more than the 6 feet or however long the wire is to walk around

I like to move around when I'm playing. With drums that's impossible, but don't tell me how I play; you don't know me. And do you think maybe people are self conscious about it on a stage in front of hundreds of people, or when they know they're being recorded for who knows how many internet freaks?

Yeah, but you always usually stay in one place, there's no running around the room or wherever that the cord couldn't reach.

It's not about the cord not reaching, it's about tangling the cord and whipping it around when I do Star Power or whatever. I even try to do spins and stuff, even though I suck. It adds to the fun of the game.

In the end, it doesn't matter if you're okay with wired vs. wireless. Fact is, people out there want wireless, and you don't. It is what it is. It's not worth trying to convince people otherwise, it's their choice.
However, to the other side of the fence, it's getting really old hearing you whine about it on HMX forums. Microsoft made the decision to lock down their wireless tech and charge more for it. Head over to Microsoft.com if you really want to raise a stink about no wireless in the bundle.
As for the original question on this thread, it's a good one. It's sounding like XBox wireless guitars will not be available on release day, and that is a little weird. Unfortunately, there is no official answer yet, and we'll just have to continue waiting until HMX gives a release date on them. Who knows, maybe they will be there Nov. 23rd, but that article sure didn't make it sound that way...

Okay, was I directing towards you personally? No. Chill out, bro. And besides, there aren't "hundreds" of people there, maybe like, 10. There's just a camera, and like, the 4 people who don't want to play, everyone else is either practicing, or watching people practice so they can see the screen.

For one thing, the stages that the tour videos are recorded on don't look like they allow for much moving around.
For a second thing, just because people may not have moved around much before, doesn't mean now that they CAN, that they won't.
If a person is playing GH or GHII by themselves, there is no reason to go crazy. But RB is built around the whole idea of playing with a group, and I can see that lending itself to the idea of jumping around and having more fun while playing. Not to mention that all of these songs are guitar-oriented, so there will be points where the guitarist has nothing to do, and what if he wants to run around, and jump around on a couch? Well now he can.

Another option is to wait and see if the Guitar hero 3 guitar will be compatible with Rock Band, would be a nice touch :D

Of course I agree with you, if you're in a group and you want to show off, you'll go all out. but in retrospect, you're not going to be able to move too much. You have to constantly be looking at the notes, and the second I get the least bit distracted, I lose any combo that I might have had. That's just me. I don't see why everyone is getting so pissed at me, I was just stating my opinion.

I've got the 360 GH3 guitar on preorder too. The great part is, if it's compatible, the bassist is going to be stuck with it. There's just something weird about the image of the Bassist thrashing around showing off his wireless-ness.
And Akaymay, just wanted to point out my reply to you wasn't mad at all. I just don't think it's worth convincing the wireless folk to give up on their dreams. If they think wireless is the only way, super duper. Though I think they need to vent their frustration somewhere else...

Haha. I understand what you mean. There are times playing GH that someone will be talking to me, and I try my best to talk back, but its hard to speak full sentences. I can only shout out a word or two at a time, and try to throw together a broken sentence over time.
The wires thing is weird though. I didn't think wireless controllers in general mattered, but now I can't imagine going back to having a wire. Its so nice to just move around, and not be tethered to the wire. I kind of imagine the wireless guitar being the same way. Add to that, having other people in the room, and its nice that its one less wire to get tangled up.

I just hope HMX release a wired PS3 Version for those like me that prefer that way.. at the moment there is no choice for us where as 360 owners do have a choice which method they want to go..

Meh I'm fine with having a wired guitar. Just brings more to the "Guitar Feeling". I do a bit of moving around myself when playing with friends in co-op or versus in GHII but I never try to spin the guitar around my neck or do back flips off the wall. Just the occasional jump/kick/angus/lay on the back/play behind the neck/etc... Type thing. The wired version is more than enough for all those moves named above. Having a wireless would allow me to rock out whilst going to my bathroom with a portable monitor, take a leak whilst jamming and then come back.
Althought I don't think i'll ever need to do that lol
