just make a major annoucement when there is something that warrants an annoucement to be made. if they set a time for when thier going to announce something, than they just created a deadline for themselves that they have to meet on top of the deadlines they allready have to get it out the door.

It's funny you posted that...I was gonna say why not make a countdown front page that counts down to nothing like Nintendo did with the Wii Smash Bros. page! Make NO announcements whatsoever and when you get to the date the page is just at zero with nada!

Nothing makes the time go by like being constantly reminded that you are waiting for a specific date.

It will not make it come by any faster, and in fact would be worse because it would force them to a date, thereby making it possible that they would have to reveal unfinished works.

Give them time, that is what is best.

That's an awful comparison. It would be like publicly approving a date to do something in Cuba. That's about as far as you could go with such a comparison.

But the other points about not giving them any more deadlines or pressure are reasonable.

Even so, countdowns are not completely counter-productive. Just look at all the hype generated from the GTAIV trailer countdown. They may not be the desired option here, but don't claim that they're completely counter-productive. They're definitely a reasonable option in some scenarios.

yah but also. the GTAIV countdown was not for an annoucement, it was for Media. like i said before, it was planned, coordinated, and part of a much larger marketing scheme to ensure that it was the only game that anyone was gonna pay attention to for a while.
