Well, depending on the quality of the song charts, I can really see myself at least checking out the game. Competition doesn't really hurt us. In fact this will only motivate HMX to step up their game.

I seriously doubt they will even attempt to do that. The rock band strat didn't work with GHIII and not to mention the whole stopping the patch from being released. The only hope I have is that MS will force the game to be compatible with the RB instruments on the xbox360. I really don't know what will happen with the PS3 version.

There is a pic of the GH drums in the magazine and its clear they are doing things a bit differently. They have 3 main drums, 2 cymbols, and the foot pedal. That's one more method of input than the RB drums, meaning RB drums will definitely not work in GHIV.
On a side note, they look really well designed. Say what you will, but RO makes really good hardware :/

the eagles, sublime, van halen...why cant we get any of this...SUBLIME!! There has been a HUGE number of requests for sublime. It just makes me mad becuase it IS POSSIBLE to get these artists, they just choose not to. Theres no way im spending another 180 bucks for this game but if the guitars and vocals work(being that the previous poster mentioned the drum problem), ill probably pick this up.

Dude a quick question please. In regards to the 2 cymbals, I'm hoping one is a hihat, anyway are they repositional. Meaning can I set up these drums like a normal drum set with the hihat on the left of the snare drum so you can cross over you arms and play it normal? Can you tell by the picture? I would really like to know this question. Maybe I'll just go and buy the mag. But let me know if you can tell. Thank you.:)
To me this is sounding pretty promising and looks like I will be all over this. So far it sounds like good music, good periphrials and hopefully good game play. Not to mention Activision or whomever seems to know what the gamer wants music wise. Sounds like they are attacking this with everything they have which is killer! I'm personally way stoked.
Also, I don't give a rats ass if the RB stuff is compatable or not, With the money I've had to spend to get my drums up to par, it would be nice to have a good drum controller. Plus cymbals...HELL YEAH! I know for a fact that they will include DLC as well. That's where the residual income comes into play. If it has a superior drum controller then my decision is allready made.
I did read a few weeks back that they (some Activision CEO dude or whoever) mentioned that their drum controller was going to be SUPERIOR to that of RB. From the sounds of it, I think he wasn't exagerating. But only time will tell.
EDIT: Who is RO? I'm not to keen on all the gaming companies. Thanks!

I sincerely hope that the Eagles and Van Halen didn't sign exclusivitiy agreements. They are both truly wanted and needed in RB.
There's no way that I'm going to purchase this. I have invested way too much money into RB to jump ship. I also don't want my guest room filled up with game peripherals!
There's no way that RO/Activision is going to make anything crosscompatible, especially with them blocking the PS3 guitar patch (which would have sold more of their own guitars - idiots).
What does concern me is that MS paid to push back the EU PS3 release of RB. Now, it is possible that GHIV could take away that market. Bad business move HMX.

Dude, I'm not upset. In fact quite the opposite. I ready to play this new game NOW. I already have RB and everything it has to offer.
Getting a new game is like starting the whole thing all over again, but perhaps even be more fun. Hard to say at this point. And as far as Linkin Park, no I'm not a huge fan or anything, but at least I've heard of them and even know their music somewhat. Hell, just look at the songs of theirs on You Tube, the average "view #" was in the 5-10 million catagory. That says something about their popularity. Not to mention it shows that Activision seeks out the popular stuff it appears.
So regardless if it's a band you like, It shows promise that they aren't affraid to go in for the big names. And honestly if HMX doesn't end up having access to some of these bands because of this, who's fault is that really? Pretty common sence to me. The writting is on the wall from my point of view on this GH4 game. They are far from stupid that's for sure, plus they actually seem to be listening to what gamers are wanting in a music game such as this. Unfortuneatly it's easier to copy a game the invent the thing. This goes with pretty much everything in the world of competition. And it a wonderful thing. For the gamers anyway in this case.:)
So yeah, I'm way stoked for this game to come out. After all, it just might end up being the better game overall. Hard to say in this early stage. But I'm liking what I'm hearing regarless.:)

Clearly it's too too early to say which game you will prefer over the other; GH IV isn't even out yet, so how can anybody say that anyways?
My loyalty is to my money and a product that is well made. So if GH IV rectifies everything I did not like about GH III and makes RB look and feel obsolete, I'll move to GH IV. Otherwise I stick with RB.
However, it's all about the money isn't it? I really don't want to shell out more than $100 for the game and peripherals. Granted, in this aspect, it makes my idea of keeping the GH III Les Paul that much more intelligent as I assume that will work with GH IV.
Hey if that works, then I might just stick with GH IV for vocals, guitar and bass and keep RB for the band experience. Heck, that's the key thing here:
The whole "rock band experience."
RB has pulled that off very well. Can GH IV match and even top that? It remains to be seen.

Also of note is that the article says you can activate Overdrive at any time by hitting both cymbals at the same time. My biggest complaint about drums (and vocals) in Rock Band is you can't use OD at any time like Guitar and Bass. I'm not a GH fanboy (I didn't even buy GH3 because Harmonix wasn't involved), but even I have to admit that sounds more appealing than the way Rock Band handles drums OD.

Honestly, they need to release Rock Band 2 up against this. I was dead set against this game having a sequel, but I'm afraid its going to be necessary. The game needs more than just new songs to keep it fresh IMO. This holiday season a lot of people will be excited about the 'newness' of GH4, while Rock Band will just be old news by then. They need a major retail release to keep people from switching over to GH4. New features (Online BWT, possibly their own create a song type mode), a fresh coat of paint (new venues/outfits, more robust character creation), and a new soundtrack (all DLC from Rock Band 1 should carry over and they need some major heavy hitters on the disc). All the current instruments should still work, but maybe consider releasing premium instruments with a cooler look and added durability (mostly for new players but also for hardcores who want to upgrade).

I'll have to agree with you 100% on this. My feelings are the exact same as yours in regards to this. So here's to keeping my fingers crossed that this game takes it to a higher level. Afterall, this is how the video game market works I do believe. Otherwise we would be stuck with the original Doom games for FPS. The more time that goes by, the better the games usually tend to get. A sequel may not be necessary, but a massive expansion might be.

I agree, a massive expansion could be what HMX needs. It just feels to soon to have an actual sequel. Plus HMX did want Rock Band to be a platform. By going the expansion route they are able to give us a sequel and still allow us to keep our ealier investment.

Which is exactly what I hope they have in mind. Honestly, if they allow for track creation, tinker with some the character creation abilities, and get a bit more proactive on the DLC, then RB can compete just fine.

You have a point, but it you don't need the original game than its hardly and expansion. I guess we can hope that anyone that wanted rock band would have bought it by then. I definitely agree with you that I will just have to wait and see what the setlist has before I judge. That said, I mainly didn't like GH3's setlist due to all the metal/metalesque music in it. If GH4 tones it down a bit, I might just get it.
Hopefully they release stand alone instrument packs like Harmonix has started doing, then I might buy the drums +games, and use my Guitar Hero 2 guitar and USB mic from Rock Band. I don't really feel like dishing out another 200$ on a new rhythm game so soon.

the bottom line is if u want it all U got to buy it all ,
it like the ps3/360 arguments , bottom line is if u want to play god of war 3

GH will do their thing it will prob be awesome , i'l prob buy it ..then RB will answer back and beat out GH perhaps RB will figure a way to record vocals into the custom song making feature that GH4 wont have ..meanwhile have to spend a fortune in between but thats life u have pay to play , toy's get more expensive as u get older
the bottom line is if u want it all U got to buy it all ,
it like the ps3/360 arguments , bottom line is if u want to play god of war 3
and gears of war 2 - gotta have both systems
I'm just glad I'm not a pc gaming natzi who need a $9,000.00 liquid cooled rig to play games at 9000x12000 resolution with 400 fps - an exaggeration but u know what i mean
Very true on your entire statement. Although I'm not a PC gamer too much, I do love to custom build those $9000 dollar PC's.;) I think it's because I race cars and have been building engines and cars for 1/4 mile racing for about 25 years since I was 14 or so. So if you have racing in your blood, you tend to want to build everything for speed. Having an addictive personality doesn't help either. LOL
Hmmm, I wonder if this is why I like thrash and speed metal so much as well?...Faster, Faster faster faster faster...BOOM, too fast! :D
Sorry, I'm a dork.:p
