so, i was thinking, with the rumor that RB2 being released a lot sooner than most expected, could this possibly mean that HMX might saving the "big name bands" such as U2, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, etc. for the next disc rather than DLC, which could be attributed to the bands that were seeing now for DLC. Im not saying there is anything wrong with the DLC, but there is a lack of "wow" since the Boston pack. What are your thoughts??

You lost me right there.
Lynyrd Skynrd
The Police
Blondie
Smashing Pumpkins
Motley Crue
and an entire Judas Priest album.
Sorry...this qualifies as "wow".

Personally I believe a version of this theory, where RB is saving the big stuff for when GH releases.

Also what rumor about RB2 are you talking about. People got that confused with the expansion disks for PS2 and Wii. Unless there is another rumor that I'm missing?

Lynyrd Skynyrd- already had dlc with "gimme three steps"
Blondie- not that big of a deal
the police- have a ton of songs in the game, not a surprise.
smashing pumpkins- already in the game with cherub rock
motley crue- a single, albeit good song being released through rock band. forgot about that one.
judas priest- wasnt expected, but the fact that who's next was not the first album released was a little bit of a downer. still an ok choice.
And by the rumor of RB2, it was a leak from EGM, ill try to get a link.

The link in the thread was broken, but that looks to be the same rumor. It has already been confirmed that it was for the expansion disk for the PS2/Wii.
I really doubt that we will see a RB2 anytime soon. Specially since HMX wants Rock Band to be a platform. If they are holding the "big name bands" DLC, I don't think its because they are holding it for the sequel.

it might be sooner than you think, with guitar hero iv trying to be rock band, with all the same instruments, (different drums with cymbal pads, i might add) and van halen supposedly confirmed for the game. (this info is from the next issue of game informer, so hold your breath.)

Yea your right, if GHIV does pressure HMX enough, they might just have to release a sequel. I'm hoping they will decide to go the expansion route. That way they still release new content, songs, and features (i.e. new game). Hopefully with a good expansion it would be enough to compete with GHIV.

Rock Band 2 isn't coming out.. .forget about it already. Accept what you've already been told 1000 times as fact.

They wouldn't hold big names for a sequel, it just doesn't make money sense for them to do that ie. 2 dollars per song/5.50 per 3 songs or 58 songs for 60 bucks. They lose 56 dollars per game disc doing it that way. I don't know I guess it's possible, but it seems they've been going the money route as late ie Europe. Anything's possible though.

I just hope the peripherals are compatible. If they are, I will be buying GHIV

That's assuming that for each game disc sold, the same number of people would have bought every single song as DLC. That simply isn't true.
There are a lot of people who don't have a network connected to their console, and a lot of people who don't even know that DLC exists. Of those people who do know, they don't all believe it's worth buying the DLC every time. On the game disc itself, for the 58 songs, they'd probably skip the entire bonus tour (except for maybe Flyleaf - that song rocks). A bunch of people would skip the easy songs, the songs they don't like. The people who buy all the DLC are in the strictest of minorities (at most 20k people).
The reason to release the sequel isn't due to pressure from Guitar Hero 4, but rather due to building name recognition, and simply having a new product available on the shelf come Christmas time. New products get advertising + consumer buzz, and when people are talking about something that's when it sells best.

knowing Activision they are gonna totally ruin guitar hero 4 and HMX will just sit back and laugh at how much of a failure it will be

I think it was be really interesting if any future release (which they said they would allow DLC for RB to be compadible with RB2) came with no songs, and the game purchase came with credit to buy 50 songs. I know not everyone has a network connection, and it's not really feasible, but it's an interesting idea.

Check out this thread (specifically JohnLok's post).

Now call this a typo, call it whatever you want. I'd say it points to them working on RB2. Why else would you refer to Rock Band as RB1?
Secondly, why would you think they wouldn't be working on it? Even if it is just an 'expansion' type disc for a 'platform game' such as Rock Band, I'm pretty sure internally you'd refer to it as 'Rock Band 2'. Not to mention to those who aren't up on alot of technical terms such as 'platform game' would likely just refer to it as 'Rock Band 2' instead of coming up with some alternate name for it.
Thirdly, EA is involved. What EA 'platform' game have you seen come out that hasn't had a sequel or 'new version' in a year?
Fourthly, of course it is in the works. What do you think all of those game developers (you know, the engine/coding gurus) over at Harmonix are doing now that Rock Band is out? Making DLC? Can you honestly believe they (Harmonix) are paying developers (game coders, engine builders, graphics designers, etc...) to chart songs? Of course it is in the works. Didn't Harmonix just do a big hiring spree too? I'm sure I've seen several posts on them needing an additional 70 employees.
Of course it's being developed. Even outside sources like some musicians (Sublime, Testament, Def Leppard, Joe Satriani) are saying to watch for their music in the 'next installment' or 'upcoming version' of Rock Band. And I am looking forward to it. Bare minimum it will have a disc full of new tracks to play and at most likely an MSRP of $59.99, thats about a dollar a song (assuming we'd get 58ish tracks again) and THAT is good value.

The sometime in the near future announcement about The Who should clear this up. Though it will probably only confuse people further. My gut has been telling me that the weekly 3 song DLC is just one of many different ways of delivering content that HMX is thinking about.
Best guess? A disc with new songs, some existing DLC, a few clothing add-ons and at least one big name to headline the WHOle thing.

I bet Activision is doing their bestto prevent compatibility between RB and GH.

I think RB"2" should be in the form of a downloadable version and purchasable disc also. I mean, Warhawk and GT5 have been downloadable for PS3 and they have worked out fine. We could get all the new songs and additions for the new version without buying a disc. It could be 30-40 bucks for the downloadable version. Now, if you want to buy the disc, you can. It would install onto the hard drive so you could play all the songs released on both rock bands at the same time. In addition to that, the disc owners could get special videos and such that the downloadable people didn't get. Since its a disc purchase, it would be slightly more than than the PSN version. I don't know if this would work for 360 since I haven't really heard of a complete downloadable game on XBL.
