According to this video (2:51)...

It's Metallica. It's an official Metallica video though, so take it with a grain of salt I guess. I don't doubt it though, the Metallica pack is the best selling DLC so far and it can be argued that One is the most popular GH3 track...
Personally, they're the top band I'd like to see more of and my favorite band overall.
(Clarification: at 2:51 the video says that Metallica songs are the most requested songs for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I thought it was interesting and it'd be nice if someone who manages the requests could confirm/deny it)

I think that argument would ultimatly fail, Dragonforce is definetly the most popular GH3 track.
I'm sure if there was a vote, the two songs would be very close, but Dragonforce would most likely be #1 just because of it's insaneness.

Ehh...debatable. But I'd still guess 'tallica's the most requested. GnR is probably still pretty darn close tho.
At first I would have speculated one of the 'Big 3' (Zep, Beatles, AC/DC) to be the 'most requested', but I think the thing that Metallica has over all of them (including GnR), is that they are still very much relevant.
Maybe 'relevant' isn't the right word, but what I mean is that they are actively recording/touring....hell, it seems they never really quit touring.
But, what do I know...I'm just a fan-boy! :D

Where did they get these statistics?
I personaly don't like much metallica stuff. (Oh noes here comes the 'real metal fans cos we likes metallica')
I'm sure metallica have a legion of fans who also play GH and RB, but honestly, I couldn't care less if they are in the game/s or not. I can list 30 bands I'd prefer songs from before metallica.

Understandable as everyone has different tastes in music, but you're definitely in the minority. Judging from DLC sales and the recent Metallica forum poll, I would guess that only about 1 in 10 don't want more Metallica. I want more, but would be happy for a long time with either a six-pack or Master of Puppets. I also want some variety to the DLC. As long as that variety doesn't include more Blondie or Clash.

Same here, but I play drums, not guitar. I'm rather sick of Lars' spastic twitching. I'll take Trent's drum machine any day. :-)
Killing Joke anyone? You know, the band that Metallica covers and grew up listening to?

Hmmph I personaly don't care for metalica anylonger, they have become sue happy, they do it any time they start to fade from the popuarity lists.

just a little artical i dug up, it's realitively old new aug 07 but still points to teh case that metalica needs the slap to the face of not being put in a electronic format for what I'm sure will be two of the biggest selling games in 08/09 when they are relased.

So we should be denied good music because Lars made a misinformed decision which he later apologized for?
I guess we shouldn't have gotten Screaming For Vengeance then. After all, the drummer on that album is currently in prison for attempted child rape. Children play Rock Band!

It's pretty believable considering that they were the the most popular of the 4 main (thrash) metal bands of the 80s not in any GH game up to GHIII (the 4 being Metallica, Anthax, Slayer, and Megadeth + arguably Metal Church ). But since they have 5 songs available now, I doubt it.
