If you mean in the long run, which duo ended up better, d say Mustaine, Friedman, because, even though the are not together anymore, the music each makes is better than what Metallica is doing now :)

Friedman & Mustaine are more concerned with speed riffs, they don't have the soul that Metallica of 20 years ago and beyond had. The music of present day Metallica doesn't count as much. I'll reserve judgement until the new album in February.

team megadave ftw. consistently good music over a long period of time is hard to find. for a period metallica had more popular music - but at the end of the day its been a good long while since theyve produced anything noteworthy. on the other hand united abominations has got some great tracks.

well the team megadeth that he's concerned about only had 2 or 3 albums together so you can't really coutn all of megadeth's career

good call, you cant count ALL of megadeths work, but you CAN count all of metallicas (ie. post-80's averageness), so i'd still be voting team megastaine ;)

*EDIT* all this talk of megadeth im really hoping will = inclusion to rockband. (rust in peace would be nice guys!)

Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman on the strength of Rust In Peace alone. That album blows away Metallica's entire catalogue :P

Friedman's work on that album is so godly.

Megadeath destroys Metallica as far as I am concerned and Freidman is a far superior player than all 3 put together. Go see Metallica live then see Megadeath Live and you will see who the better musicians really are...

I am big fans of both bands. The guitar work on those Megadeth classics RIP and Peace Sells are awesome. With that said, Ride the Lightning, Master, and Justice are still 3 of my all time favorite albums and cannot be overlooked regardless of your thoughts on the Bob Rock era of Metallica.

So not knowing what the question really refers to and it's just picking a duo, I'd have to go with:

50.1% Jaymz and Kirk
49.9% Dave and Marty

;)

I use to like Metallica (I still like the Ride the Lightning cd)...then they had to go on their downloadable music rampage. And the movie...the world would be a better place without a bunch of over paid jerks crying about how long to practice!!! "Oh I don't think I can practice any more...my life is too stressful"....poor wittle baby...SHUT UP!!!

Megadeath takes this by leaps and bounds!!!!

Can I say Hetfield/Freidman just because I don't care for Mustaine's voice?

DUDE THAT'D BE A SICK COMBO! No disrespect to Kirk, he's awesome. But still, that would be awesome.

IMO Metallica was better, but have declined every album sense Cliff Burton died. Megadeath, before, during and after Friedman always rocks.

Really like both bands. I voted MegaDave and Marty moreso for Dave. From a guitar playing standpoint Dave can play circles around either James or Quirk. He is an incredibly under rated guitarist. James comes with some really catchy hooks and riffs but Dave does that and takes it to another level IMO.

Definiately Mustaine and Friedman, dont get me wrong - I'm a huge fan of Metallica, I just dont think James and Kirk have the skill that Mustaine and Friedman do...

I never really thought about it that way. Metallica is my all-time favorite band, but I have to agree with you on this. As for the knucklehead who said Rust in Peace is better than Metallica's entire catalog, you apparently have never listened to any of the albums prior to Metallica.

United Abominations does indeed kick major arse. Excellent album and definitely better than anything Metallica has done since Metallica.

Depends which era, 80s Metallica is the best but Metallica of the 90s and beyond is **** and Megadeth is easily better than that dross.
