Sweet, they look really cool, might be the first pictures of tattoos in game we have seen. I can't wait to test them out. From what I have read about tattoos and makeup in this game, its really lenient, you can almost do anything you want with it, which is so great.

Article can be found here (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/rock-band/xbox-360/game-features/tattoo-u/5956/66963/):
Rock's always associated with two things: fornication and illicit substances. EA's music-based game Rock Band skips those two familiar vices in favor of another one big with the music scene – tattoos.
The rhythm-and-rock game that lets four players groove along to recognizable songs using virtual guitars, a drum set and a microphone, also includes a robust "Rocker Creator" that lets wannabes create a male or female character, then customize their face, hair, skin color, physique, attitude, clothes, makeup, face paint ... and tattoos.
Harmonix Producer Jason Kendall, who says he has "no more room to get another tattoo," says he fronted the idea of putting tattoos into the game. After the rest of the development crew signed on, he called his tattoo artist friends to see if they'd contribute.
"A lot of my old friends are tattoo artists, and I've been into tattoos for, like, 20 years," he says. "So I got in touch with my friends, and I was able to ... pull in seven real shops. Some of them are really big names in the tattoo world and you can go and get tattoos at [them right now]."
Tattoos appear on your rocker in-game, letting you show off your work to scores of screaming fans.
To access the 120-some-odd tattoos from big-name tattoo studios/artists like Sailor Jerry -- the OG of tattooing -- and New York Adorned, you must customize a mock rocker in the game's Rocker Creator. Select a name, hometown, face, body type, and attitude, hit save, and on the next screen click on Ink & Scissors to tat the left arm, right arm or chest.
"Unfortunately we're only able to support chest and arms right now. I'm hoping for Rock Band II we can do full body suits. Who knows?" says Kendall.
After scrolling through and selecting from the roughly 120 tattoo designs, click modify to move, flip, rotate, scale, color and warp the tattoo. We chose Sailor Jerry's classic Skull Snake tattoo and moved it onto our female rocker named "Liberox." (Note for dudes: if you place a tat on a female rocker's chest, you get to see her in her bra! Nothing beats a cheap thrill.)
Since we were used the Rock Band drumset to move the tattoo around, it wasn't exactly the simplest process, so we recommend going old-fashioned and using a standard game pad for customization. Otherwise, the interface seems very intuitive – and its fun to play around with the tattoos until they're perfect – or your version of perfect.
The tattoo creator lets you tweak to your heart's content: rotate, stretch, skew and color your body decorations to turn yourself into a total groupie magnet.
We added a cool gypsy tattoo to Liberox's stomach and then bird tats to her left and right arms. Once one tattoo's done, others can be placed near or on top of it. After saving the original tattoo, you can stop or add another one. After adding another to her chest and some to her arms, we finally get a hang of the process.
After all that we noticed one thing missing: video game tattoos. We ask Kendall if there any video-game related tattoos made it into the mix.
"Nope," Kendall says. "We wanted to evoke the feeling that you're actually in a band. We want to immerse you in the vibe of being a band on stage, you know?"
So no Zelda tats for the fans out there?
"Nope," Kendall says again. "But you can probably make something like that. At the bottom of the screen, there are primitives and letters, and you can make anything you want."
Tattoos don't cost anything to create and don't need to be unlocked. Kendall says there may be some plans in the works to share people's tattoo creations on the Rock Band Web site, found at http://www.rockband.com, but otherwise it's all about indulging your rock 'n' roll fantasies and creating a character that will get noticed.
"You don't score points for making a cool character," Kendall says, 'but you will get cool points. You'll be [playing the game] online and people will say, "Holy ****, that's awesome."

I was going to say something about that.. it seems you can use the drumset for creating characters.. What about guitars? I'm sure it wouldn't be easy, so I'm using the normal controller for character creation.

A little talk there about game to website interaction with people showing off and sharing their tattoos on Rockband.com
I'm not sure what song those lyrics are from either, I can't find it on google...although that might not be the best way to go about it.

In the bottom it said there were tools to do it, so hopefully it means you can actually draw your own tats. That'd rock man, I would much rather be able to upload my artwork after drawing in photoshop. But using the games tools shouldn't be too hard.

I looked up the lyrics for the pics on youtube (people give lyrics in description). The first one came up with sex videos  . For the second one this is the only one that came close:

I doubt that will be in the game though.

Wonderful, I got Forza 2 Motorsport when it first came out so I could do some racing and I ended up spending the better part of the summer just painting cars. Now I'll get Rock Band because I'm dying to play the instruments and I just know I'll end up spending the better part of this winter designing tattoos! Just my luck.
At least my most recent car design is the first true Rock Band themed car in the game, and I've modelled it on the muscle car in the 'Highway Star' promotional clip.

The design is not quite finished yet, I was hoping to tidy it up and finish it tomorrow and then I'll throw a thread up in General in case anyone is interested. All I've got thus far is the Rock Band logo, the individual instrument logos and the Fender logo. I still need to do Roland, Boss, MTV Games and Harmonix logos for the car. It's currently on the Challenger Concept until I've perfected the design and then I'll port it to all the other muscle cars in the game.
If you're still interested in seeing what I've got thus far, I can throw a picture or two up, just let me know.

As cool as own custom tats might sound, it's a pain for online play, because all the tats would have to be uploaded to your bandmembers, and speaking from experience with Quake 2's custom models and textures, it can be very annoying to wait for something to load when all you want to do is rock out ASAP.

That was Quake 2 man... Even Nascar Heat (my dad liked that game a lot) loaded pretty damn fast. And that uploaded every driver's picture/car to everyone in the lobbies comp (sometimes 20+ people). I imagine it won't take that long to upload a few KB file to someone before you jam. Unless the images were like something really bizarre such as 5MB. That'd take too long to load for wanting to rock out ASAP.
Believe, i'm more than sure things have changed in the last 10 years for the pics to be uploaded with a good speed. That's only -IF- they let you do customs.

Forza 2 seems to have solved the problem pretty well. It supports more than 4 players, and the decal surface area is larger than what would need to be addressed by Rock Band's tatoo engine.

It sounds like this is a good analog. It sounds like the RB tattoo engine is similar: lay down layers of letters and primitives to make your decal. Then instead of uploading a jpg or similar image, it can load the positions of all the primitive and the other people can render those on the fly. Although, jpg and gif images aren't that big either, so I don't think it would be a problem either way.
I'd rather they don't allow uploads, since I don't want to play in a band with a guy who has a pair of giant balls on his chest...

I own no 360, so I don't exactly know how Forza 2 deals with this, but if you say they nailed it, then I shall take your word for it. Custom tats FTW, just as long no one uses pr0n as a tat.

You've kind of nailed the paradox here. Everyone wants unlimited ability to create their own tats, but they want to restrict what other people can create.
You can see here (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/photos/forza-2-custom-cars/) a small sampling of the incredible custom jobs that people did with the Forza 2 decals. Almost anything is possible.
Of course, this also means that Microsoft has to pay for folks to handle complaints and review designs, so that they can ban the inevitable pro-Nazi and pornographic cars that come through the system.
Microsoft has discouraged third-party developers from allowing this much freedom, because they don't want to be held liable for this kind of content being distributed over the XBox Live network.
But we already know that Harmonix is going to staff a significant integrated website initiative, and the Harmonix folks have indicated you will be able to do custom designs. So presumably, they have convinced Microsoft that they have people who will handle the editorial stuff.

True, but MS already pays for moderation of all of XBL. So it doesn't matter if you have porn on your Forza car or use nothing but racial slurs in a game, it all uses the same moderation system. So, in theory, reporting somebody for custom content should be about the same as for actions in voice-chat, only easier to verify (just look at their custom design). Since they already have XBL staff to do this, it shouldn't cost anyone anything extra.
Not sure if PSN has a similar system.

The last game I played that had something similar was Rainbow Six:Vegas. You could use the Xbox Camera to take a photo of yourself ("mugshot" style-front and side) and it would map it onto your character for online play. It tppk a minute or to do and once it's done it makes a save for your multiplayer character. It would be the same thing just adding a few more places to add pictures and then be able to cover those areas.
You cut the body into 8 "zones" (both arms, chest, back, lower and upper legs) and you can use anything to cover those areas. Just like mapping the Forza cars.
