I personally haven't heard enough of him, but from what I've heard he's very very great. What songs do you guys like, and what part of his career do you like the most?

well i can't really answer this question since i haven't heard everything by him, but i do have quite a bit of albums. personally i think his creative high started with space oddity and ended with alladin sane, but he obviously made some other brilliant albums like Low, Heroes, Scary Monsters, Diamond Dogs, etc.
as for favorite songs : moonage daydream, width of a circle, and space oddity have to be my top 3
favorite albums : rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars, man who sold the world, and probably alladin sane

His most creative era was during the whole Ziggy Stardust time. That's also where his best music comes in. My favorite songs would have to be China Girl, Soul Love, and Rebel Rebel. His best album is without a doubt Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

The stardust era was probably his most creative but my favorite was the heroes album.

Ziggy Stardust for sure, but I do dig some of his more recent work like "I'm afraid of Americans" and such.

I concur with battle axe. Width of A Circle and Moonage Daydream were pretty much pure genius. Check out the live versions on youtube from the Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture concert, some very epic stuff there. I'd also recommend checking out Mick Ronson (Bowie's lead guitarist for his best eras) and his solo career. Mick sings quite a bit like Bowie so as you can imagine it's pretty much David Bowie but with even better guitar (if that's possible to imagine).

my favorite bowie album is without a doubt hunky dory. but i have to disagree with all of you about ziggy stardust being his most creative period. the time he hit his creative peak was much closer to lets dance than ziggy stardust or diamond dogs. his soul phase and his albums from berlin are much more creative than his hard rock albums too. i'm not saying those albums are necesarily better, but they definitely had more thought put into them and struck out in many more new and interesting directions than ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars.

That would've been my 4th as well...followed by either hunky dory or the man who sold the world.

I've recently purchased a bunch of David Bowie albums, so I now have most of his material from the 70s. I really like the Berlin Era, as well as Station to Station and Scary Monsters. Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs I really like too. I just have to say most of the rock stuff in the 70s that he did was excellent.

Ziggy Stardust era Bowie was his BEST. That being said though, there are very few bad songs from him. His best songs have to be:
Space Oddity
Ziggy Stardust
Changes
China Girl
Suffragette City
Let's Dance
Heroes
Moonage Daydream
and...his contributions to the "Labyrinth" soundtrack:
Within You
As The World Falls Down
Underground
Magic Dance
Bowie rules anyway. He is in his early '60's and still rockin' it. :)
