View Full Version : Individual Instrument Price Announcement?

There has been a lot of talk about the bundle in the past few months with little said about the cost of individual instrument+game packages. Why no official announcment of individual intrument prices? Or for example a game+drums pack?
At Launch will the game be available as a bundle only?
The rumoured $80 per instrument makes no sense. At $80 for guitar and $60 for the game for a total of $140 the very basic set up would cost 75% MORE Guitar Hero II on next gen systems. That is an unfathomable price increase for any product, even an improved one.
The bundle price seems more within reason. In light of that, $80 per instrument + $60 for the game makes even less sense.
Why no announcement on smaller packages?

Well there hasn't been any official announcement for the individual prices but think about it if you're going to buy Game and an instrument lets say Drums wich is estimated to be 79.99 that adds up to 60+80=140 and the special bundle is 170 so what im trying to say is just buy the special bundle it will have all the instruments plus you'll save up some cash.
My Estimates
Guitar Ps3 59.99
Guitar X360 69.99
Drums 79.99
Mic 29-35.99
Game 59.99

You know... the XBOX Live Headset is only $19.99...
Maybe the mic will only be $19.99...
Just a thought.

Like I said in another post:
The information will come when HMX are ready. They are proffesionals, if they're delaying the info its so it will wet your appetite more. Now, stop debating what isn't there and lusting for every ounce on info. When you need to know, HMX will tell you.

According to the gamespot article, They confirme with HMX/EA that the info Amazon has is accurate. I don't know if just the bundle was meant, but it would seem they should have been given all the info at the same time.
PS3 Strat wireless 59.99
360 Strat wireless 79.99
PS3 & 360 Drums 79.99
PS3 & 360 mic 29.99
Stand alone games 59.99

I think that was concerning the release date of the bundle and thats it. When they said all the info with Amazon was right they still had it listed as $200.
As for the prices you have listed there, take $10 of everything (maybe just 5 off the mic)... I'm not 100% on US pricing, but it would seem more reasonable concidering the estimated bundle cost being $30 more that first thought.

Is everybody really ok with $80 for guitar + $60 for the game? $140?
That's 40% more than the already overpriced Guitar Hero III. In three years, the basic game has gone from $70 on the PS2 to $140? Double!!!
You might be able to make a few justifications for a slight increase like Next Gen development cost, wireless, increased licenses. But how can you possibly justify a price increase of double?
Hopefully, none of this will hold true and an announcement will be made soon, but for the time being this is the only information we've been given to go on. It's not an "ounce" of information as another poster suggested. The selling price is a major, if not the major decision making factor when it comes to an expensive game like this.

You can re-use your Xplorer on the 360 or your SG on the PS2, and buy the plain game disc for $60/$50.
So using your logic, in three years, the basic game has gone from $70 to $50 on the PS2. A 30% price reduction! Woo!

Why would you try and defend obviously inflated prices?
I'm as excited about this game as anyone here. I think There will eventually be an announcment about different pricing. All I'm saying is that there is currently an obvious imbalance between the bundle price and the individual instrument prices and I'm curious why they choose not to clear that up when they announced the bundle price.

I'm not. I'm poking fun at your terrible logic.

Much better stated. My guess is that they aren't even sure yet if unbundled peripherals will be available at launch. The fact that they had to push launch back to the very last day (Black Friday) tells me that they will be running tight on the Production Line.
I would love to see a smaller (drum + game) bundle offered, but right now they may not be sure whether they can do that immediately.

The you agree that the prices are inflated? There wasn't anything wrong with the logic. With currently listed prices it will cost you double for Rock Band what a Guitar Hero I setup cost on the PS2. That's perfectly sound.

That is exactly my point. That is what it is beginning to sound like, given the lack of talk of individual packages and prices over the last couple of months. It's not something I've seen talked about in these forums and wanted to get out there.
It seems to be to dark of a scenario for anyone to want to talk about. I see a lot of defensiveness in the replies.

You are comparing bundled PS2 GH2 prices to unbundled PS3/360 Rock Band prices. That's laughable.
Unbundled costs more than bundled. PS3/360 costs more than PS2. That's not Harmonix ripping you off; that's a fact of life.

That's fair enough. It still does applies to the original point though.
No other options have been discussed in an official way for months. It's been talked about in interviews going way back to E3 but look at the website, there isn't any mention about smaller combos. Look at retailer websites, no mention.
I think you do agree, buying pieces individually at the currently listed prices would be over paying even with as much as we are all anticipating this game.
I would like to have some idea if I'll be able to buy a drumset+game near launch time and what will it cost because I'm not willing to pay $140.

It's possible that you'll be out of luck at launch time. Of course, this makes sense: take care of the people who buy the full bundle and make sure that has a smooth launch, rather than mucking everything up with individual instrument sales.

Of course that would make sense if supply is going to be short. If that is the case, that's fine.
I just wish they were forethcoming with that info. Or atleast they would say we'll be making an announcment xx date before launch on what will be available.
This thread has dragged on long enough. I'm done.
Thanks you for your input everybody!
