My wife and I are having a Rock Band party this weekend. I know a lot of others here have had successful Rock Band parties, and I was wondering which DLC songs were most populat at your parties. Most of the people coming have little to no skill playing GH or RB, so I'm leaning towards picking up some easier stuff. Also, most of the crowd is in their 30's and 40's (along with their kids who are like 7-12 years old).

I do have about 25-30 songs in DLC, already, but I'm just looking for other recommendations. Thanks in advance. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The Weezer songs are fun without being hard.
Maybe, for a laugh, pick up Thrasher or You Got Another Thing Comin and get some kid to sing in front of his/her parents.

All the Boston songs, for sure.
Jukebox Hero
Roam
both Blondie songs
Brass in Pocket
ALL other songs with female singers--you'll want them to join in--or else they'll get bored, and bored females at parties is not something you want.

You might be tempted for Metallica, but don't get it just for the party. They'll all just fail and won't have any fun. Avoid the thrash pack for similar reasons--plus, moms don't want their kids hearing that.

El Scorcho is tempting, but the "God D*mn" line will turn unwanted heads.

Judas Priest will satisfy the dudes, but they'll probably only want to play You've Got Another Thing Comin. Save your money on the others unless you want them for yourself.

Oh, and once again... BOSTON! It's perfect for any party with 30-somethings.

Oh, and the Grateful Dead pack is good, although expect the 12 year olds to leave the room. (which is something you might want, anyway. :D )

A good selection of female vocals. A lot of women will be more comfortable wth that.

* B-52's - Roam
* Pretenders - Brass in Pocket
* Blondie - Call Me

From the DLC that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

I hate Oasis, but I bet that would be a popular party pick.

Other popular songs for the 30-40 crowd:

* CCR - Fortunate Son
* Foreigner - Juke Box Hero
* Black Crowes - Hard to Handle
* Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
* Boston
* Judas Priest - Nother Thing Comin

Edit: OP, isn't your avatar a Smith's album cover? Ermmm....(wracking brain).. The Queeen is Dead? I love that album. Wouldn't make good Rock Band songs though, lol.

I'd recommend stuff that is played on the radio a lot but also some classics. Here's some recommendations for you...

The Police - Message in a Bottle (you can also do Roxanne, which technically has less kid-friendly subject matter but most kids probably don't know "you don't have to turn on the red light" is referring to prostitution)

Boston - More than a Feeling (it's a classic)

Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin' (ditto)

Fall Out Boy - This Ain't a Scene, It's An Arms Race (pretty much for the teens in the crowd that the parents might bring)

The Clash - Train in Vain (it's catchy and it's now probably the easiest song in the game)

Weezer - Buddy Holly (this is a very well known song, people from all of the age groups have probably heard it)

Oasis - Wonderwall (ditto)

Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song (unlike Sex Type Thing, the lyrics are a lot more mild, also it's a 90s song that was played on the radio a lot. Pretty fun too.)

Blink 182 - All the Small Things (as an alternative or addition to Fall Out Boy, pretty much for the younger set as a song they'd know)

Other stuff depends on the musical preferences of your guests.

Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds like the Boston, Dead, and Oasis packs I bought will be pretty popular. I am definitely thinking about picking up a few more songs with women singers for the party. I just picked up the Fall Out Boy song last week for my daughter, so the kids will like that one. And, jeccaneko, your list covers nearly all of my DLC, so that is encouraging. :)

Right now, I am leaning towards "Call Me" from Blondie, "Roam" from the B-52's, and maybe the Garbage song "Why Do You Love Me?". A couple of you have mentioned the Black Crowes. That might be another I pick up. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Get Roxanne, and play the Roxanne drinking game at the same time.

Awesome. I don't have all of that DLC myself (yet) so I can't tell you how hard each part is, but as a music fanatic/musician, I think that's probably a pretty good list of party songs.

Oh, if you want female sung songs, I'd also suggest giving Paramore's Crushcrushcrush a shot. I don't know how many will recognize it since Paramore's a rather new band, but it's fun on all parts. Even bass and drums are good, which are parts that tend to get a bit boring and repetitive on some songs (I slightly dislike Green Grass and High Tides on anything but guitar for that reason).

Get Roxanne, and play the Roxanne drinking game at the same time.

Maybe it's because I don't drink (yes, I'm old enough for those who don't feel like clicking on my profile) but I don't see what the point of getting drunk that fast is. It won't be too much a party because everyone will end up taking turns hugging the toilet. :D

Lol. Sounds like we're throwing the exact same party this weekend. Our age range is a bit wider though - 7 - 82.

All of the DLC suggestions previously posted are good suggestions. You're going to want songs that people will sing or know at least the chorus.

For added fun pick up a cowbell and tambourine.

Wow, that is a very, very nice site. Bookmarked. I'll definitely take a look at the recommendations. I like the sorting categories, as well.

And, once again, jeccaneko, you've picked another song in my DLC. I picked it up for the discount price last week, and found that I really like it a lot more than I thought. Plus, my daughter knew the song and loves singing when I play it.

I notice that my favorite songs tend to be in the 4-7 difficulty range on guitar and drums. They are hard enough to not be boring, yet not so tough that I have to struggle to finish them. :)

Good luck with your party, Gryffindor, also. I'll have to ask and see if someone has any extra percussion instruments to bring over.

Thanks, again.

Simple...

Anything Police
Anything Boston
B-52's - Roam
Blondie - Call Me
I'm REALLY surprised no one really suggested My Sharona OR Bang a Gong. Classics...

Then pretty much anything anyone else likes

"My Sharona" is one of those songs everyone'll want to play until they get to the solo and fail every time. :)

I'm hosting a "Rock Band" party this weekend, and am expecting a bunch of college boys and only one or two girls (besides myself, that is), tops.

All the Boston songs, for sure.
Jukebox Hero
Roam
both Blondie songs
Brass in Pocket
ALL other songs with female singers--you'll want them to join in--or else they'll get bored, and bored females at parties is not something you want.

I do have most of these. The only Blondie song I have (and at the moment ever plan to have) is "Call Me", and that and "Roam" are the only female DLC songs I have or want right now (not a Garbage, Paramore, or Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan, I'm sick of "Portal" and "Portal"-related things, and I realized that while "Brass In Pocket" is not a bad song to listen to, it would be boring to play). And I use a PS3, so once something's downloaded, it's there forever, so I wouldn't download anything just for the party.

You might be tempted for Metallica, but don't get it just for the party. They'll all just fail and won't have any fun.

Exactly why, despite everyone who plays on that PS3 clamoring for it, it's a good thing we've held off on getting the Metallica pack.

Judas Priest will satisfy the dudes, but they'll probably only want to play You've Got Another Thing Comin. Save your money on the others unless you want them for yourself.

The only other Judas Priest songs I bought besides "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" were "Fever" and "Ridin' On The Wind" because I wanted them for myself- didn't get the whole album.

All that said, here's the DLC I have that I can remember off the top of my head (besides what I've already mentioned):

Packs in their entirety:

The Grateful Dead
The Police
Black Sabbath
David Bowie
(Arguably) Punk (aka Punk Pack 02)
Classic Rock

Singles:

Rock Rebellion
Dirty Little Secret
Hard To Handle
My Sharona
Fortunate Son
Last Train to Clarksville
Working Man
Limelight
Calling Dr. Love

Those should suffice, no? Though too bad the "Nevermind" release is questionable- at least one of the guests is Nirvana fan.

Let us know if you actually convince that 82 year old to play. My 80-something grandfather is willing to try any new card or board game but he won't touch video games with a 10 foot pole. He'd certainly have fun watching, but he'd never play with us. :(

That would be my aunt who's a very spry 82 yo. She acts more like she's in her 40's/50's. I doubt she'll know any of the songs though. This is part of the reason why I picked up a tambourine and cowbell - for people that I know aren't going to sing or play an instrument.

Nah as long as they don't play it on Expert they shouldn't have a problem lol
