View Full Version : An idea about adding cymbals etc..

Not sure if someone has thought of this before.
An idea on how it could be possible for HMX to create and addon to the drum set to add symbols and an extra pedal. If they added what would basicly amount to a second drum controller that would be in the shape of symbals, extra pads and a pedal that attaches to the exsisting drums. They could still use the same 4 colours and line arrangement for notes only make them look smaller like HOPOs and a line that is only on the center 2 rows. This would allow exsisting drums set to work by hitting the right colours and for people with extra bits to get a more realistic experiance. Basicly you would just be hitting the same colours just in differnt places or hitting the original positions if you cant reach over in time.
HMX could then possibley update there old songs to reflect these new shapes(all it would take would be to change the size of the right bits. admitiedly this could take a lot of time or might not even be possible).
Hopefully this post makes sense to other people.
Anyone else see potential in this idea.
Just a pet peeve, but you spelt cymbals 3 different ways.......
Anyway, I remember FelixTheCat was working on the idea. He made some that he wired in for his set, but he was looking into a plug and play kinda thing. His were just like the regular drums (meaning you could play a song with the cymbals), each one corresponded to a pad.

activision have implemented this onto their drums for guitar hero 4 i belive and i hate them for doing so making us buy their drums when harmonix were nice enough to make activisions guitar controllers work with their game activision are spiteful
i probs wont get GH4 anyway because with the amount of DLC that HMX brings out and continues too who needs a new game?

Only issue would be where to plug in the extra pads. Coding would be long process but could be done.

I wasn't patient enough to wait and hope HMX would build it, so I did it myself.

They could probably just have it connect to where the pedal is connected now and have like a special adapter that you plug the cymbals into and then connect the pedal to that. I don't think it would be to difficult hardware wise but then you take into account what about all the RB songs that there are now that only use the 4 pads + pedal?

Well there is no point in making cymbals if they just correspond to the same pads that are already in the drumset. They would be merely for an authentic feel and nothing else.
If HMX made a cymbal set then they would literally have to redo the drums from scratch. Not to mention all the DLC charts that are already out. That is way too much work just for the addition of cymbals. It would have been nice to have them when the game first launched. I only see them adding such a feature in the next installment of the game.

I agree with you here. I don't see HMX really going back and editing all the charts and releasing a new set. Though playing with cymbals adds more fun and an extra challenge. You do have to know the song well enough to know when the notes are toms or cymbals. Over all, I find it "worth it".

I'm actually adding a cowbell to my set. Just waiting for parts to arrive.

you really need to post up a video on how that mod works with the cymbals because i don't honestly see how it works, and i kinda see how the cowbell would work with the singing and all but not with the drums
but that just makes me want HMX to add MORE COWBELL!!! - Blue Oyster Cult as DLC

The cymbals are wired into the Y, B, & G pads. They are mounted with peizo transducers (much similar to the ones in the stock drumset) which triggers the notes. Sorry I don't have a cam to post a vid though. The cowbell will mainly be for QotSA's "Little Sister". I might also add yet another cymbal for the rare occasion in which red is a hi-hat.
