I bought Rock Band for Xbox 360 and a wired guitar only. When i try to play it won't recognize that i have the guitar plugged in. The ring of light on the guitar just keeps flashing, even if i have my normal 360 controller off. The game has me automatically setup for using the mic, which i don't have. Every time i try to navigate the menu the game tells me i have to plug a mic in to continue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you try to run the game with only the guitar (which one? Stratocaster, Les Paul, Xplorer?) plugged in and the green circle flashes on the guitar then there's something wrong with how the guitar is connected. I can't for the life of me remember what the whole green circle flashing means. Are you using the USB hub between the guitar and the console? If so try it without.
When the game asks you to plug in the microphone, that's because your primary controller is the hand controller and the hand controller and the microphone are a pair that make up the singer controls. Basically if you don't have a mic, never use a hand controller to navigate the game because to Rock Band: hand controller = singer. singer = need mic.

Fred...it's a wired Stratocaster, bought it off eBay and it's brand new....looks like it was a replacement controller as it has paperwork to evidence that, go figure. I do not have the USB hub, I am plugging the guitar directly into the ports on the Xbox. I bought a used game bundled with the new guitar on eBay. I actually figured out the microphone thing, I plugged my chat headset into the controller and I can get through the menu and into a song, but I only have the vocal capability, the guitar is not recognized. When I plug the guitar into the Xbox (I've tried all three ports), nothing happens, when I push the sync button, the Xbox thinks for a bit but then nothing. Yet the button on the guitar flashes repeatedly. I'm stumped. There is also some rattling sound in the guitar like something is in there but I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with this kind of problem. Hope that helps, I'm eager to hear your input. Thanks.

If the guitar does not sync connected, you got a bad guitar more than likely (and I'm willing to bet the guy who sold it to you knew that, but that's just a hunch). Second, the rattling sound is more than likely the tilt sensor. All the strats do that.
You may want to RMA the strat and go get a used LP or Xplorer from your local Gamestop (or whatever game store you have where you are).

Yeah, I went ahead and filed an Express RMA. I wrote to the seller on eBay that the guitar was DOA as they claimed to accept returns and instead they were all too eager to direct me to EA for a replacement guitar, how convenient! So basically they sold me a guitar that they probably knew didn't work and got paid for nothing. Ah well, I'm not one to cause trouble and I hate negative feedback retaliation (don't we all?) so I just neg. commented them with a positive rating, ZING! We should have the new guitar in a week, no harm no foul.
