I believe the ones made more recently are less likely to get the Red Ring of Death... I know I just got one a week or two ago and I haven't had any problems with it. (knock on wood). Even though that doesn't mean much, I think it should be all right if you wanted to buy one.

With a 3 year warranty, plus that newer xboxs are a ok you've got nothing to worry about. The newer 360s don't break as much as PS3s, but if you were to get a pre-owned older xbox I'd tread carefully.

What the hell are you talking about? The PS3's have a failure rate of 0.02% I know the newer 360's are a vast improvement over the "first generation" of 360's sent out, but you should try telling the kid the truth.

To the original poster,
I wouldn't worry about the RRoD as much as say a few months ago, and yeah it'll be under a warranty, but why go a month or two without a video game system that you invested probably around 500 dollars or so (including games, accessories and such). It's not like they send you a new one out right away. Until next year I would still be a tad wary, and if you do get one just keep it flat and in a wide open space, and well ventilated, sounds like common sense, right? lol

Actually I'm right. Go look around the internet a bit (I reguarly delete my cookies history etc. so I can't tell you exactly what site I read it off, but some MS worker was shouting it from the rooftops)

Of course, but for him/her to say it they would require SOME form of evidence.

I had to get my xbox 360 replaced, no warranty but I got my money back, sweet.
Just hope it doesn't brick on Rock Band, ugh, that'd be the ultimate joy kill.

Then I'm sure he/she shortly jumped off of said rooftop because he/she was layed off due to the RRoD setting Microsoft's gaming department back.

Ba-zing! :D

Dude, this is the internet. Since when do you need evidence to say something? Except for maybe Wikipedia...

Meh your decision. The now ROD threat is so low its negligible. You should be deciding on games not something that is now minor.

I had a first gen core that went kaboom two weeks ago. However, the new ones are built better with heat sinks. You also cannot go wrong with an Elite. Those are tough!

I have a 1st generation 360, have had it since it came out (of course), use it constantly, and it has yet to have RRoD. Just don't change the position a lot and keep it in an open space and you should be fine.

The Elites seem to have no issues. They are sweet. I wish I had one.
