I have been posting in the tech support forum lately about our new project, and I finally have some pictures to post to wet everyones whistle. We have been working on a better drum head and here is our proof of concept. Its not quite functional yet, but its getting there. This would essentially be a "beta release". The structural material as well as padded top are no where near finalized, but this is an idea of what we are going for. Click the pic below for more pictures.

Hey lando, I was just thinking about the part in your blog where you said you were trying to come up with a different way to mount these than the original rubber plugs.
Well, consider the fact that 100% of the people who want to buy these will be using them as replacement heads on their already-existing kit. So wouldn't it be easier just to ship out your heads without those plugs, but include a place to attach them and let us use the ones already on our kits?
It's just 2 little screws to remove them, so it wouldn't be hard at all for us to put them on the new heads ourselves, and could keep your costs down too :)

These seem cool and all but price is definately an issue. The stand alone drumset cost $49.37. I wouldn't pay more for a full set of these pads than what a new drumset would cost. Judging by the cost of the replacement censors alone, These drum heads could be twice as much. Either way, I'm curious and will pay attention as these develope.

I don't know if it's possible with the RB kit, but have you considered mesh heads?
I would LOVE to play on something with the rebound of my TD-9 KX, that has the same sensitivity.

That may be my next project.

Yes that would be easier to do. However, we want to provide the best possible solution for everyone. Some people are concerned with warranty issues, and some are not experts with mechanics, so a plug a play drum head that takes 20 seconds to install would be a universal solution for everyone.
However, cost is an issue. It is looking as though buyers may have the option of choosing their mounting system.

If we can sell enough drum heads and sensors (spread the word peoples!) we can drastically reduce the cost of each. If the price is more than $50 per kit, rplease emember that you wont be having to replace our drum heads again and again. It would be a one time fee.

Yes we have considered mesh heads. We have also recieved numerous emails about people asking for mesh heads. These would be ideal, however, extremely expensive for average joe gamer. Our business planned is geared towards a low cost solution for everyone at the moment. This would include moms and pops and 13 year olds, who most likely would not have the cash to drop on a mesh drum set. If you want a mesh drum set, please contact Trevor at his site

He was interested in possibly making a few custom sets for people if they are interested.

One thing you could possibly offer is a group pre buy. It would give you a guaranteed audience and let you know what you're dealing with. On the flip side, the work would have to pretty much be flawless or you would need a warranty exchange that competes with HMX.
To me, I don't care if I have to replace my drums every few months, I just send them back and wait for my new set. In fact, I don't even wait, I have two sets...

Eric,
A consolidated buy is not such a bad idea. As for flawlessness, everything we produce is manufactured down to .0014 of an inch on a laser, and .002 on a router. So all parts will be almost exactly the same. We hope that they will be good enough that they wont need returning! ha ha.

I really want these and im thinking of abandoning RB all together I mean with the GH 4 coming out with drums I might give those a spin because Im willing to bet they will work a hell of alot better than the RB drums.
