The Rock Band - Philadelphia Flyers connection

I've been going to a lot of the playoff games this year, and maybe it's just thanks to the heavy amount of Rock Band I've been playing in my spare time, but there seem to be quite a few Rock Band references at each home game.

1) During the pre-game warmup, one of the songs the announcers usually play is "Shockwave" by Black Tide; either as the first song for them out of the gate, or the last song as the buzzer sounds.

2) An introductory video showing highlights of the playoffs to date is set to Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

3) During one of the intermissions, the Arenavision screen was playing the new video from Paramore entitled "Pressure", in which the lead singer was wearing a Flyers t-shirt.

4) One of the "Let's Go Flyers" video clips that they play during a whistle in play is a scrolling note chart in time to the organ and claps. Granted, it's more done in a Guitar Hero style, but still...

And, as an aside, during this year's Fan Appreciation Night, they were giving out prizes to lucky fans all night long. Five of the prizes that were given out included a Rock Band Special Edition!

Wonder if it's all just a coincidence... :)

I played a guy on Score Duel once that had a character with a shirt that said "Let's Go Flyers" on it. Was that you? (Serious question)

Interesting that they're kinda promotion Rock Band. I don't know what kind of connection they have, if any. They could just like the game. I know the Seattle Mariners do stuff with the Nintendo DS, but Nintendo owns the Mariners.

No Blitzkrieg Bop? It seems to play at every freaking arena. In Montreal it even says "Lait's go" on the big screen, throwing in a bad pun on behalf of milk sponsorship :rolleyes:.

LOL -- good catch spartan! Actually, this past game they gave out shirts that said "the most intimidating fans in hockey" on the front, and... erm... "MEGADETH SECURITY" on the back, bookended by a few smaller Flyers logos.

You realize what THIS means, of course.

too bad they won't be going back to Philadelphia. Pens in 5 in front of Mario and the Pittsburgh faithful.

great turnaround by the Flyers though and they have had some HORRIFIC luck with injuries needless to say. not an excuse for the Flyers but its definitely contributing to the 3-1 deficit.

it sounds like the sound engineer at your arena is a Rock Band fan, no doubt. both arenas do a good job playing decent music.

most people wouldn't have realize this but Pressure was out a few years before most people reading this ever heard of Paramore. the album is a lot less poppy, still very good (more my style then their new stuff). first song I heard by them, never imagined they'd be as big as they are.

I have to say that I was impressed with how the Flyers came out in game 4. It will be real tough for them to do that for 3 more games. A comeback's not impossible, but it will be pretty close to it against the Pens, especially with Timmonen and Coburn. Even if they do come back for 5, they won't be 100%.

In any event, I'll keep my Scott Stevens hits reel on a constant loop and wait for next year. :)
