There are no sections dedicated as "solo sections" in any of the bass i played (which would be the 15 tour songs + a few at PAX) so it couldn't hurt...but you gotta wait for official word if the guitar will work with the game or not...

Although if you get up to a 5x multiplier you get a "Bass Groove" which makes the fretboard more artsy and amplifies the sound...

I would think that if there was an actual bass solo in the song, then maybe it would work that way. Like in YYZ for GH II there was a bass solo section in that song. Although I feel like for the most part the solo buttons are strictly guitar.

I don't recall ever seeing any solo sections for the bass. If the GH3 controller works at all, it should be perfectly fine for your bass. I'll probably be using my GH2 Xbox 360 controller for the bass.

I asked this exact question over at Scorehero.com and received a reply from, dfan, a Harmonix representative: "Nope, the special abilities of solo buttons are just for guitar solos. We tried to minimize the number of bass solos in the game."

whoa whoa, I was led to believe that you can use the solo button for the entire song if you want to, all it is is tapping. I'm pretty sure you can use the solo button how you want, when you want, and on what instruments you want. Thanks

Yeah, you'll be able to use them. But you'll have to strum. Unless you're playing guitar and you get into a solo.

Listen, all the lower fret buttons do is tap. Tapping is setting your amp to be super sensitive, and you don't need to strum, you only have to tap the note, hence the name. You can tap entire songs if your good enough on guitar (obviously some exceptions but come on). You can do the same thing with bass, and don't tell me you can't because I do in real life. You can use the lower buttons anytime you want (tapping) but they are mostly there for some of the ridiculous solos in the game (heres hoping we see some). I'm positive that you should and can use them anytime you want on bass and guitar in the game, and if not then that completely messed up since you can in real life. Thanks

No, listen. He was trying to clear that up for you.

The bottom buttons are just another set of five frets. During specific sections (guitar solos), they are changed into "tap" buttons. The rest of the time they are exactly like the top buttons.

It is not possible to just play the guitar "tap" all the time and never strum.

Oh ****! I got confused, I thought they were taps all the time! Wow sorry guys, my friend from school misled me. Who feels like a jackass *points at himself*. Thanks

:( I hope this all doesn't hold over into DLC. I can see them not doing tap on bass solos (unless it's Jaco, or Victor Wooten, in which case they had better let you tap), but I hope they don't avoid all bass solos like the plague. WE ARE NOT SECOND CLASS CITIZENS! I WILL NOT BE SILENCED! :D

Don't forget the occasional song where the bass part is actually a second guitar part (lead and rhythm). I expect it would be nice to have the fully-functioning RB controller in that case, but it won't happen often and in any case the songs will all be playable on without solo buttons.

I plan to start with one RB controller and, assuming the GH III controller works, use that as my bass guitar. Later I will probably add a second RB controller.

It's ok man, you just weren't informed correctly :p but yeah. When playing you can play with either the top or bottom frets, but you'll have to strum. During the solo is when you'll be able to use the bottom buttons to top, but while in the solo if you try using the top buttons to tap, it won't work. you'll have to strum.

Have we found any songs where this is the case (aside from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song, since they apparently don't have a bassist)?

Maybe not in the songs on the actual game disc, but DLC is bound to have songs where there are two guitar parts.

I was hoping that there would always be a bass part. It's a BAND!!

Why, uh..why would they want to intentionally avoid bass solos? I could understand if they're too drawn out and just wind up boring everybody, but otherwise I can't really see that being a beneficial decision. If there's a good reason I'm overlooking, I'd love to hear it.
