View Full Version : Unplayable DLC Songs

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if there are any suggestions as to what I do:

I play on an Xbox 360. Last night I started the download of "Hanging on the Telephone". I then started up the game with the intention of playing a few songs while the song downloaded. I played one and the song finished, so I then played "Hanging on the Telephone". Then as I searched for another downloaded song to play I all of a sudden got a screen saying something along the lines of "The song information has become unavailable. Rock Band cannot continue without it. Your game session has been restarted." It then booted me from my career and sent me back to the main menu. So I went back into my career to see if it would happen again, sure enough I got booted once again with the same message when I landed on "Moonage Daydream". So I shut off my Xbox and watched a movie, assuming that maybe something had happened with reading DLC since I downloaded a song while playing.

Afterwards I went back and tried to play "Moonage Daydream", when I selected it and it should play the prieview, it gave me the message again and took me back to the main menu. So I decided that perhaps the songs files had become corrupted, I searched through my entire list of DLC (which is quite a bit) and found 6 songs that this happened with: "Joker & The Thief", "Message in a Bottle", "Moonage Daydream", "Roam", "Saints of Los Angeles", and "Shockwave". Each time the preview should have started it instead gave me the message and sent me to the main menu, so this took me a while to do.

I then went to the dashboard and deleted all these songs and re-downloaded them off Xbox Live Marketplace. I left it over night to download, and went back this morning to play these songs, and the same problem is still happening. It gives me the message and returns me to the main menu, essentially leaving this song unplayable for me.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem, or if there is anyway to fix this?

Thanks for reading this long post and any help you may be able to give me.

You're using a different console now than the console you used to download the songs? Are you connected to xbox live? If you want to use the songs offline, you need to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and tell them to update the serial number of your console.

No this is the same console I've downloaded all the songs on. I know about the linking between consoles and gamertags, since I have had to deal with Xbox Live Arcade games. But I've only used this console for Rock Band, and I'm also online at the time. So there shouldn't be any issues with that.

Curious: Were you downloading the song through the in-game Store, or the xBbox live marketplace?

I dislike the fact that you can't do a background download of a song from the in-game store.

I actually have the same problem with a few of my songs. Songs that were added to my list even though I never purchased them.

I ended up purchasing the songs just so I didn't have unplayable songs on my list... they still don't work. So, I deleted them and redownloaded... they still don't work.

I don't even get error messages when trying to play them... just a loading screen that never ends.

NOTE: This makes it very difficult to play "Mystery" setlists in band world tour.

I'm having this same problem with Fortunate Son and Saints of Los Angeles. I've tried to re-download them a couple of times (through the in game Music store) but have thus far only been getting the unending loading screen. I'm going to try to download them one more time from the xbox live market place and see how that works out.

The songs should be redownloaded. I had one song that did it.

Hopefully your hard drive is not messed up.

You guys can stop replying to this thread. Tom Strong also created one over in Tech Support and I was able to resolve the problem he was experiencing.

It's over. :p

For those who are too lazy to look, I had the problem and resolved it by deleting the DLC cache file from my hard drive.

Restarting the game caused the file ("Loading additional content....") to be regenerated and fixed the problem.

also problems could be due to using different gamertags. i know some people said this wasnt the case but playing the songs on a different gamertag than you downloaded them on causes an unending loading screen

I brought this to the dev team. One of our programmers suggest that you go into the Dash and delete the file "Rock Band Download Data". Let me know in a PM how it goes so I can report back to the team.

Thanks!

And here I thought this thread was going to be about Thrasher. ;)

I've got two files that will not load (they appear on the set lists, but just stall in an un-ending loading screen): Saints of Los Angeles and Fortunate Son. I have tried deleting them and re-downloading from account management tab, music store and xbox live marketplace. I have tried deleting the rockband download data file and several combinations of the above; but get the same result every time. The songs do load if I am online and signed in to my xbox live account.

Sounds like you bought those two songs on a different Xbox. Is that the case?

I don't think so, but it is certainly possible. If that is the case, do I just need to contact MS then?

You can try, but I'm not sure if they'll transfer DLC licenses for an occasion like that.

Next month (supposedly), they are releasing a tool to help consolidate DLC licenses. We'll see about that :)

I think this is the problem I have...

When I first got Microsoft Points, I accidentally placed them on my cousin's gamertag and downloaded some of my songs from there. They worked fine for a while until about a month ago, now all of those songs I downloaded from his account won't work, including 1-2 songs I downloaded from my own gamertag. When he plays on my Xbox under his gamertag, those songs work and the ones I downloaded don't work for him.

I tried doing that thing with the hard drive cache, and that worked for a day. Just tried it again, and it didn't work.

I hope there's a way to resolve this that doesn't involve repaying for those songs

Help?

I wouldn't even mind re-paying for the songs at this point. If I signed on to xbox live with the guest account and downloaded the songs again, would they work? Mostly what I mean is, can you download DLC songs with a guest account, and can you add MS points to a guest account?

i had the same problem as the OP and i deleted BOTH the "rock band download data" and the "rock band music store data" and everything was fixed, havent had a problem since.
for the guy that has the infinite loading screen make sure you are online cos i got that once and it was because i took my hdd to my friends house and downloaded a song on his xbox so i have to be online to play that song otherwise it gets stuck in the loading screen.

Guest account, no. But you can create a new XBL Silver account (free) and download DLC with that.
