Guitar Hero and Rock Band Guitar Compatibility

Does anyone know for a fact about the compatibility about using the Guitar Hero Guitar on Rock Band and the Rock Band Guitar on Guitar Hero?

I've heard that Guitar Hero controllers will work on Rock Band, but with limited functionality. I have heard NOTHING about Rock Band Guitars working on Guitar Hero.

I'm not looking forward to owning 4 different wired and wireless controllers. Everything that doesn't require massive amounts of power should just be wireless standard this day an age.

GH3 guitar with Rock Band: likely to work, since Harmonix has said it will support 3rd party controllers. This is assuming Neversoft/Red Octane followed the open controller standards


Rock Band guitar with GH3: this depends if the GH3 software does not block the Rock Band guitar

Rock Band guitar with GH1/2: likely, since, once again, Harmonix has said their controller follows open controller standards and nothing has changed from the previous titles.

I should have specified my system (Xbox 360). You'd think they have this information plainly available on the websites. They are competitors but owned by the same company?

Nope. It's all up to Neversoft to make this work. And we won't know until both GH3 and Rock Band are released.

It's 2 different companies: Activision/Neversoft/Red Octane v. EA/Harmonix

Some interviews with the GH guys have implied (but didn't outright say) that the GH3 controllers would not be compatible.
