Hi there,

Sorry if this has been asked.

Does anyone know how scoring works? Is there a separate campaign score, or just one overall score? The reason I ask is that I hope there isn't a campaign score. That way I'm likely to pay as much attention to all of the songs available, rather than just a concentrated group as I've tended to do with GH.

The downside of this is many will feel that this is unfair, as it means those with more money in their pocket can 'buy' a higher score via DLC, but hey, that's capitalism for you ;)

And for the love of god, please someone announce the official UK/European release date. I need this game!!!

If there is one big overall score, I think most rational people will ignore it, realizing that, most likely, the people at the top bought their way there.

It's been mentioned before, US release date only got announced 2 months before said date. EU release is sometime in 2008, so you'll likely have to wait until at least November. Just sit down and enjoy yourself until then.

Sometime in 2008 is way too vague for my liking. If it's Jan, so be it. I'd just like to know.

Re the scores. You make a good point. However, I'd like to see some incentive attached to playing DLC tracks other than just for playing sakes. I think this would enhance the longevity of the game. I'm done with GH now. I can't get any better on my reasonably good score and although I go back to it now and again like a physical jukebox, I'm only improving scores by 100 points here and there. If the bonus tracks were also included and only one set of scores recorded, this would mean I'd be concentrating on getting my score up, because there'd be so many tracks to work with still.

As for people ignoring the top scores. Have you seen some of the top scores on GHII? 200,000 points for killer queen on easy! Also, an average player 'buying' themselves a top score is likely to be outdone by an expert player with less DLC anyway. Like I say, I see your point, but I'd still prefer just one score.

HMX doesn't really hide this stuff. I'll bet you that they just don't know yet, and no amount of asking will either get them to decide or tell you any faster. You didn't see me complaining last week when all I knew was sometime in November.

My ideal solution would be as follows:
Cumulative top scores on all main-game tracks (the licensed ones), bonus songs, and all on-disc songs, as well as individual boards for each song. Then with each DLC have individual scoreboards, as well as a cumulative board for each album/artist pack.

I guess there could be a cumulative overall scoreboard, but assuming we do get 100+ DLC tracks in a year, some people will have double the scoring opportunities as others. Nobody will give a crap if you're on top of that board, it just means you still have no life and way too much money.

I guess I just think it's a bad idea to focus on scoreboards rather than having fun. Yes, it's cool to be a ranked player, but it can easily become a chore. If your incentive to play the game is just to be rank 13,000 instead of 13,100, why aren't you doing something better with your time that you'd be enjoying more?

Re the release date. The difference is you knew it would be sometime in November. We still don't know.

BTW. I have a life. I very nice one in fact (which is why no end of DLC cost bothers me). However, I also happen to be quite competitive. That, for me, is part of the fun. I appreciate not everyone will feel the same. That's what makes life interesting, no?

True, but before that we were in the same boat as you are now: Q4 2007. Again, I'm confident that if they knew, they'd tell you. Does it really matter this far out, though?

I wasn't intending to imply that, so I apologize if that's how I came off. I love leaderboards too. I'm mostly referring to those people who will sit and play every song, including the ones they don't like, 20+ times in a row just to add 100 points to their score. I'm sure you're probably more like me. I played All of This on GH1 daily because I loved it. I also tried to increase my score as much as possible, but I enjoyed both aspects of it. I agree that progress on higher scores is rewarding, I just don't like systems that reward grinding through every song, since personal preference goes a long way to keeping things fun.

I guess what I'm saying is that I hope (and believe) that HMX has a system that is fair and balances both fun and competition.

Well, judging by the way they've drip-fed information, kept fans up to date via blogging and a well maintained forum (unlike other upcoming games I could mention), been reasonable with the cost and chose a great soundtrack so far, I'm positive as well.
