Local boys, I've always been partial to Great Southern Trendkill and Far Beyond Driven, alot of the stuff before then was good but a bit to "hair" for me.

Dime was a god. \m/

Overrated...very very overrated, if Dime were still alive, they wouldn't be nearly as idolized.

Buuuuuutt that doesn't change the fact that they ****ing rock. And on that note, I love Far Beyond Driven.

Hey, for all you DragonForce haters... Before Pantera went all 90's thrash, they were a power metal band. They actually have an album titled "Power Metal" which helped coin the term.

UP YOURS!

Thats all people hear, so thats all they think is power metal. Well, dumbasses on this forum anyway, not real life, non-internets people.

I don't know about the rest of the world but here in Dallas and the rest of Texas we always loved/idolized them way before the tragedy, especially Dime.

Vulgar Display of Power is my favorite album of all time, with Cowboys and Trendkill tied for second. R.I.P DimeBag :(

Yeah. It sucks how someone so happy to be alive, and so full of life can have it all taken away in an instant by some maniac; When you have all these other rock stars killing themselves with drugs. Dime's one of the reasons I ever picked up a guitar. His memory lives on through his music and through the people he touched.

Always big here, but you know it depends where you hang at,if you spend your time with at a more 'normal' bar or something you might think there overrated but try adventuring out sometime an see how many people that live around that you dont even know that really like them,or that you do know,,,but all there stuffs good, old 80's included but the best album? Cowboys,or projects in the jungle

One of the most overrated bands around in metal, and really not all that great, but their 80s albums were good, with Power Metal being the best one.

Cowboys from hell! My brother-in-law was friend's with Dimebag and has always spoken highly of him. I never did get to meet him but everyone I know that has spoke good things. I was told he was a geniune and honest guy and friendly as hell. A severe tragedy and loss. I think Pantera was one of the best metal bands around. Rest in peace Darryl.

So much that they sometimes played cowboys from hell when the cowboys took the field...

I think that the place that Pantera holds in the history of Metal in the USA cannot be UNDERSTATED. In the lean years of metal when everyone was playing 3 chord songs and wearing flannel and being the anti-hero hero there were very few people out there keeping metal alive. Pantera was waving the banner and doing it in arenas when alot of the shows that were multiple band shows were in bars.

About those who will point out the glam/power metal beginnings. We all come from somewhere right? My first RECORD's? Queen - News of the World and Kiss - Destroyer. My First Tape's - John Lennons Greatest Hits, Ratt - Out of the Cellar. First CD's - Deicide - Deicide, Death - Human. See how the content changes. I don't thin kyou are more metal than me when I am buying non metal because I have about 24 years of supporting METAL (like early metallica, and Anthrax..I don't count the Ratt, Warrant, Motley Crue Years) yes I still goto Dying Fetus shows, and Malevolent Creation. But I also goto The Police, and Van Halen, and Trans Siberian Orchestra. Same goes with Pantera. Pantera waved the flag when alot were not waving it.

Aside from the fact that DIMEBAG was one of the coolest guys ever to play, and one of the best to play.
