How will the band mates who aren't in the same room talk to one another? Will there be headset support, or keyboard support? I just thought of that, and haven't heard anything on it.

As far as the 360 is concerned, they announced that each peripheral can have the headset plugged into it. And the mic speaks for itself.
Communication will be simple :)

Well I figured the mic was a given lol, should have said that to begin with. Well I don't play 360 much, I did forget about mics being plugged into the controllers, but you will have to have an account for each one to work which sucks. I haven't tried to hook more than one mic to my ps3, note to self.

Hmm, now that I think of it. I don't think you can have 3-4 people talking at once. This is how I think it works:
Say you have you singing, and a buddy with you in your house playing the drums. But you're playing online with 2 other people. Perhaps only 1 person from each console can speak using their own gamertag.
If you're signed into your gamertag, you would talk using your name. And vice versa for the other 2 players.
Basically you can't have 3 people at your house all on mics talking to one other guy over XBL, only 1 of you can talk.
1 person per console can speak.
I hope that makes sense.
EDIT: I've actually never played 360 with someone logging into their gamertag. Can 2 profiles sign in on the same system? If so, then I guess that would work then.

Yeah that makes sense, it would be sweet if everyone could like talk crap to there other band mates. "Dude you guitar makes my bass look good!" or "That's why drummers stay in the back. You ****ing noob!!" lol sorry would just be fun to rant and rave, and rage on my mates.

Yes, each controller can be associated with a different gamertag. This is standard functionality of the 360.

That's what I thought. But I've only played with my friends on XBL, I've never actually had more than 1 controller turned on for my Xbox lol
So yea then, everyone could talk in some sort of lobby I'm sure they'll implement.

What about the mic though? You can't hear the singers voice online remember?

Well, since you need a 360 controller with the Mic, I assume you would just have a standard headset. Or perhaps between songs the mic could be used to talk to your bandmates.
Also, how is it going to work on the PS3?

I doubt people will be able to talk to each other during a song.
Communication will probably be done in a lobby before you start your concert. I mentioned that in my other post.
As for Ps3, I don't have one, so I don't know what to tell you. I'm guessing your headsets plug into USB ports? In which case there might be USB ports on the Ps3 instruments for you.

What do you mean you won't be able to hear the singer online? What's the point of having a singer in your band if you can't hear their voice? Was this announced somewhere I'm not aware of?

Yes it was confirmed. When you play online, you will not hear the player singing, only the master track vocals. Because of lag issues and such, it would be too difficult to send that type of transmission online all with trying to make it spot on.
You can hear the singer when you're all together in your house though.

In one of the recent HMX interviews with Daniel Sussman he let slip some things that implied a lot of voice chat functionality among band members for things like that.

Lol, just don't go starting any flame wars! I've got my 360, so I'll be playing on that. It's a little sad that there won't likely be any cross-platform rocking :(

since when could you ever have more then 1 person log online on the same console?Or have more then 1 person play online on the same console for that matter?

Well, for multiple people with mic if all your friend brought their tag over with them on a Memory Card then it works fine. Everyone can talk at once because each chat is associated with the tag and that controller. So buy a memory card if your gonna be a mobile rocker. =P

Since always. Halo 3, Bomberman Live, and Small Arms are three of the games I own that support this.

Not sure if you misunderstood me, but I'm talking about if you're playing RB with 4 people in one room, the person next to you who's singing, you will hear them through your tv. That's how you always hear people in videos and demos.
BUT, during online play, you will NOT be able to hear the singer.

I suppose that if the singer had a 360 controller with the keyboard attachment that would work, but it would completely kill the whole atmosphere.
Then of course there would be the irony of the only band member that uses a mic being the only one that had to type on a keyboard. That would knock the egotistical frontman down a peg or two! :p

Or the guitarist could glue a keyboard to the back of his guitar. Hey, even during some songs, you flip the guitar over and start playing it as a keytar!

Now you've done it. Some modder with too much time on his hands is going to read this and do just that...

Would you mind pointing me to where this was confirmed. I'm kind of dumbfounded by it. It makes sense, I suppose, from a technical perspective, but it definitley makes me unhappy. As a singer, this was one of the primary reasons for me wanting to pick up this game. I also play guitar hero, but it seems like online multiplayer just got a lot flatter if there in only 75% of the game's functionality.

While I'm not sure where this was confirmed, it makes perfect sense. Most software on your PC that allows you to chat with others has a certain amount of lag, I would imagine that it would take a lot of work for the game to sync up your vocal track with the rest of the music. They bypass this lag issue with the other instruments because the audio for them will be stored locally on each console, thus eliminating the need to stream large audio files to (potentially) three other consoles.
I do agree that this takes away part of the fun, but I still think that the game will be plenty of fun.

Will they have playback features, like after you a few sets, you can go back and view the set with all the sounds like the singer, and the screw ups on the instruments? Cause then it wouldn't be so bad, you could hear what happened and see your avatar rocking out. It would be cool to take pics, and record footage, so you could send it to friends.

Q&A with Harmonix Producer Daniel Sussman
GS: As we understand it, bandmates won't be able to hear the vocalist sing when playing online. Are there plans to add that functionality in the future?
DS: When playing online with others, your bandmates cannot hear you sing; they can only watch your pitch and score on the screen to ensure you're keeping up to par. I can't speak to future plans in this area at this time.

It's good to hear that they're not ruling it out as something in the future. It seems like at this point they're concentrating on getting the core game out for the holidays, which is cool. We can likely expect more than just DLC in the future, things like adding the vocals online and tools for making custom tracks will definitely increase the longterm playability of the game.

I agree, not only is there going to be the DLC for tracks and albums, but I expect full patches, features, and other expansion type content to be available in the years to come.
If done right, they really won't even need to make another sequel for the next 3-5 years because of the replayability of this game.

I think that's exactly the plan. They don't consider Rock Band to just be a game, they're calling it a "platform." Normally I would say that's a bit bold for a company to say, but in this case I think it could turn out to be a good move.
People may complain about the $169 price, but GH is on the track to release two games per year. With a price of around $89 twice a year versus the price of Rock Band spread over a couple of years, it's easy to see who gives you more bang for your buck. Besides, they'll be spending less time designing an entirely new game and spending more time making new content.
