View Full Version : Japanese songs on the way?

Just read the updated DLC blog... one thing stood out for me:

"It’s a little cross-cultural experiment this week. As you may have heard, European editions of Rock Band have a handful of tracks that haven’t been available in the US edition. This week we’re making a batch of those tracks DLC, making this more of a global party: Now you can jam with the French and Japanese folks you’ve met online and let them pick the songs. Or you can just take your band on a world tour, armed with songs to please the continental crowds."

Wait....what?

How could Japanese folks pick the songs if there aren't any in Japanese?

Or, is Rock Band even out over there?!!?

Confusing stuff... Or me just reading too much into a blog post.

At first I thought this meant it was fake.. Implying Online Band World Tour.

Then I realized that it just meant that I had to download those french songs and play them in Paris with my friends! =D

if there are japanese songs...i'd rather not get em...no offence or anything, but the japanese seem to have poor taste in arts (imo) i mean just look at their cartoons. i haven't heard many japanese rock songs (who knows they could be good) but somehow i think they'd sound really weird or use a synthesizer instead of guitar.

please don't call me a racist or intolerant or anything...just stating my opinion.

but i do think it will be cool to finally play with people from other countries (finally)(canada doesn't count...too close)

No, Rock Band is not out here in Japan.

That's why I had to pay $40 in shipping.

Ahh, if Rock Band released some Asian Kung-Fu Generation and/or FLOW, that would make my life oh so sweet.

Pride - High and Mighty Color
Beautiful Morning With You - The Pillows
Carnival - The Pillows
Kiri (Full size version) - MONORAL
Haruka Kanata - Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Hit in the USA - Beat Crusaders

I'd love to see any one of these in Rock Band.

Pillows! WOOOOOOOOOO!

How could you not love the Pillows as a Rock Band DLC band? They are upbeat and have interesting parts in all 4 places.

Are you kidding me. Are you honestly judging how good their music is off of you stereotyping of a genre of animation?

This is a joke, right?

Animation like Spirited Away that won God knows how many awards (including an Oscar?) Or Akira that Ridley Scott says inspired Blade Runner (quite possibly the greatest sci-fi movie in the past 20Y)? Or Neon Genesis Evangelion, considered one of the greatest animated series ever created and Peter Jackson's making into a live action film? You know, Peter Jackon, Lord of the Rings and King Kong? That animation?

Before you dismiss J-Rock (or J-Pop) for that matter, open your ears and your mind because there's ALOT of good stuff out there.

And I'd kill for some J-Rock. Hell, I'd kill for some decent J-Pop (none of that Morning Mesume moppet crap. I'm talking ballady stuff like ELT or the indigo).

first lets get some damn breaking benjamin and more flyleaf before we culturally diversify our dlc.

It's a little to late for that dude. Seeing as how we've now got German and French songs in the game.

Anyway, I would love some J-Rock in the game. Anything would work for me.

Sorry for double posting

Dude, you can't possibly judge the music because of anime!! Not only that but you say you haven't heard many songs! Maybe you should look around on youtube or something and try listening to a bunch of bands, I'm pretty positive that you will find a few J-Rock bands that you will like. I mean it's your opinion and all but at least give it a fair chance.

Im asian, love my anime, love my video games, love my RPGs. Having said that I cant stand J-Rock (J-Pop). Not even their metal scene with bands like Concerto Moon, Galneryus, X-Japan, and Double Dealer. Ive _TRIED_. They have too much of a focus, in general, on non-musical abstract ideas that they try to incorporate into their music (such as fashion). Its just watered down stuff.

You just pretty much explained the answer to your problem, expand your range. the pillows are a great band that covers almost all the bases and pretty much rock in general, they are pretty much a straight up rock band true and true (with great lyrics to boot). On that note yeah, the pillows are a MUST for DLC, though I'd rather they have none of the FLCL crap like Ride on Shooting Star, maybe Little Busters or Hybrid Rainbow but please no Ride on Shooting Star if they have to use FLCL songs.

Another noteworthy band would be L'Arc~en~Ciel, they just about perfectly fit the bill too since they're a four man band with the standard guitar, bass, drums and vocals (all of which would bring a good amount of difficulty and fun). I'd hope for HEAVEN'S DRIVE, Driver's High (if we have to have an anime song that's probably the best one out of most of them besides the old ones like Blurry Eyes, niji, or The Fourth Avenue Cafe), and maybe something from their new album like ALONE EN LA VIDA.

I'll preface saying I'm a white guy (since this poster chose to reveal generic ethnicity), I lived in Japan a while and I have a degree in Japanese.

Let me also say that I really don't want J-Rock or J-Pop in this game. None of my friends would have any desire to play it, and while I tolerate some of it (heck, I even have a load of music from The Gospellers, Gackt and even a touch of X-Japan), I'd be hard-pressed to get the whole group into it.

Although it'd be funny to listen to my band's singer struggle through "20th-Century Boy".

Let's revisit the kid earlier who said he'd like some Breaking Benjamin in this game. I like what he's thinking. Man, I would be insanely good at "Follow Me" off the We Are Not Alone album.

I'd love to play anything by Guitar Wolf, X Japan, or Shonen Knife in RB. Some J-rock or J-metal would add some more variety to the already varied list of DLC. (That, and all of my otaku friends and bandmates would totally eat up anything that comes out of Japan.)

I never really "got" the whole J-rock/J-pop thing. And I'm apparently "supposed" to love it due to my love of certain animes, being a fan of video games that were Japanese in origin (like "King of Fighters", "Fighters Megamix", or "Super Smash Smash Brothers") and regularly attending anime conventions (though mostly just to cosplay and socialize). An ex tried to get me into it, but he failed.

That said, I'll admit that I liked (and wouldn't mind seeing) "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)" by Shonen Knife, a song I discovered via Cartoon Network back when the Powerpuff Girls were popular.

Yeah, I don't know if this game is ready for J-Rock/Pop yet. It still needs to improve on a few other artists I think would be critical to the set list, not to mention rake in a ton of cash to the company. If we're still going on an international scale, I bet $20 they're going to put something ******ed in though for J-Rock/Pop.... *cough* Dir en Grey *cough*

Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if the first J-Rock they put in was nothing but stuff like Dir en Grey or any of the Taste of Chaos bands (no offense to any of the fans).

My range is classic rock, progressive rock, extreme metal genres (thrash, power, death, etc), classic heavy metal, funk, jazz, and grunge rock. My largest gap is alternative rock and punk (everything from hardcore to pop).

I think the biggest reason we most likely wouldn't see any of this music is because of the outright intolerance of people and language. I don't expect the german and french songs to do nearly as well as most DLC, despite even those being plagued by taste differences. But who knows, HMX has had a "please some, piss many" attitude before, and as long as those "some" eventually covers most grounds, I don't mind that tactic one bit. Why do you complain about companies doing things solely for money and then get pissed when a company sacrifices sales to especially please certain groups of fans?

Er... and how does that explain all the Japanese people who are personal friends of mine, including my girlfriend? And, for the record, I am not an avid Japanophile... I just happened to be on holiday there last summer.

Grow up.

Poor taste in cartoons....? The Japanese draw better than most American cartoonists, IMO. At least anime characters have all five fingers on their hands, not this four finger bullcrap that American artists seem to enjoy. Yes I know that's a weak argument, but that's always bothered me personally about American animation. And most anime actually has some substance to it, instead of following the same old forumla most American cartoons follow. And no, they don't use a lot of synthesizers. They play actual guitars! OMG, it's amazing isn't it? The music sounds just like anything an American band could make, the lyrics are just in Japanese! And you say the Japanese have poor taste in art? Explain Hokusai then! One of the art museums in D.C. (I forget which one) devoted a couple months to a special Hokusai exhibit! I should know, I went to it! And japanese artists like Hokusai influenced some of the greatest European artists, like Monet for example! And I never thought I'd use any of the knowledge I gained in that "Japanese influence on eastern art" class. If I find my textbook from that class I could give you even more examples of Japanese artists who influenced art in Europe.

And you ask not to be called racist or intolerant because you're just stating your opinion, but it's opinions that make people racist and/or intolerant! I mean, the KKK are of the opinion that black people are below white people, and that makes them both racist and intolerant! You're of the opinion that japanese rock is below other forms of rock because you don't like anime...I won't say that's racist, but it's certainly intolerant. I know the KKK example may have been a bit harsh, but it was the best way to drive my point home as far as I thought. And I'm also tired of people writing anime off without ever giving it an actual chance. This attitude of "Ew, Japanese animation, I don't want to see that!" is childish and immature, and I see it run rampant everyday at work. People will come in, walk by the anime section (and, subsequently, the camera that we have wired to a t.v. up front) and make their little snide comments. Granted we get as many anime lovers as haters in at work, but it still pisses me off that people feel the need to be so close minded.

All that being said, I'd love me some J-Rock, like Dir En Grey, Ayumi Hamasaki, Mucc, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Nana Kitade, T.M. Revolution, and so on.
