View Full Version : Any worries about Rock Band?

I know, it's horrible to think about. But we all have to admit, there's that one thing that's bugging us about Rock Band. We all adore this God of a game, but there's something ticking in the back of our head that may be a big imperfection in our minds. Let's hear them.

For me, it's the noise of the drum pads. It's probably just the camera picking up the noise of the pads rather than the noise coming out of the speakers, but that sounds like it could be a big distraction.

-Little ****ers online and GHIII fanboys.
-Faulty hardware (REMEMBER THE X-PLORER!?!)
-My head exploding from the pure ownage.
-Expensive DLC
-DLC that fails to impress down the road.
-EA hijacking it in some way.
-Server crashes when I wanna jam.
-People *****ing about the price.

I think I'm paranoid.

Poor matchmaking (Halo 3, anyone? NO CUSTOM GAME BROWSER!)
World Tour play getting owned when one player is offline.
Bass sucking.

The price of the DLC and the guitar difficulty are my two worries. I wish they would hurry up and announce pricing for DLC, and I'm still nervous that I haven't seen any guitar notecharts that look even kinda difficult.

Drum "clanking" can be solved with a surround sound system and pumping the volume. :)

Here are my worries:

-Too many people ruling out the game
-Not enough difficulty in guitar (I agree my hands don't need to be cramping to have fun, but I think the song selection is lacking some needed solos)
-Fender guitar getting mixed reviews - will I like this one more than the Xplorer, or will I ultimately decide to play the lead guitar with the Xplorer?

Well heres what I'm worried about..

The buttons on the strat
The weight of the strat
The overall toughness of the songs (and the bass toughness)
My neighbors sending in a noise complaint

Bass sucking.

Good one I gotta say but I think this is where my faith is the strongest. Just because, despite the hype, GHII had ALOT of awesome bass lines.

True, but the lack of bass campaign (even in shortened version) and the statement that they're "staying away from bass solos" worries me. I don't think it will get any worse than GH2, but I'm holding off my praise until I play it myself.

Yeah. I have decided to dedicate my next two weeks to finding "50 Reason Why Rock Band Should Have a Bass Campaign". 50 rock songs with bass that's totally worth it.

4 players messing up during different parts of the song makes the music alittle hard to listen to. It might not be as noticeable when your actually playing the game but from watching rockband videos this is something that bugs me.

That, my friend, is called being in a band ;) It is, in fact, hard to play when everyone else is messing up.

That's like saying an FPS is hard because it's hard to survive an artillery shell...

He's right. Try playing an instrumental solo and the drummer accidentally throws his stick in the crowd and loses it. Or the big vocalist solo (to which I say "WTF? Vocalist have the right to a solo?") and his voice craps out.

-DLC sucking (although if that Nirvana album is more than a rumor...*smiles*)
-DLC being very pricy
-me sucking ass with the mic
-lagging out during a jam session online *shakes fist at just about any other 360 title*
-everybody riding the "ROCK BAND IS A RIP-OFF OF GHIII!" band-wagon, the only wagon in the world to ever be bathed in gasoline, ******ation, and people who haven't bathed in months...then have a lit match flicked at it

I just hate the people that follow that last thing there, Red Octane made the hardware, Guitar Hero was Harmonix's franchise! How the hell do you make a rip-off of your own product?

- DLC pricing
- Guest sessions mixed between local console and XBL
- online lag

toefer
10-04-2007, 12:23 PM
-DLC pricing/content
-The clunkiness of those square notes falling down the screen (I'm so used to the circles)

As for bass lines, two I'd recommend (not just because I think the bass lines are decent, but because the songs as a whole would/could be fun):

Roundabout - Yes
Under Pressure - Queen/Bowie

trilidar
10-04-2007, 12:23 PM
- DLC content (is HMX going to focus only on what's 'popular' and ignore some stuff that's maybe awesome, but not as well known)

- DLC pricing (this is the BIG one for me. Are they going to price alot of us out of this game?)
- Lag issues

That's really about it.

As far as the Strat goes, I'm sure it'll be just like the X-plorer was when it shipped: I wasn't a big fan and complained about it at first, but once i got use to it there wasn't a problem anymore.

If you have a problem with the drums when they come out (heard they'll be a lot quieter) go to www.turtlebeach.com -if you have a 360- They have really good headphones and they're affordable for what you get.

My biggest worry is the online band system. I hope you'll be able to be in more than 1 band because I want a band for fun and the one for kicking ass in the leaderboards.

Having the Fender turn out to be like the Model 55 of the X-Plorer... crappy strum bar (as opposed to the nice "mouse click" of the Model 65 X-Plorer).

10-04-2007, 01:11 PM
I've been fortunate enough to play the game already, so my concerns over the Fender not being solid, the interface feeling cramped and the HOPOs being a problem have already been laid to rest.

I do of course, still have a few concerns.

Will I ever learn to not hit the guide button while playing the drums? (Seriously, John kept saying that I was pulling a Peter Moore) If not, I guess i'll just have to take matters into my own hands with the drum kit.

DLC songs and pricing. I'm pretty confident that things are looking good, but then again everyone thought that the DLC for GH2 would be gravy. We all saw how that turned out. Still, John seemed pretty confident that the pricing would be more than reasonable. Plus, with the amount of DLC they're talking about, there's no way you can complain about the tracks.

3 major issues based on all the info we've seen and heard.
1) The look of the fret board is cheap
2) The guitar parts not being difficult enough
3) The fender guitar buttons not being as functional as the old ones on gh2 that stuck out from the neck..

This was quite funny.

Online play. I'm a bit worried that it won't be quite as robust and awesome that we're all hoping.

Other than that...nothing. We'll get used to the strat. We'll get used to the rectangle notes. Other worries...eh...I have faith.

1. The lack of metal and will DLC fix that? - I like all styles, but I'd like to see some metal.
2. The DLC pricing since I cannot control purchasing it.
3. Guitar difficulty.
4, The remaining song selection.
5. Living up to the hype in regards to the plans for DLC content - weekly downloads/album downloads on a regular basis - hundreds to thousands of songs for download.

Other than that, I feel pretty confident in Harmonix's abilities. I can't wait to start playing the drum campaign.

My worry is getting a copy (the whole set) when it comes out on Black Friday. Other than that I just have hopes... like more Strokes, Boston and such. Everything else like the new Fretboard, notes and such I like.

as a ps3 only owner, i fear another half-ass port.

i just read IGN's take on the other game:
"We thought it was a bit odd that Activision shuffled everyone into a large room filled with Xbox 360s to display the game while the PS3 and Wii versions were stuck in a separate room in limited number. It may have something to do with the visual quality of the PS3 iteration of Guitar Hero III. While the scrolling notes actually looked better and brighter on Sony's system, the crowd and band most certainly did not. During the intro to songs in many venues, the camera zooms through the crowd up to the stage. On PS3, this gives you an up-close look at the jaggy models that don't come close to living up to the 360 counterparts. Perhaps a last bit of polish has yet to been put on the PS3 version, and the game is all about the music, but it doesn't seem like there would be any reason that the PS3 iteration shouldn't look as good as the Xbox 360 one."

im actually stoked about the music, so as long as it plays fine, i'll be happy, but you never know what to expect with these ps3 versions, sadly.

Well, it's harder to code for, and it has a smaller user base. Put two and two together, and you get less development effort, which can lead to crappy looking games.

DLC won't fail to impress anyone, unless they stop coming out with it. Every week for one year = 52 BLOCKS of music, whether its random songs from a band or an album. 52 times an average 10 songs for each block is over 500 songs. Come on. Unless HMX sucks at picking songs (which they don't), then it might fail to impress you. I also doubt DLC will be coming out every week for only one year. Imagine DLC coming out... forever! I'm most worried about PS3 owners getting the shaft.
-Blaming the PSN for the lack of online features (when it's no ones fault but their own). I mean there are some great online games for the PS3 as long as the devs take the time to make them that way.
-Not using blue tooth and forcing us to use some stupid attachment.
-Worse graphics, framerates etc. on PS3. It's not like Rock Band is about graphics in the first place so the hardware isn't being pushed to it's limits.

I'm also worried about us Canadians getting screwed, mainly when it come to the price. The CDN is worth more then the USD so we should see an even price point. If I find out I have to pay $30 more I'm going to be pissed!

DLC has been a big worry for me as well. Either there being a bad selection of songs or the songs being priced way to high like GH2.

Oh and EA screwing this us as I'm not a big fan of them.

With all of that being said though I don't think Harmonix will let most of that happen (if it's in their control). I have a lot of faith in them as I've been a fan since Frequency.

It's all true, you have to think, there's 40 songs on GHII, and we're all still playing them. I think an album once every while will be completely fine... Its actually 45 :) and i still play Gh1 2 and 80s
