LED ZEPPELIN
Led Zeppelin were an English rock band that formed in August 1968. Led Zeppelin consisted of Jimmy Page (guitar and Theramin), Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica and occasionally tambourine), John Paul Jones (bass guitar, keyboards) and John Bonham (drums, percussion). With their heavy, guitar-driven sound, Led Zeppelin are regarded as one of the first heavy metal bands.[1][2] However, the band's individualistic style draws from many sources and transcends any one genre.[3] Their rock-infused interpretation of the blues and folk genres[4] also incorporated rockabilly,[5] reggae,[6] soul,[7] funk,[8] classical, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, pop, Latin and country. The band did not release the popular songs from their albums as singles in the UK, as they preferred to develop the concept of album-oriented rock.[9]
Close to 30 years after disbanding following Bonham's death in 1980, Led Zeppelin continue to be held in high regard for their artistic achievements, commercial success and broad influence. The band have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide,[10][11][12][13][14] including 111.5 million sales in the United States[15] and they have had all their non-compilation studio albums reach the U.S. Billboard Top 10.[16] Led Zeppelin are ranked No. 1 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.[17] Rolling Stone magazine has described Led Zeppelin as "the heaviest band of all time" and "the biggest band of the 70s".[18]
PINK FLOYD
Pink Floyd are an English progressive rock band that initially earned recognition for their psychedelic or space rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. They are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art, and elaborate live shows. One of rock music's most successful acts, the group have sold over 200 million albums worldwide[6][7] including 74.5 million albums in the United States alone.[8]
Pink Floyd had moderate mainstream success and were one of the most popular bands in the London underground music scene in the late 1960s as a psychedelic band led by Syd Barrett; however, Barrett's erratic behaviour eventually forced his colleagues to replace him with guitarist and singer David Gilmour. After Barrett's departure, singer and bass player Roger Waters gradually became the dominant and driving force in the mid-1970s, until his eventual departure from the group in 1985. The band recorded several albums, achieving worldwide success with The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Wall (1979). In 1985, Waters declared Pink Floyd "a spent force", but the remaining members, led by Gilmour, continued recording and touring under the name Pink Floyd. Although they were unsuccessfully sued by Waters for rights to the name, they again enjoyed worldwide success with A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994). Eventually they reached a settlement out of court with Waters allowing them use of the name.

I voted Pink Floyd. Both are great bands, but the fact that Led Zeppelin ripped off a ton of other bands work in their early days and gave no credit makes me go with Pink Floyd. 2 of the greatest bands ever, though!

This match is both perfect and a mismatch. Both are different, but many like both.
Floyd for Sympathy.
If Zeppelin win, they better not go againt the The Beatles next round! The final battle must be you know what.

Mmmm. Once again we find ourselves with two very overrated bands. I'll say Pink Floyd, because they revolutionized what a rock concert should be. They were possibly the best live band ever. And I don't even like them that much. Compare that to Zep, who couldn't do much of anything live because Plant was barely coherent more than half of the time. While it's true that JPJ and Bonham make up one of the best rhythm sections in history, that just isn't enough for me. A band needs a vocalist that can cut it live, and for the most part Robert Plant just didn't cut it.

well who do u think im voting for? led zeppelin hands down. in my opinion, zep is the best band ever. no wait ,2nd bhind the beatles. total mismatch, zep all the way:p
Hey guyz! I'm back.. :D
Well yeah, kinda. I'm grounded =[. But i guess since it is 11-11 i'll have to break the tie. While led zeppelin is major pwnage, the majority of their songs get old after a while. Playing the same thing, over and over and over again gets BORING. Pink Floyd has a wide variety of songs I like, and i enjoy Gilmour's voice more then Plants.
Pink Floyd!

 First niether of these bands where overrated.....lets just get that out of the way. Now as to who should win. Its close but I got to go with Zepplin. Pink floyd had the acid rock down and there shows where the best but led zepplin where influential and rocked out. They where a rare bread that we didn't last as long as some of us wanted but they still rock....its close but Zepplin wins for enspiring some of rocks future stars..

Please be more precise about the word overrated. For exemple, I do believe that certain people love the song Money only because everyone likes it. Others only like Another Brick in The Wall (pt 2) only because it sais "We don't need no education". But this is my all time fav band. I'm not telling you it's the best band ever but I can tell you I'm not overrating them. If you felt what I feel when I listen to Atom Earth Mother, you wouldn't call it overrating. It's just people don't feel the same about the same songs. I don't like AC/DC, I'm convinced it's boring and it always sounds the same, but if you like their sound, well you don't mind it repeats. I don't like the whole overrated wave of threads out there and the trend to use that word everywhere. Few bands or people are overrated, many don't touch everyone. I think Celine Dion is overrated only because I hate her voice, but maybe she's not, I can't say, I don't understand why people like her so I don't have to drag her down with all the pop music. Anyway. I've done that kind of thing a couple of time and I'll do it again, but I still know I'm often wrong when I judge a person's talent.

Definitley not just my opinion. I know countless others that think some of zeppelin's songs are repetitive and stupid. The thing that bothers me is their are about 4/5 zeppelin songs that sound completely alike. While when you buy a pink floyd album, you actually get your money's worth.

I went back and forth a bit before voting. Not a huge fan of either. I like some stuff from both but find the majority of either a bit much. Ultimately I cast my vote for the thieves. Page was one of my first influences in playing guitar and genreally speaking I like a bit more of Zep than Floyd.

tons of people think pink floyd is boring
therefore, pink floyd is boring
also i wouldnt go so far as to say that 4/5 led zep songs sound the same
id say that at least half of their songs follow their "hard rock" style

Zep have about as much musical variety as Floyd, but when you're a diehard Zep fan you start to think you've heard it all; and when the only radio station you listen to plays Stairway and Black Dog every other song it starts to drive you crazy.
Zep are really good, but Floyd are good and a breath of fresh air, so to speak.

Well i always see good reviews off it and The artwork is pretty popular.
but mostly it was just to even out the number of songs to the walls 2 disks
The Wall, is very overrated it was no way near as good as Dark side or Wish you where hear. It get too much praise especially for that movie which just confused me. I dident find anything special about it. It was alot less musically innovative than their earlier works and The lyrics had a very negative, cynical view with almost no change. Was every song in minor?
Led Zeppelin IV only had two good songs "Black Dog" one of their ORIGINAL Blues-Rock songs. and "when The Levee breaks" Because it had a kick ass beat and sick slide guitar and harmonica. Stairway is the most overrated song of all time. And rock and roll was overrated because the Drum intro its pretty much know for was a direct copy of a song called "Something Else" by Eddie Cochran. I listend to it its the exact same thing.

You can have Zep III. However, saying the Wall is overrated? Are you a Mormon? Take a little mind change and try it again. One of the most epic albums of all time.
Led Zeppelin IV is a fantastic album. Tough for it to be "overrated."
the Wall is good, but not as good as everyone claims it to be, the movie is good, but it is prolly the reason (and ABITW Pt2) its so popular
DSOTM is tied for their best album with Meddle
WYWH and Animals tied for 3
PATGOD is amazing too, but most ppl hate Barrett for no apparent reason
and MLOR and Division Bell are better than ppl make them out to be

Well, it always comes down to opinion anyways, so arguing it is futile. What is interesting is though, I completely agree with you on DSOTM and Meddle, however, I also add the Wall to that and all three make my top Pink Floyd albums, with the winner just depending on the mood I am in at the time.

huh... I'm a little surprised that PF is in the lead. Just cuz I thought Zeppelin had a larger fan base... myself included. I do really like Pink Floyd but Led Zeppelin just hits the spot a lot better for me than most other bands... well depends on my mood.

Gah, very tough choice. I choose Zeppelin just because of the influence they had on my musical taste(they're who got me craving heavier stuff, along with Hendrix and Cream. I guess it's appropriate, haha).

In a weaker discography The Wall wouldn't be so overrated, but because Pink Floyd created so many great concept albums, The Wall doesn't deserve the place its given in Pink Floyd's catalog.

I find Gilmores solos way more interesting. How do you think "Shine On you Crazy dimond" Part 1 is so amazing. the solo is perfect. just because its not fast dosent mean its not good. Pages solos get boring quick and he is ver repeditive. I always hear the same licks when he improvises.
once again I have to point out another reason I feel "the Wall" is overrated
Confortably numb is often regarded as having an amazing guitar solo.
But Gilmore has so many other songs that are much better than that performance.

honestly though, i want to know what you find in a good guitar solo
because for me, its feeling, pure feeling, and there is no other solo thats ever come close to the amount of feeling that can be sensed in comfortably numb
i mean, it has no fancy effects, no speed, its pure feeling, and because of this, comfortably numb became the archetypal guitar solo; the example of what a good guitar solo should be

I like those things, too. And I probably enjoy more Gilmour than Page solos. But for the record, there are a lot of players who have those same characteristics as Glimour but can really let it rip when the time is right. There are times when I listen to Gilmour I want him to just let one fly.

I don't agree. Wish you were here is great, but Dark Side of The Moon is far from being my fav PF album. The Wall is my favourite because of the themes, the hard rock/prog/orchestral mix and because it's the best concept album of all time in my opinion. Maybe it's not the best album at all, but every song is meant to follow the one before. You can't listen to only one song from this album. Both are awesome. My favorite Floyd would include "Money", "Wish You Were Here", and most of the radio stuff, but I also enjoy "See Emily Play" and a bit of the Syd Barrett stuff. With Zep I also absolutely love what they play on the classic rock radio stations, but my favorites are "Over the Hills and Far Away" or "Thank You" from Led Zep II.
I voted for Floyd in the poll, but would buy either as DLC gladly.

Looks like Floyds gonna take it...
Biggest shocker of the BOTB IMO...If Zeppeling pulls through, I say they win it all...If Floyd wins, my money is on The Beatles to win it all

Ack! The poll is closed!
I agree that making any comparison between these two A-List bands is almost impossible, or totally ridiculous.
I consider Led Zeppelin to be the ultimate 'rockers' though. Living the rock and roll lifestyle loud and proud. Carefree and wild, and definitely one of the strongest rock influences of the 70's.
I would have cast my vote for Pink Floyd though, because I think their works have actually done more for Music(not just Rock and Roll),art, humanity and philosophy.
Floyd's Live shows are the stuff of legend (I wish I was there :( ).
The Wall is genius on so many different levels, and in so many different ways. If you haven't seen it yet, or haven't watched it in years, I urge you to see it again soon. I watched it earlier in the week, and it's one of those films that gets better year after year.
Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
running over the same old ground. What have we found?
The same old fears,
wish you were here.

Syd just rolled over in his grave...

Choice has never been easier. Iron Maiden. I'm even a metal fan and I prefer them a lot. Except for the singer, I find AC/DC very, very boring.

Seeing as I have listened to all original (LZI-Coda) 85 Zeppelin songs and enjoyed all of them, I'll go with Zeppelin.
I do not dislike Pink Floyd, but I am more of a mainstream Floyd fan, liking WYWH, DSOTM and The Wall.

With Out A Single Thought It Would Easly Have To Be Pink Floyd. Hands Down Hardly A Compotion There. Dont Get Me Wrong I Think Led Zepplin Are Great But It's Just Pink Floyd Are In A Diffrent League. Would Be More Fair If It Was Pink Floyd And The Beatles Then I Would Have A Tough Time Deciding.
