View Full Version : Subscription Based DLC

If it were available, would anyone here choose to pay a monthly rate for access to all DLC? If Harmonix can pump out the number of artists they've made it sound like they would, I'm thinking a subscription would be the best idea. I used to play World of Warcraft for a few years and the whole monthly rate thing isn't that bad (just learn to manage your money, sheesh). Personally, I would really at least love the option of a subscription, or maybe I'd pick one up a few months in when they have a good library of songs to download.

This is already being discussed in this topic (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=4686).

Hell no is your answer. They're conning me out of enough money for the overpriced periphials let alone the potentially huge DLC costs AND a subscription fee...

Wait, I thought you were just getting GH3 and giving up on Rock Band.

Points out that nothing has been annouced about DLC pricing and that Red octane priced the GH2 downloads. Which is funny because they publish GH3.

I thought you said you weren't buying it. How are they 'conning' you out of money, and how do you know the peripherals are 'overpriced'?

I wouldn't subscribe, though. I want to pick and choose my DLC, which is kinda the point. If there's a month of all metal songs, I'd be let down because I wouldn't enjoy any of them. I'd rather just buy what I like and not buy what I don't.

Other way round. Idiot. I want the drumming and singing (if no one can hear me :P), the guitar bit doesn't interest me anymore.

And they're conning me out of the money cos they know that a considerable amount of people will pay a **** load of money as it is, and the UK pricing is always stupidly high.

Idiot.

Wow, he just misunderstood you. No need to be defensive.

I'd blame that on the system (either British taxes, export laws, shipping costs, exchange rate, gaming industry established price, etc), it's hardly something to be angry at HMX for. Especially considering that most of the game is peripherals, I think they're charging a pretty fair price for it. Of course, you can have your own opinion...

Nobody is conning you out of anything. You have a lot of problems with Rock Band. You believe they are charging you too much. My advice is that you don't purchase the game.

You are always complaining about what a victim you are. I've got great news for you; you can empower yourself so that you don't have to be a victim.

If you don't want people to be short with you, don't call them an idiot. If you feel that Harmonix is offering a mediocre product at an unreasonable price, don't buy it. Take control of your own destiny.

I think the idea of subscription based DLC for Rock Band is garbage...those of us who are Xbox Live users already pay 50 bucks a year for the service, we dont need to pay monthly fees for downloadable songs...I say just price each album for 800 points (as much as your average arcade game on XBL) plain and simple...or if you want individual songs just price them at like 50 points each or something...

Well as a PS3 owner I don't have to worry about a yearly fee. I still agree with you though, monthly fees would be ridiculous. Even if Harmonix does put out an album a week, if at anyone time they slow down, I would be pissed, plus they wouldn't make any money with a system like that releasing 1 album a week, they would lose alot of money unless they made the monthly fee like 40-50 a month.

It just seems to me that a monthly fee would drive customers away...something about it...just not right. And yeah, if you paid a monthly fee...and one month they release some sh*tty albums...thats a whole month wasted on nothing.
