Just d/l'ed some gamer pics and a theme for RB a minute ago. The pics are different colo variations of the instrument pictures we've seen but in red, black/white, and white/black. The theme is pretty sweet though. It has illustrations of the instruments in the center, with all kinds of funky flair surrounding them, but each uses the default colors of each blade. The guide b/g is nice. Gray medievil looking flair.

My camera isn't fast enough to take pics of anything, but I'd say if you are dedicated to RB, they're worthwhile.

Thats why I prefer the 360 on looks. The theme presentation, the huge X which brings up the blade (which Sony would never copy. At all. They came up with the idea all by themselves:rolleyes: ). Meh, maybe I won't go for a 40gb PS3... My 360 and Wii are looking mighty fine atm.

Well, I do have a 360, but I would prefer not to pay for wallpapers. And I personally don't think the 360 OS is all that, but whatever.

considering it offers functionality in all games universally I'd say it's pretty good.

You have to purchase wallpapers on the 360? What a rip off! PS3s themes are free. :D

I want the Highway Star trailer on XBL. That way I can watch it on my HDTV in surround sound. :)

This is getting old. 360's aren't cheap either, and a PS3 is relatively cheap when you consider what you're paying for.

And besides, nobody talks about the NES, but do yourself a favor and look up what that cost when it came out, and then convert that to 2007 $.

About $350, for the console + controller + Zapper + Mario Bros/Duck Hunt bundle.

To compare, picking up a PS3 up here in Canadiania would run me about $550 right now. :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NES didn't launch in the US with the Mario/Duck Hunt + Zapper bundle. That came a few years later.

Well I'll be honest, I haven't looked into it in some time, but I seem to remember the launch being a two parter. One was the bundle with R.O.B., Gyromite, and Duck Hunt, and one the bundle without R.O.B. but with the Mario Bros/Duck Hunt combo.

Both had the Zapper and, looking at the box I have in my closet, two controllers. Oops. ;)

Sort of.

When the system launched, it was a two parter. One had the R.O.B. and the game to go with it, and whatever else. The other was just an NES with a controller (or maybe two, I think). The whole Zapper/Duck Hunt bundle was only a replacement to the R.O.B. bundle, after it did not sell well.

Then again, things may have been different in Canada. I'm not sure.

Anyhow, in 1985, the non-R.O.B. version was $199 US, which is roughly $350 US in today's money.

In any case, I don't think people can complain about the price of a PS3. If they stripped it down to put it on par, features-wise, with the 360, they could clearly match the price. And besides, nobody on these boards should be complaining about the price of a PS3 if they are happy to throw down $170 on a single game.

It's like a buck. It's really no big deal.

Not to mention PS3 owners really should get free content. That's a hell of an investment just because you're taking quite the risk on unproven technology.

PS3 owners I salute you!

As far as the console costs go, I got the 360 for $400, plus the wifi adapter for $100 (ripoff) and a year of Xbox live $50, so my total is up to $550, though soon I'll have another $50 charged for Xbox live which would bring my total up to $600, and on top of that I have a smaller harddrive than my PS3, and no Blu-Ray, and lacking solid state media slots, and short a couple of USB slots, and no HDMI.

Yeah, my PS3 was a better deal as far as hardware goes, it just needs some games, though with Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank coming out soon I'll be satified with my PS3, though I have been mostly using it to play Final Fantasy XII lately.

Oh, and I'm not a big FPS fan.

But yeah, thats my viewpoint on the whole subject.

I'd like to eventually pick up a PS3 for the RPG library coming out, and a few other games, but I can't justify paying as much as the 360 (or even slightly less, when I finish getting everything for the 360 for online play) for a system that's just going to sit there and look pretty until Disgaea 2 or Suikoden VI come along. ;)

I was excited by the prospect of the cheaper 40 GB model, but seeing them blow it with backwards compatibility as well as Sony backpedaling on almost all of their 'core values' is really turning me off of it.

I have a feeling I'll do what I did with the PS2 -- buy the games that interest me, borrow a friend's console to play them when he's not playing it/out of town, and then pick one up a couple of years down the road when the price is a little more reasonable or I can get it for a decent price used.
