3 songs stick out in my mind in guitar hero 2 which should have had rhythm instead of bass
the trooper by iron maiden, and them bones by alice in chains, and the awfully covered beast and the harlot by a7x
if im not mistaken the usually just combine lead and rhythm with the exception of a few songs, but it would be nice to have a 3 options instead of 2 anyone else agree?

I want a 4 guitar version of Freebird. That should tell you what my opinion is on this.

LMAO a 4 guitar version of Free Bird would rock... would get a little old playing it, but would rock.

I definitely think at the very least there should be an option for Bass or Rhythm for Co Op. there are way too many songs that have awesome second guitar parts but there was only bass instead.

That would add another order of magnitude of work to the note charting process (easy, medium, hard, expert, and 2 player charts).
Plus it would also reduce the available song library since all songs may not have rhythm parts or may not have *good* rhythm parts.

To which they could just apply bass.
I think the idea of giving the second guitar player not playing lead the option to play rhythm or bass makes perfect sense.

I think the idea of Dragonforce in GH3 playing one lead is just stupid. People will be thinking "omg dragonforce lead guitarist must be godlike". No he's not. He's a cheater who's got another lead to help him.

this was discussed in the features you'd like see thread correct? I too echo the cries of a three player guitar mode in rock band.

Dude first of all shut up about Herman Li and "cheating". They have two leads. Iron Maiden has four but nobody *****ed about them. It's just because they're insanely popular, and it's annoying I agree, but if you're gonna ***** get your facts straight.
But a single guitar playing Through the Fire and Flames is illogical.

I Believe in if you're playing Guitar in RockBand it splits into Rhythm sometimes like in Reptilia

i definitely agree. this has always been an issue with me through the GH games. as much as id like to think bass will be fun, it almost always isnt for me. too repetative and boring. obviously, some of the rythmn stuff will be too but at least itll be more than 1 note. there are a ton of songs out there that have much more interesting rythmn than bass lines. if they really want the full band effect, they should have it as an option

Dude have you even played Ace of Spades, Frankenstein, Higher Ground, Billion Dollar Babies, Bad Reputation, Push Push (Lady Lightning), Carry Me Home, YYZ, Psychobilly Freakout, or Jordan on bass?
Bass is no joke.

Pay for a note chart? Hellz no!
For free? Well then why not put it on the disc?

I think they mean songs with rhythm tracks available as DLC.

Hmmm, yes, but the problem with Iron Maiden is that they have one of the best bassits in the world, Id rather not miss out on some awesome bass lines (such as your example, the Trooper) and just have both guitar parts molded into one. The games already suffer from a lack of decent bass lines.
On other songs though, like Hangar 18 - where bass is rubbish - Id rather have the second guitar (not just rythmn!! why not two leads?????)

I was disappointed by The Troopers bass line. It was pretty repitious. I would much rather have two leads for that. MUCH! Iron Maiden has a above par bassist but not great enough that I'd take bass over rhythm or second lead.
The fact that we have different taste on the issue really should drive home the justification of choice.

Kinda,
I mean rhythm tracks for the songs that are already on RockBand available as DLC.
I thought that since the bass player doesn't even have career mode that he should be able to have the choice between bass or rhythm. But everyone says that its too late for that, which it is. So, why not have it available for DLC?

He wouldn't be the bass player anymore if he were playing 2nd guitar, would he? :p
Honestly, there are very few songs that I better rhythm guitar parts than bass, and in those cases it's usually referred to as 2nd guitar rather than rhythm. I'd really rather have the 2nd player be bass all the time. It just makes more sense like that.
As far as bass being boring, I tend to find that the people who think this also tend to like music that, for whatever reasons, has crappy or simplistic bass. I've noticed some people who don't like classic rock, then claim that bass is boring. It might be boring in the music that you listen to, but not everywhere. I'd rather have good songs with bass instead of having the option (or even worse, being forced) to play rhythm guitar. If I wanted to play guitar, I'd play lead...

Push Push changed my life on bass, I'm still looking for tab since I suck at mimicking by ear.

what they should have done is have more than four player compatibility, that way you could have:
Singer
Lead
Bass
Rhythm
Drums
Chorus/Backup singer
but I guess it'd be a pain the ass to cram that on a screen

Also a pain in the ass to code. You've got 2 more tracks to write note charts for. You also have more QA for the various instrument combinations (has to work for vox, chorus, lead bass AND for bass, drum, rhythm, lead) and differences between songs (what happens if you try to play rhythm on Tom Sawyer?).
More work than it's worth (do you REALLY want to sing chorus?).

you don't have to play rhythm if theres no rhythm in the song then.
And yes i would like to sing chorus or backup
This is a good idea for System Link, and possibly RBII.

I'm talking from a coding and gameplay standpoint.
What if you select rhythm guitar and then try to play Tom Sawyer? The game could break, since there is no rhythm part. Hence, extra coding and testing to ensure this happens.
And I'd like to sing backup for Gimme Shelter, but not when I have only 5 words the whole song. Why spend extra time creating another note chart and system to handle it when few songs would even utilize it, and even fewer be fun?
