View Full Version : If there were a bass mini-career

What would it be? Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that out of the 45 main songs there was a 20-song mini-career for bass. What songs would you pick and what tier would you put them in? My goal is to get some form of consensus on the 20 songs with the best bass parts, then organize them into a career to at least make us bass players feel a little better and give us something to progress through. We'll see how this works.
Make some suggestions and we'll try and make a full list everyone can agree on. I'll start things off and edit as we go along.

Hmmm, seeing as the difficult edge of bass is endurance and keeping a constant rythmn, Id have to say some of the longer songs (not necessarily technical) should be at the bottom, e.g. Highway Star and Won't Get Fooled Again. Songs like Tom Sawyer definitely need to be around the mid-high tier to give us a bit of fun with the bass while perhaps making it harder. Standard bass songs which don't have much variation should be at the start.
You need to add Paranoid to that list, Geezer Butler is a great bassist.
Perhaps bring in some songs on DLC to pave the way for a bass career? There are plenty more artists out there with excellent bass.
Oh, and if its really too easy, maybe add a small feature where the bassist has to sing the chorus to some/all of the songs, or maybe make it some kind of on/off option. Many bassists are backing singers or even lead singers (e.g. Rush or Slayer).

I'd personally enjoy a full bass career very much, difficulty is irrelevant IMO. But as the above poster said, Paranoid should be in there. (And Go With the Flow. XD)

Assuming people think a full career would still be fun solo, I'll add it. Some of the songs though are straight 8th notes whole way through, or have huge periods of rest (Maps, for example). Paranoid has been added, adding GWTF, as well.
Edit: I've arranged the current songs into tiers. They'll probably need to get moved, let me know what you think.

Oh, uh, Go With the Flow was a joke... >_>

Well, it does have a decent fill. Assuming they announce more songs with decent bass (DAMN YOU HARMONIX!) GWTF will probably be one of the first to be cut.
Still better than I Wanna Be Sedated and I Love Rock and Roll, though ;)

just add a whole career. i don't see why not. it's up to the player if it's horrendously boring and useless.

I'll add a tier 0 and -1. That way there's a mini-career of the somewhat interesting bass songs, and another two tiers for the completionists/people who REALLY like playing quarter notes ;)
