DLC help

Hi all, hoping you can give me an answer regarding DLC. I haven't got broadband where i live but i can get my xbox to someones house who does.

If i download rock band songs do i have to be logged in to xbox live to play them or can i take my xbox home fresh in the knowledge they will work?

If you take your whole console there to download them, they'll work fine offline. If you only take your hard drive and put it on someone else's console, then you must be logged in to Live to use them.

ok the plot thickens. I bought 2100 microsoft points and took my hard drive to a friends to redeem them. However, when i got it home the songs weren't there...so.... I bought another 2100 points this morning, took my whole console there this time and deleted all the songs and download history off my hard drive (knowing i would have to pay again) BUT, they wont let me pay again for songs i've already downloaded so hence they still wont work offline ARRRGGGHHH!!!!! Is there anyway to do this??
