I'd have to say that even though I don't really like the song, the intro to Get Well Soon by Reggie and The Full Effect is awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4zuAv6s804

I'm not sure if it counts due to the fact that it's half the length of the song, but Spitting Out The Demons by Gorillaz also has an epic intro.

****in Little Wing.

Hendrix's fans now it is the best GUITAR intro ever.

For all instruments though, I would have to say Foreplay/Longtime.

Oh and who could forget the awesome intro to Number of the Beast? My favorite song intro of all time. That long scream rules. I wish it was in RB so I could see people try to pull that off.

My favorite vocal intro is Underground by Ben Folds Five

But my favorite guitar intro has to be Little Wing or Voodoo Child (or Voodoo Chile if its SRV)
Both are classics especially when you compare Jimi's originals to SRVs'. They both rock in different ways.

Echoes by Pink Floyd

It's just one note at the start, but once you hear it, you know you're in for 20 min of pure amazingness.

and Speak To Me/Breath

The heartbeat that gets louder and louder and all the people talking and the sound effects going along with it and then wham! The song starts. You feel such a great release of tension after that and it feels soooooooo good.

I really like that gentle instrumental that opens The Light That Blinds.

Unfortunately, that's the only part of the song I like. Too bad the whole song wasn't like that.

Some of my favortites:

Metallica- For Whom The Bell Tolls (What can I say, everyone's heard it. It just gets you so ****ing pupmed.)

Cream- White Room (The intro has a great ora to it. Ginger Baker makes you feel like you are fighting your last battle.)

Bruce Springsteen- Thunder Road (Probably my favorite intro. It begs you to listen to what Bruce has to say. And it makes you feel so free while on the road.)

Jimi Hendrix- Little Wing (Such a great intro to a fantastic song.)

The Who- Love Reign O'er Me (As the last track on Quadrophenia, the intro to this song is perfect after listening to the whole album. You can feel the come down and you want to break free.)

"Perfect Strangers" by Deep Purple.

Quick, simple, to the point. You don't ALWAYS need epic shredding and chord progression for a good intro.

Musically, I would actually cast a vote for 'Crazy on You' by Heart.

And while I'm not sure how we're defining intro, 'One' I think certainly sets the tone for the meaty goodness.

How about 'Milk' - Anthrax? I mean, how can you expect such silly lyrics after the first three sections? Plus it intros the whole album.

Frantic - Metallica (St. Anger has a great into but since you know what's coming after it... ugh)

Blind - Korn...

Bass intro to Bullet in the Head is great.. though it's mostly because you know you're about to hear Bullet in the Head. :)

The little monologues at the beginning of Jesus Built my Hodrod - Ministry.. or Body Count - Body Count

Long Intros.. or long build ups..
The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys - Traffic
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane (the song is really just one long build up)

Actually, truefully, one of the best ramp-up intros of late is Simon Says from Pharoahe Monch... MMM at the Beasties concert a few weeks back started introing a song with the longer version of the intro there.. and you could feel the general disappointment when the hook didn't come and he mixed into something else. You could hear thousands of people sighing... I don't care for the lyrics, but that beat is great. It'd be like playing the intro to Seven Nation Army and then not hearing Meg's drums come in.
