I am a classic rock fan, and I want to see if I'm missing out on any modern music. I also like New Wave, and 80s Alternative which might help. No Emo, Nu Metal, or anything with screaming.
So far, I've found 2 songs I liked
The Bravery - Unconditional
The Arctic Monkeys - Flourescent Adolescent

I don't mind Angels and Airwaves or OK Go, but they're nothing speciall. well, I'm a big classic rock fan, but I do enjoy some modern-ish-stuff
I like The M's, Clutch (anything except their 1st album), Fireball Ministry (you'll like them if you like Sabbath), Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, The Good The Bad and The Queen, Death From Above 1979, Silvertide, Rose Hill Drive,

Bleh to "Angels and Airwaves". I'm a big classic rock fan too, but too many times have I heard classic rock fans say that anything past '89 is crap. The music scene is totally different now and there's such a variety of music out there that there is a possibility that you'll only like one thing that someone on these forums recommends you.
One of the things that classic rock fans get tricked into doing is listening to the radio. Trust me, just because that's the way your papa found new music, it doesn't mean that you'll like what you hear. For now, I look towards the Interweb! Blogs usually help, but it's tough to find someone that has similar tastes. I personally use http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/ along with other blogs.
Let's see, personal recommendations?
As for 90s, I'd recommend Radiohead, Blur, Primus, Stone Temple Pilots and Red Hot Chilly Peppers. Some of my classic rock friends recommend "Train", and you might like them, but I think they're too much of that "Yee-haw, I'm in virginia writin' about some brown eyed chick" kind of rock.
Some of the more recent groups that I listen to include Spoon, Stratospheerious, Map of Africa, The Slip, and Grand ole party (all of which can be found on iTunes, if you feel so inclined to check them out). Spoon is very indypop centric, Stratospheerious is like this awesome head tripping electric violin rock, Map of Africa is a lot like ZZ - Top mixed with techno and Black Sabbath (Download "Gonna Ride" and you'll see what I mean), The Slip started out as a sort of Fusion band, but now they're more alternative pop, and to a great effect, and Grand ole Party is this sort of garage blues rock band that has this female singer that reminds me of Janis Joplin.
Good luck on your crusade for new music, and remember, no matter how much someone says something sucks ( :Cough: Angels and Airwaves :Cough: ) you never know till you try!

you might like velvet revolver...they have kind of a classic rock sound to them on some of their songs...
I frankly hate them except for She Builds Quick Machines which is a pretty solid song, but a lot of people like them.
also, it may not be your cup of tea, but Tool ftw :)
I love classic rock and I love Tool...but I doubt that will be the case with most people...classic rock was usually laid back and fun to listen to...Tool is very layered and musically complex but it's anything but laid back :P

It's kind of interesting that you disliked Radiohead and like Muse at the same time. Some Muse songs sound a little like early Radiohead.
