This looks promising. You can turn any XLR microphone into a USB mic. The lingering question is with the drivers. I wonder if it will work with my XBox?

...and here is another one I found.

Says it doesn't need drivers for XP, so no reason why it wouldn't work

Having said that, for $40 you could buy a pretty decent microphone anyway.

I already own an SM58 that I would love to use. This looks like the ticket!

I have the Mic Mate and a Shure SM58. It works for the PS3. The only issue is I have to crank the sensitivity and volume all the way up and increase the volume on my center channel to hear myself sing. Also, it sounds good and makes the tinny vocals go away. Far more responsive to change in pitch to. That said, I haven't been able to use it much yet (just tried it out on a couple of songs.)

I can now say that the MXL Mic Mate Dynamic does not work with the Xbox 360. Very sad. It's a nice piece of kit. Works fine with my Mac though, so I'm thinking about keeping it.

The Lightsnake cable is the only device of its kind that definitely works with Rock Band from what I've read on the forums. The people who have used it, however, say that you don't get much volume output and you have to max out the sensitivity. A preamp might solve that issue.

I've seen other XLR->USB devices on the market but never seen a post by anyone here confirming that they work.

Make your own. Its quite easy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGqO2ENlgpA)

And since this USB adaptor was designed to work perfectly with Rockband... it works perfectly.

Then you only need an 11.00 cable that will work.... yep... perfectly. (http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Horizon-HZ-Series-Cable-Female-XLR-to-Male-14?sku=336121)

@BTD1980 : Does it still work now in 2010 after all the RB updates and whatnot!? And after trying more songs, what are your thoughts now?

I can confirm that the MicMate Pro works out-of-the-box on the PlayStation 3 system. Pretty awesome, because there is a “Gain” slider, so it’s possible to reduce the sensitivity in Rock Band and increase the Gain.

There’s absolutely no setting to do or whatever, it’s just a matter of plug and play. 5/5.
