GHIII Demo on December OXM's disc.

Someone over at the Xbox.com forums just got the December issue of OXM today.. and was surprised to find the demo for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the disc.


I got the new OXM and was really surprised to find a GHIII demo inside. The game plays a lot different in number III as opposed to the first 2. For example the Hammer-ons are much more responsive and very easy to do (Enough so that I feel like I could pass Jordan if it was in this game. The songs are all pretty easy aside from some parts of Rock You Like a Hurricane and The Metal.

I definately want the full game now.


I have a subscription, but I haven't received the issue yet.

Anyone get this issue yet? It has COD4 on the cover.

well they usually do the mag two months prior to the street release, thats why some info is sometimes way off. idk, he must have some type of connection to get it so early.

heh yea about OXM's magazine scheduel, I remember they had a little spoiler page in their Halo 3 review that said " Don't open until Sept 25!! " (or whenever Halo 3 came out), and it was the November issue :P Made me laugh.

Yea, I get OXM but with no game disc. Is there a way I can pay for just one disc? Or will I probably have to buy the magazine from a newsstand? Or I guess I can just wait for it to come out on the Xbox Marketplace, right?

Go buy a 360 from Costco and return it when your old one is repaired. Costco's return policy is basically no questions asked and very open.

the note charts are a little weird for example in Hit me With Your Best Shot in a sequence it showss double notes that you have to hit when it sounds like it should be a long note

I work at GameCrazy in Dartmouth, MA(just to let any locals know so they can play it too) and we just got the GH3 demo(Friday). I stopped by to pick up my check, and there it was, the beautiful black les paul (unfortunately it was wired).

You guys obviously know all the songs, but Rock you like a hurricane was my favorite to play.

Hit me with your best shot: I played it once, and wasn't really paying attention to the note chart, or even the notes at all because I think overall as a song, that its pretty lame, but it was pretty fun. The song is really easy, but the solo is surprisingly technical, but not really difficult.

The priestess song: Yea, I know, Ive been following GH3 very closely, but I'm still not sure about the name of the song, or who sings it. All I know is that it involves Priestess.... I think......

..o yea, this song i alright.

Even Flow: I like this song, and I liked to play it, so its good. My second favorite, and has the second hardest solo(which i 100%, but its still pretty hard, i just pooped on it).

Rock you like a hurricane: Yea, this song kicks so much ass, and its my favorite song on the demo, and has the hardest solo.

The MetalThis song is pretty difficult, I'd say it might be the hardest song on the demo, just because if you can't hit the pretty much only riff, then you're screwed. The hardest part of the song is the part where its the clean guitar with finger picking, mainly because it kinda catches you off guard.

Yep, so this game is going to be really really good, like most of you know, but I still think Im going to like Rock Band more. One more thing, I 5starred every song and I only played them once, but that doesn't mean that they're easy, I'm just good at the game(I'm trying to say this without sounding like a dick). The only song I played twice was Rock you like a hurricane because its so good, the second time I five starred it and i didn't use star power, actually, I only used star power once, and it was on my first try on Hurricane, and thats because my boss ordered me to, because I had full starpower(he's a high score whore).

I just picked it up at B&N. All the songs are very fun. I fived them all on the first playthough though, except for The Metal, its pretty tough. Keep in mind though, I cant down strum, since my strum bar is messed up.

Yeah basically they took the lead guitar which you are playing and they jacked up the volume on it so you can tell what part of the song you are playing I guess. It really shows on the Dragonforce song. They make one guitar stick out drastically on that 2 minute sneak preview for it.

This kind of stuff can't be changed in options. They just compressed the guitar track so instead of dropping 10dB, it drops 1dB (maybe). I understand why they do it (you need to hear the guitar), but this example seems excessive (listen to the album version at that point, you'll see what I mean).

I guess this starts to make me worry more about Activision not being all musicians. That can cause problems when you make a music game...

They have always done this in all the Guitar Hero's so that you can tell what you are playing. Sometimes it makes the songs sound better, but often with master tracks it makes them sound different and a little weird.

I've looked all over and can't seem to find a confirmation on the date of the demo on Marketplace except for a post saying 2 weeks after Tony Hawk's original release date, which I think was the 9th...which puts the demo at around the 23rd...

Actually Tony Hawk's proving ground came out today. It got pushed back a week. But regardless of that the demo will probably be out early next week is my guess.

This is why I didn't want to get an emotional attachment to any character because with the franchise switching hands I was afraid they they might add/drop/alter some of them.

The only attachment I had was with Izzy Sparks and Pandora in their alternate costumes. Izzy would play lead and Pandora on bass and they went under the name of "Top Hat and Vagina"

Yeah I cared and yes I do look at my characters and my friends and I all would argue over who'd win in fights and stuff (excluding the Grim Ripper because that's just cheating). Of course Pandora always won. :)

But I couldn't not get attached to Pandora after GHII. Her outfit, background, onstage style, and genre were awesome and all felt like me up there because that'd so be me. Especially after playing Less Talk More Rokk. That, Laid to Rest, and Thunder Kiss 65 basically define her.

I loved it. Especially how the lyrics played out with the instruments. Once it slowed down I kind of wished the tempo kept the intensity a bit.

Maybe that's me. I know it was certainly less "rock" than Get Ready 2 Rokk. Totally leaned more to the synthpop.

there is a HUGE difference between playing three chords over an entire song and playing lots of solos and such.. doesn't really matter how the timing windows are. It's the buttons you have to hit, and it's a lot more fun to hit a lot more buttons.

I'm pretty sure that is synthesizer and not guitar, "I Ran So Far Away" on the other hand is definatly guitar (the lead part anyways, the bass is probably synth).

Played the demo on THPG today. They sure didn't put any effort into easy. (Hey I'm playing with a normal controller!) They put some into medium at least.

Good news is they didn't compeltly f it up and it still feels like GH but a different GH. Graphical upgrade wasn't as much as expected though. The window for notes seems so large sometimes it looks like you're hitting a chord when you're not.

I played battle mode at the GameCrazy near my house and on hard with the controller i could beat my friend while he used the guitar on expert...
(it should be noted I'd never tried using the controller before)

The core gameplay is still awesome though!
