I am really dead-set on using my own mics for this game (I need all the help I can get). Has anyone ever used one of these for PC or MAC and know if it uses standard USB audio drivers?
It says it doesn't need drivers on the web-site, but what a product claims and what it does are two entirely different things.
I would love to plug this into my xbox 360 and be able to use it as a usb mic for rockband.
Anyone have any other ideas to get their regular mics piped into the game?

It says right in the description "Plug and Play". They aren't going to lie about it. No reason to. I'm sure it would work fine, don't know about your particular mic though.

I dont think anyone is going to know exact compatibility for sure until launch. My guess is that there will be a period of trial and error and then a compatibility list of sorts will emerge as people test what works.
I recall HMX Chris Canfield commenting on USB Mics before, and I was able to use the search to find his comment:
We haven't tested every possible USB microphone out there, but every one we've thrown at it has worked so far*.
*If it doesn't work, it's not my fault.
Maybe he will see this post and can comment on the specific model. I guess the best answer you're going to get at this point from the uninformed masses is "it may work, but it may not, and no one is going to know for sure just yet. :) "

wow, ive never seen that before. xlr to usb, interesting. i dont think i have a good enough mic to warrant purchasing that just for a game, but if i ever needed to record something id have to look into that.

I had no idea you could use any old mic for the game. thought it was just the official one of the headset. Cool stuff.

Yes!

No.
I hedged my words a little bit because I know people are going to find weird stuff on the streets of Hong Kong and try jamming it in, and one or two of the millions of things out there will not work for reasons that nobody could have predicted.
But if your PC picks it up like a standard USB microphone, Rock Band will too. It sounds like this should work fine.*

I suspect that incompatibility will be so rare that no list will be needed, except for trivia purposes. But I've been around the block enough times to know that once you release things into the wild, the unexpected always happens. So I'll keep using asterisks.
BTW, the Amazon review says that the Lightsnake is incompatible with Condenser and other phantom-powered mics, something which isn't on their site. If you're just using a Shure 58, you should be fine.

One more thing... If someone out here in Boston has one of these things, I'd be willing to give it a try and verify that it works.

It's this kind of stuff that really sets Harmonix apart from other companies. They actually listen and interact with the community. Thanks Chris!
