Am I the only one that would really like to see some hip-hop bands on Rock Band? There are some awesome songs that would work from such bands as:
The Roots
The Flobots
Outkast
Chronic Future
Public Enemy
Gym Class Heroes
Cenospecies
Does the rest of the Rock Band community just hate rap, or are there some people with me on this?

My Short answer is: The game is ROCKband.
Long answer: Assuming the whole theme of the game wasn't an issue, it depends. Every song on Rockband I think as a requirement needs to use all the instruments, but not only that they also must be fun. A 2 second guitar segment is not fun, and the whole game is designed about being in a band. That's why the solo mode sucks so much lol. Rap/hip hop couldn't work because you wouldn't be able to make use of your expensive instruments and it's not a band experience.
But the theme of the game is an issue. When designing the game the targetted demography is rock fans. Someone who hates rock isn't going to buy this game I'm sure.
Maybe they could make a HipHopHero? A mic and dance mat could work.

I had to point this out, but Questlove is one of the better drummers in the history of urban music. I understand what you meant about a mic and dance mat, but The Roots play a multitude of instruments such as drums, keyboard, bass, vocals and an odd array of others that could be used in the game. 99% of the hip hop industry can not be used in rockband, understandably, but there are a select few who could really change the demographic of the game and make some dollars in the process.
p.s. I am a die-hard hip hop head who loves the game (even though I am not a fan of most songs in the game) but playing music is something that I can relate to, and I'm sure most around the world can as well.

Yeah, I am not talking about rap as a whole, I am talking about rap BANDS. Bands meaning they play instruments. Granted the fact that the game is called ROCK Band does mean something I suppose, but I think Harmonix also takes pride in the fact that they offer such variety from Jimmy Buffet to Molly Hatchet.
There are hip-hop fans out there, and the Roots are pretty popular. I think Seed 2.0 would be perfect for Rock Band. Bombs Over Baghdad by Outkastwould be a good choice, guitar solo and all. Public Enemy did Bring The Noise with Anthrax, which would work. Pretty much any Flobots track would work.
I am not saying that rap as a genre would be a good idea for Rock Band, but some songs from certain bands would fit perfectly, and I would like to see it. I don't think I am alone as a hip-hop fan.

I would add N.E.R.D. to that list.
People's excuses to exclude rap/hip-hop BANDS from Rock Band because "it's called ROCK Band" is just plain ignorant. There are many bands that play hip-hop that still rock. Look them up.
Last time I checked Beastie Boys are necessarily classified as ROCK but they are in the game. By this ROCK reasoning, how is this possible?
Also, I agree with beatBOXed that Questlove is one of the best drummers out there, period.
