possible, but unlikely. Making custom charts is hard work, plus you have to put in all the lighting events, animation stuff, venue crap, starpower (or overdrive, whatever) plus u gotta know the BPM of the song and any changes to the BPM and when they happen.
I just cant see it as something that would be made readily available to everyone who buys the game. The dude probably just heard a rumor from a friend or something.

This is why you never get information from people at game stores UNLESS you know the guy personally/ know he's as well informed as you are.
In short, no there will not be custom soundtracks. That would be the RB equivalent of encouraging illegal downloads.

lol, no.......possbily the best way to kill your own franchise. Where is the logic going in people's minds? Why would they do that? If they did, then there would be no reason to buy a new rock band or guitar hero ever again.......the only reason to buy them now is because it takes a lot of effort to make custom songs right now and they (harmonix and neversoft) seem to be able to make good note charts for the songs, compared to everyone (the custom song modders) else's. Its also highly illegal.
The whole question of copyright pretty much says NO to the whole thing.
Oh, and never ever believe what an employee of a shop which will sell you the product tells you about said product - the reason is pretty obvious.

I agree with everyone that you really shouldn't listen to your local gaming boutique employees. However, despite what everyone says, yes, Harmonix has confirmed that they are working on a way to add custom tracks in Rock Band. No idea about Guitar Hero though.

The guy at my GameStop said "Oh, it's been confirmed that the GH3 guitar works for Rock Band". Both me and his manager told him he was an idiot.

Trusting a Gamestop employee with details about video games is like trusting Bin Laden with your nuclear football.
Shame on you for actually believing that guy.

I thought Sean already confirmed that the GH guitar would work with Rock Band, the question I believe is now whether the Rock Band guitar would work with GH
Not that it's a formal authority but it even said so in this month's Game Pro when it did a side by side comparison of the games...

We've really only said it is something we would eventually like to do some day. It certainly won't be in Rock Band 1 or probably any time in the immediate future. There are a lot of hurtles to making it both responsible and awesome.

I believe it's as a result of the rigorous training and study program they must complete before they are certified and licensed...

Ah, yes you are correct...
The hope that they meant GH3 guitars blinded my comprehension of his post, you see I have a PS3 and without the cross compatibility I have a 3 man band....

I guess Im one of the few who has a good trusting relationship with my Gamestop peoples...They suggest what to buy and what not to buy...so, yeah. I havent had a problem. I wont be able to trick them into telling me anything because they all know I do my own research. Whatever, they are good friends of mine and I know them all personally.

The guy who works at the local gamecrazy (who is a guy I know, actually) tried to tell another one of my friends that you HAVE to buy the Rock Band guitars, because a GH2 guitar controller won't work for them.
He was obviously lying out his ass, to make business. It's like being a car salesman. Not everything they tell you about the car is true, but that doesn't matter until you've bought it.

Thanks for clarifying Sean. I was under the impression that it was something that might eventually make it into Rock Band 1, obviously not at launch though. I can imagine that there will indeed be a lot of hurdles as many people will try to put songs on there in a way that wouldn't exactly be legal.
