My daughter was in a 'demo' video for this game. They filmed it in Portland, OR this past summer. It was supposed to show at the Leipzig convention. They spent several days working through the 'Radiohead / Creep' song.

If anyone knows where I can get / view this video Id appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks.

Wow, first I've heard of it. I did see some footage official stage demo but none of it had Radiohead's song in it, sorry.

This wasn't one of the 'tour bus' videos. They commandeered(sp) a local bar with a stage, filled the place with (literally) truck-loads of cameras, lights, props and such.. they even brought in 'fake fans' to scream and cheer. Some of it was filmed with them playing the game. Most was them 'performing' to the music. It was quite a thing...my introduction to being a 'stage parent'.

That was awesome, I saw it right before it went to Leipzeig. It was just really fun. I'm not sure what rights we have to show the video outside of Leipzeig though. I'll see what I can find out.

If there is *any way* for me to get a copy I'd be most appreciative. They did pay her (my daughter) for the work so we're square on that.

I'd pay for a DVD if that's what it takes. What 'rights' issues are at stake here?

It's possible they didn't secure the rights to distribute the music contained within the video outside of the purview of the Leipzig event, just like they aren't licensed to show a number of the songs for promotional purposes (even though they appear within the game.)

Dang! Id happily sign a release and a 'will not distribute under penalty' and so forth. Is there some way for me to find a name / ph# / email for someone in the company who can help me with this?

If you can't get it right now, i'm sure you could once the game actually comes out. then it wouldn't really qualify as promotion, since it would be nothing new for people to see.

ethrbunny mentioned his daughter got paid and that this was a big production with a budget to it. Securing music licenses is a tiny part of the entire production. If his daughter acted in it and got paid it would have been just for use in Leipzig, if they showed it anywhere else or distributed it on the net then its possible that they're going against actors contracts.

As for attaining a copy of the video, try finding out the production company that produced the video, the info would be on whatever documents your daughter got. I spose it could have been produced by MTV? Might be tricky.

If its such a big thing like an advertisement or demo, won't it eventually reach the public anyways?

Harmonix might end up having to send you a video without an audio track. I really doubt they have carte blanche rights to distribute an audio performance of Radiohead's Creep.

There were people from MTV there. I don't think that contracts for the 'actors' will be an issue though... they were all girls from 9-14 yrs old. No professionals in the group.

How is it different from what they are doing on 'the bus' or in the game? Im ignorant of the ins/out here.

They specifically secured rights for the songs shown on the bus tour videos. So if you're daughter was singing 'Epic', 'Wanted Dead or Alive', or 'Suffragette City', for example, you would probably be in pretty good shape.

From what Harmonix has publically distributed, however, there aren't any indications that they are allowed to distribute public performances of 'Creep'.

But anyway, keep working the back channels. The Harmonix guys are real cool, and you might find someone who will do you a solid. It's just that if you or your daughter sticks it on YouTube, there could be major ass-kicking.

Dang - Ive spoken with Harmonix 3x now over the last several months. No one will even call me back and tell me "we can't release this".

Frustrating.
