If you're taking on the manly role of being bassist in Rock Band, there are a few songs that will have you smiling. One of the best is "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys. The ultimate bassline in Rock Band, though, is in a song which IGN will reveal next Monday. You'll never in a million years guess the song (we promise), but it's considered one of the most difficult in the game and nearly ended the Ignorant Sluts. The bassline is the sickest we've played in Rock Band.

even though i don't believe that hysteria would be considered the ultimate bass song(i can play it pretty damn spot on, and I'm not very good at bass at all), I would love to have to song in the game, one of the songs that i wouldn't mind singing.

You have to give them a little credit though. I mean, they're video game editors. They're not supposed to be the most charismatic people on the planet. I give them props for willing to video record themselves and publish it on one of the biggest gaming websites out there. No one else is really doing that.

And for sure, IGN has had the biggest crush on Harmonix for a while now. I dig it.

Very true considering IGN's ignorance on C&C I wouldn't be surprised. I do hope it's one of those two bands though, especially Muse. And if it is in fact Hysteria I would probably assassinate a bunch of people just to get my hands on the game.

Now that you mention that, I seem to recall reading an interview with someone from Harmonix in one of the gaming magazines (can't remember which one or who specifically it was with) around the time GH II came out for 360 and they mentioned something about having some Yes master tracks "just lying around."

My picks for the for the bass song?

Going from memory (so forgive me if these are particularly easy bass parts, they're just standouts to me), and ignoring the previously mentioned Primus/Muse picks...

a) Queen - Under Pressure
Partially because I want a Queen song, but also because it's a highly recognizable tune and Queen was signed to EMI, which is on the Rock Band bandwagon. That being said, it's fairly predictable, so it probably won't happen.

b) James Brown - Make It Funky
Catchy, although I don't know if it's particularly challenging. This could be a strike against it. Still, the song has decent parts for all three instruments, and James Brown vocals? Yeah. It's an oddball and unpredictable pick (James Brown in Rock Band?), but hey, James Brown is also under the EMI umbrella, and they said it was one we'd never guess.

c) Gang of Four - Damaged Goods
Wikipedia says these guys were signed to EMI and Warner Bros, so it's certainly possible that some of their catalogue (including the first album, which this is from) could end up here. This has a decent setup for all instruments, and to me, would be a fairly 'out there' selection.

d) The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored
Signed to a UMG subsidiary, and already on board with Guitar Hero, it's not outside of the realm of possiblity that they could show up in Rock Band. It's got a memorable and prominent bass part, and it's a decent song overall. To me, it's not an "unpredictable" pick, but it's certainly a sneaky choice that might not be obvious -- plus this is IGN we're talking about.

e) Pink Floyd - Money
Everyone wants Pink Floyd. EMI is on board for Rock Band. Perhaps not an obscure choice, but an unlikely one? Yeah.

f) Interpol - Evil
Fairly good choice overall. Interpol is signed to an EMI subsidiary in Capitol, they seem like a fairly straight forward pick for the game to me, but they feel 'obscure' and 'oddball' enough that IGN would classify them as something we wouldn't pick as a prediction.

Others that I don't have time to ramble on about because my drive home is about to leave: Queen - Dragon Attack, Oasis - Go Let It Out, King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man, Yes - Roundabout (or, less likely, Sound Chaser), Led Zeppelin - The Lemon Song, The Beatles - I Want You (She's So Heavy), Cream - White Room, Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Although, Yes, King Crimson and Zeppelin are signed to Atlantic, and I don't think Atlantic is supplying tracks, so I'd be a little surprised to see them. Cream's also not under the UMG subsidiary that signed on, so they're a meh. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. ;)

Personally, I'd also like Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart, but their label isn't on board as far as I can tell. :3

if you watch the entire live vid you'd understand why this needs to be in RB somewhere at somepoint. It perfectly alances every instrument(though the vocalist doesn't even start till 4 minutes in(the vocals are pretty tough too).

well there's plenty of dream theater where the keyboardist isn't all by himself. and his solos usually aren't that long. You also forgot about there awesome bassist. Change of seasons has a bunch fo awesome bass parts to it.

You'll never in a million years guess the song (we promise), but it's considered one of the most difficult in the game and nearly ended the Ignorant Sluts. The bassline is the sickest we've played in Rock Band.

There's a few songs from PR that I wouldn't mind, "She Loves Me Not" (Dave's drums are awesome in that one) has been a fave of mine since it got leaked just after Infest came out (My band at the time was going to cover it just to say we covered a Papa Roach song before they even did lol), and I generally liked "Binge" and "Revenge In Japanese" (the pre-Infest version), as well as a good portion of Lovehatetragedy, which had some better oldschool songs.

And hell yes to The Cramps.

This isn't true. I haven't been reading it for years, but there are times I'll check it periodically throughout the day, and they throw new stuff up at random times. They don't just sit at a desk typing up new stuff all day, and then upload it all at once at 5pm PST before calling it a day.

Just go to any of the main systems pages (ps3.ign.com or xbox360.ign.com) and scroll down to Latest Updates, and you can see things posted throughout the day.

No, I feel the blame lies fully with Harmonix. Had they not gone and decided to make this 100% awesome game, then none of us would have felt like we had to refresh IGN every 20 seconds all day long (which was quite a ***** on dial-up let me tell you).

As it is, I need to leave about now...and won't be able to check again until late tonight...oh well. Hold down the fort for me, all...

I should have been more clear. Press releases, pictures, etc, are usually posted throughout the day, but the major articles (high-profile previews, reviews) almost never are.

Well, yesterday someone posted the new video before anyone posted the article. So I think maybe IGN updates the videos first? And by first, I mean half a second before the article.

Anyway, your best bet is just go to ps3.ign.com or xbox360.ign.com and scroll down to the part titled "Latest Updates" (it's in the middle, halfway down the page). It should appear in there at some point.

I would not be surprised to hear about foreplay/longtime and next to you as they are not officially announced yet, someone has only seen them on the back of the pre-order box.

Not to rain on any parades, but just because songs are leaked from pre-order box pics, doesn't mean that the major news outlets report on that happening. The songs will still be announced officially at some point as if they are still new to everyone. That's the small price you pay for finding out information from places like pre-order boxes. You know some of the announcements before they happen.
