So there are some rumors floating around that on the 18th of this month the ps3 will receive a firmware upgrade that allowed IN-Game XMB (finally) one of the things that the rumors are pointing to though is the inclusion of in game video chat. Please take a moment to think about how much awesome will be packed into full in game video chat with rockband.

Well, first, as you yourself indicate, it's a rumor about an upgrade to the PS3 itself; even if the rumor is correct, then it would have to somehow get incorporated into RB. Considering some of the other features (such as voice chat) people have lamented missing from the PS3, I wouldn't expect this to appear.

I actually don't see this as being an awesome option either. In RB, I'm usually too busy watching the notes and guidelines to even look at the characters, much less a small portion of the screen with a video pointed at some person whose face is mostly expressionless because they're focused on not screwing up. Maybe if it only popped up at the end of a song above where everyone's percentages and such are displayed.

That would suck.

I'm sorry, I mean, I REALLY hope PS3 owners do get voice chat, but Video chat would just be a complete mess.

There really isnt enough room for 4 band members and their notecharts/vocalcharts, then you want to throw in up to four video screens? No thank you.

I do hope they can pull off voice chat though, I really do.

Even though I'm a proud 360 owner, and have had it since day 1.

it really depends on how configurable it is, if you can move the window around there is a LARGE section of mostly unused space on the screen that you could put a Video window. Rockband wouldnt need to incorporate anything if it was built into the XMB as a feature that works universally.
I think that many of us are very busy concentrating when playing the game for progression but often when I play in a band I'm simply just playing around. Since we cannot have band world Tour online there is very little motivation to do more than simply stay in the song most times.

Anyhow it will be a feature I will enjoy if it happens. I think that being able to SEE your singer will make up for the fact that we can't hear them.

You XBOX guys are just upset cus we get our network for FREE. I think in game video chat would be cool. Also, I think the concept is that the "XMB" with be available "inside" EVERY game, so the game will not need to be coded to use it...could be really cool...and if you don't like it, I'm sure you can turn it off. :)

You get what you pay for.

I dont know... I still have never liked "In game video chat"... the only time I've ever used my xbox camera was to make a gamercard... and on Burnout Paradise, but I rented that game for like a week... so really, I dont use video.

That's the EU release date. The US sites are pointing towards 6/10.

While I would love voice chat I'm not so sure that video chat is a great idea with RB. The screen is cluttered enough when you have a full band.

I'm still not sure how this is going to work with RB or if RB will need to implement a patch to get it working. Will it only work with those on your friends list or will it work with everyone you're currently playing with?

Until we see something official from Sony there's far to much to speculate about what the new FW update will and will not do.

if it is ingame xmb then surely it would include the ps3's chat function which includes videochat if you want it

as I understand it, the ps3's out of game chat is actually better than the 360s, but that's just what I've been told by people who actually play on a 360

I wish Sony would release something so I'll know whether or not to get a headset or the eye (or both).

I hope that HMX is at least looking into implementing the trophy system. From the articles I've read, the developers have just now received the development package for the FW update. One site said to not expect to see trophies on older games until September, (if the developer decides to implement trophies at all), at the earliest.

I'm sure HMX could have already been working with Sony on a PS3 patch to include voice chat functionality so that it could be released shortly after a firmware patch.

Bad news folks. According to the PS Forums 2.40 will NOT, I REPEAT ---- NOT include voice chat. Sony still has not released anything official.

I was weary of this when it kept being referred to as "In Game Messaging". This means that we'll be able to send text messages only.

As we all know this is NOT going to work for RB.

So, the ball needs to be kicked back to HMX. It's up to them to implement voice chat.

Arrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!:mad::mad:

Yea, 'cause all I need to make my life complete is some twelve-year-old troll flashing me his wang when he loses.

Pass.

I'd rather just have the voice chat. It'd be really nice during the song selection and at the summary screen. How am I supposed to know you just played "More Than a Feeling" 40 times straight last night and don't want to play it again?

I wouldn't want it during the song though as I'm sure people wouldn't want to hear me drop the F word when I totally screw up..... not that I'd do it on purpose... it'd just slip out.... honestly.....

let me tell you guys voice chat is not all it's cracked up to be in RB, you will eventually get some jerk who keeps his mic on and plays the drums with a terrible connection. You hear the "clackity clack" and it is off sync to the music...really annoying. Plus the weasles that sit in the same room and have convos with each other with the voice chat on (yeah I'm talking to you 12 year olds!) It gets really old, I disabled mine.
