Hey, there's been a lot of Nu Metal bashings in some other forums I've been to, but I think some of these songs would be great additions to the game. There's like 80 forums saying "Let's have AC/DC, the Beatles, and all these other really good, yet old, bands." Too many old songs like those will make this game too one-sided, and I know that many people like me prefer new-age stuff.
So, I say, let's add more Nu Metal bands. The game can just program in the turntables, or maybe even make another instrument (fingers crossed). Either way, the following bands should definitly be in the game:
Linkin Park
Disturbed
System of a Down
Taproot
P.O.D
Staind
Deftones
What do you guys think?

If you want nu metal, you can't forget the nu metal godfather's, Korn!!! They are one of the greatest bands. Most would argue that fact, but what other ,current, band has influenced other people as much as Korn. I don't mean See You On The Otherside either. I'm talking Follow The Leader, the EP, Issues, that's what I want to see.

You can burn. Repeatitive drum, bass, and guitar lines a good game does not make unless they're early on.

Yes they are repetitive, but certain songs would still be great on this game.

First of all this game is not only for guitar. So it really wouldn't get too repetitive, think of the vocals. What nu metal lacks in guitar it makes up for in lyrics. Think of Korn, they have some insane lyrics. Not only that, but drums too. Slipknot has one of the greatest drummers of all time. You'd think that there would be some difficulty to that. Also, the bass. Korn has some really great basslines. And I dunno if you would consider Mudvayne nu metal, but they have a great bassist. Just listen to Happy? or Dig. You can hear how awesome those basslines would be. I'm just saying nu metal would be exciting to play. However, not all nu metal would be.
Kutsic

Well, to start off with, I don't consider numetal a real genre, never have, never will. Aside from some VERY basic elements, no two numetal bands really sound even the least bit similar.
That being said, a lot of "numetal" bands have some extremely talented musicians and make some very complex and original music. Especially now that the numetal fad has died and the bands are searching to expand on their styles.
Archangel_of_Light
06-15-2007, 02:07 AM
You may not consider it, but nu metal is a genre. It combines elements of rap and metal. How else would you catagorize such music. Rapcore? No, not likely. As for the "least bit similar" comment, you're correct. They don't. That is what makes that genre so awesome. You got two basic elements, Rap and Metal, in one song together. Yet they implented in tons of differents ways by many different bands. Some bands just may use the simple, repetitive riffs, others may actually use the rap type vocal in a song. I know I'm missing some other things, but that all pretty much adds up to all kinds of different sounds that almost never get tiring.
You're right about the rest of it. The fad has died, and the bands are doing other things musically. But that genre was a major staple in the recent history of music. So it's only natural that some music from that time should get recognition. I'm not saying a lot, just little. So why not put a little in this game. Game wise, I believe it would overall be fun.

06-15-2007, 04:58 PM
I would love to see numetal in the game, Slipknot and Linkin Park are two of my favorite bands. And the reason I don't really consider it a genre is because, I don't see elements of rap or metal in a lot of so called numetal bands. But maybe that means that lots of bands that shouldn't be classified as such (much in the same way that Cradle of Filth is called black metal simply because of their appearance, and the way Slipknot is called death metal simply because they're the heaviest thing the mainstream has heard in a long time) are called numetal.
But yea, it'd be great to see the music in Rock Band, because not only did it basically rule the world from 1998-2002, but when it's done well, the music is some of the most unique and interesting stuff I've heard.
Bloodlust
06-15-2007, 06:53 PM
This is a game about guitar, drums, and bass... vocals too... OK, the rapped vocals might make for a unique experience, but numetal is a genre dominated by DJ instrumentation and samples. The guitar lines are usually all the same, as are the drums and the bass dominates. It's pointless if you ask me.
Archangel_of_Light
06-16-2007, 11:44 AM
You say that numetal is "dominated" by DJ instrumentation? I guess you have never listened to Korn's EP. Korn are the so called godfathers of numetal. Not until recently have they began using any kind of DJ instrumentation. The song Blind is one of the most known songs of the numetal genre. All they do there is guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Their hip hop influence comes from Fieldy, the bassist. He writes his basslines based off of hip hop beats, and they have had rappers come on and rap along on some songs. Numetal is also alot about the vocals. Almost every numetal band has really great vocals, in terms of lyrics. They reach deep. That is why numetal was so big. People could relate, and they had really catchy riffs. It wasn't the fact that they had complicated riffs or drum lines. Though some of those bands had really great musicians, like Joey Jordison of Slipknot.

Korn has nice vocals, and their early stuff (which I actually think was pretty good) would make for good beginner songs on RB, but Korn is easy to play. They lack the intricate inner workings of true metal songs, and that's my main gripe with those guys. Slipknot has nine members, and the common cop out for their lack of talent is Joey's talent. Dude has talent, I admit, but he doesn't use that talent in Slipknot.

How about some plain old Modern Rock. I'm not talking the punk/emo/screamo or whatever you call it like MCR, Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco. I'm talking ROCK. Bands like Seether, Three Days Grace, Evans Blue, Trapt, Finger Eleven, 12 Stones, etc. Yes, alot of the guitar work isn't necessarily mind blowing, but most of these bands have at least a few songs that would work great in the game, and they all have good vocals that are sung rather than yelled/screamed or whatever.
But while we're on the numetal topic, I'd like to throw in Nonpoint as a contender. They have a lot of interesting guitar rhythms and some great bass songs (Alive and Kicking comes to mind), as well as interesting drum patterns. The only problem would be the vocals which tend to be more of a yelling than a singing I guess.

06-22-2007, 03:15 PM
Tool, yes. But they aint nu-metal.
KoRn, maybe. But only very early stuff. And by early stuff I mean self titled and Life is peachy. After that it got too same-y throughout the song.
Mudvayne, maybe. Again only early stuff. Early stuff is LD50, that was some technical playing. After that it got wanky and more radio friendly.
More old school metal is needed.
And that's Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, [pre-Black] Metallica, Sepultura, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Exodus, Sabbath, AC/DC and the like.

Half of the people in here are probably little 10 year old boys whos balls havent even dropped yet and havent waken the **** up yet to here some good music, take Mrblonde for example, who thinks he can save the world one post at a time.
I would like to see more metal in Rockband...cuz it actually takes skill to play metal, unlike Linkin Park who records one riff and plays it over and over until my ****ing ears explode. Id like to see some bands like As I Lay Dying, Trivum, or Killswitch Engage. Those bands would totally rock, since the guitar and drums kick major ass and the lyrics wouldnt be to hard to sing.

Well, glad to see my efforts aren't going unnoticed. However, I hate to break the news to you, but I'm not 10 years old, my balls have indeed dropped, and I've been awake for quite a while. As far as I'm concerned, I do listen to good music. You can trash bands like Linking Park and Papa Roach all you want, but you're not going to change my opinion. Actually, I doubt you'll be able to change anyone's opinion when it comes to music. People like what they like, and subsequently, would like to see it in the game. Get over it.
Id like to see some bands like As I Lay Dying, Trivum, or Killswitch Engage. Those bands would totally rock, since the guitar and drums kick major ass and the lyrics wouldnt be to hard to sing.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing some of those bands either. I think a lot of today's metal has some really cool guitar riffs. Take "Six" and "The Light That Blinds" from GHII. They're probably 2 of my favorite songs to play in the game. I just don't really listen to them outside of the game because I really don't like the vocals. I think they're garbage.

I just want to third the nod for Mars Volta. Those songs would be incredible to play on all instruments. Also I think Korn would be fun on guitar and drums depending on the song.
As for the mainstream radio rock (I don't know if I'd say Nu Metal): Linkin Park and such. Even if I don't personally like the music, every extra song they can add makes it even better. Who knows some band you don't like might have one of the best drum or guitar tracks when you play it - even if it's not complicated. I play the RATM, Nirvana, and Megadeth songs the least on GHII even though they're some of my favorite bands (then that might have something to do with the cover vocalist).

The only good nu metal band is SOAD and maybe Linkin Park. I wouldn't mind a couple of their songs, but Disturbed, Korn, Slipknot, and other "bands" have no place in this game. God awful vocals coupled with repetitive instrumentals makes for a lousy show. The only reason people like them is because they are mainstream.
If you want rap lyrics, then include some Rage Against the Machine. Bringing back Killing in the Name wouldn't be a bad idea.

Faith No More is the original Nu Metal band. I think it was based more off of the Sabbath version actually as the singer to me tried to sound more like Ozzy than Mike Patton (Patton is a WAYYYYY better vocalist...fact.)
Faith No More is my all time favorite band, and Mike Patton is my favorite vocalist...I've been following everything he has done since Faith No More (Fans of Faith No More should check out Tomahawk and Peeping Tom.). Most people will only remember "Epic" but compared to their latter stuff off of Angel Dust, King For a Day, and Album of the Year..The Real Thing was only an average album IMO.
While I'd love to see "Epic" on Rock Band, Harmonix should also look into:
Midlife Crisis
Richochet
Evidence
Digging the Grave
Last Cup of Sorrow
Stripsearch
Ashes to Ashes
I love all Faith No More songs but since I think for initial release they are only using radio singles the songs above would be great for Rock Band. As Harmonix starts releasing whole albums I'd love to see The Real Thing, Angel Dust, King For a Day, and/or Album of Year released. I can only hope.
For Nu Metal fans you should REALLY check out Faith No More, it them that all your favorite Nu Metal bands give homage to. Seriously.

Yeah, I wasn't even considering the vocals when I wrote that. The vocal performance is definitely modelled after Ozzy, but I just felt like the solo and fills on guitar could have been straight off The Real Thing album.
Faith No More is one of my all time favorite bands, even the Chuck stuff. Especially "The Crab Song". I have a live version with Mike singing and they played it on the King for A Day tour... the first time I finally got to see FNM live (missed out when they opened for Metallica and GNR, but this was better as they headlined in a smaller venue - just wish I could have seen them with Jim Martin).
My personal fav post-FNM/Bungle Patton work is Lovage (which also made me a fan of Jennifer Charles) and The Director's Cut Fantomas album - having King Buzzo and Mike Patton work together is increbible - just can't "listen" to other Fantomas albums while I drive, even though they're still great. Wasn't so thrilled about Peeping Tom - maybe cause I had the demo years ago and I wore it out.
I'd kill for the entire "Angel Dust" album for DLC. One of my all-time favorites. And yes, those who only know FNM for "Epic" are seriously missing out - come to think of it, "Epic" was playing on the radio when my alarm went off this afternoon.

I wish people would stop whining about which genre "sucks" and which genre "rules".
It's just pathetic really...
Music is music, you either like it or you don't, simple as that.
A lot of people listen to music that I don't like. I don't like that type of music for many reasons, but those reasons are mine and mine alone.
For example I don't listen to any rap music because the lyrics are all about drugs, sex, and violence. (from my experience.. I know someone will come along and post about *insert obscure rapper here* and how he raps about *insert things other than sex, drugs, and violence* but thats not what I hear and quite frankly even if I did, I probably wouldn't like it because it's "fake". It's manufactured computer music that takes no musical knowledge, and is not an art form.
That can be said for any music including Nu-Metal.. For me, the farther away it gets from creative, inspired, technical, or unique, art; the worse it is.

Nice logic. Nu Metal takes skill, but rap doesn't? Good rap takes a lot of skill. I don't like rap, but I can listen to, and enjoy a good rap song. Just because the popular rap is bad doesn't mean it all is. If you judge rap on mainstream stuff, than I'll do the same for Rock. Don't compare the beatles Or Pink Floyd to 50 cent, compare Fall out Boy, or MCR to 50 cent (Not directed to you, just in general)
Think if some uninformed rap fan came on and started flaming on how rock is just about cutting yourself and breaking up with your girlfriend and screaming loudly while playing simple chords (Thats what alot of modern popular rock is about). You would be mad, and you'd show him the good rock.
Nu metal is horrible though. It's the rock equivalent of horrible rap along with modern Pop Rock, And Pop Punk. You could say it's all opinion, but I could bang my fingers on a desk and make noises and say it's music, and it's my right to like it, and it takes skill.

As I recall, The Beatles and Pink Floyd are some of the best selling artists of all time. How are they not mainstream? No, they are mainstream and they ARE good, name some good mainstream rap for me bro.

You'd have to ask someone who knows more about rap, but the older rap was better. I was talking about how those bands are mainstream, but not modern. The mainstream music today is bad in general. Rap was just unlucky that they were developing during this time.
Wait I know one group. Sugarhill gang. They were closer to funk though. Rappers Delight was the 1st hip hop single to become a top 40 hit. Theres plenty more, but I don't listen to much rap. They also made the apache song from that one episode of fresh prince of bel air.

I'd somewhat agree with that, but not all modern music is bad.

Yeah, some of the harder to find groups are good. I'm not really liking alternative that much, but it's decent. I like the Kaiser Chiefs though. And some bands seem to be inspired by Post Punk.
