View Full Version : Beat the game quickly

So i guess i am going to have to beat the game quickly on easy mode or something just to unlock all the songs so i can have more variety when my friends come over. I am bummed about it, but just like in the GH series, you dont have all of the songs until you unlock them and the new venues throughout the tour mode. So if i have my friends over on launch day, we can only really play through a few songs (unless we play through the career mode). But either way, it will be nice to be able to pick up and quick play every song on the game without having to go through the tour mode first, so it looks like i am going to have to beat the game quickly.

I think you'd like just going through Band World Tour with your friends. The game isn't as fulfilling if you play difficult songs first and then find easy ones later on. Better to work your way up.

i agree, but i am not going to be able to have 4 people over at the same time always, so whenever we do get together it would be nice to have every song available. You know what i mean?

I agree I also wouldn't mind having all the songs available but at the same time, there is a bit of satisfaction from unlocking them through career, and getting everything unlocked all at once just isn't as much fun. Also another plus about doing this through Rock Band is you and 3 of your friends can create a band and go through world tour mode and unlock the songs together.

I will, but i wont have them over that much unfortunately. That was what i was trying to get at. So when some people do come over and want to jam, we can have all the songs available. Its no biggie though, i will most likely not sleep from the second i get the game, until i beat it, with one instrument at least...

Hmmm... Is it possible to play the Band career online? Or did they already say no on that one?

How hard can the game be on Medium, or even Hard? I trust you're the seasoned Guitar Hero player?

Probaby be an unlock all code but since it's Harmonix it won't save. Actually more useful in this game with all those clothes to buy.

If you're a seasoned Guitar Hero player, beating the songs on Expert on Guitar to unlock the songs wouldn't take any longer than Easy... :\ Why bore yourself to tears on Easy?

Just message Sean. I seem to remember HMX giving a reviewer the unlock code to tell to everybody. They didn't necessarily want it to be a secret, they wanted people in this kind of situation to be able to play all the songs.

I think it ruins the experience of the game completely. It's more exciting to unlock songs and actually work for them.
Also, no one seem to mention it, but I believe you don't have to have the same people playing in your band all the time.
If you create a band with a certain 4 people, you can have other people fill in when people are missing. So if it's not the same friends all the time, you can still have other people fill in. As long as the original members don't mind missing out.

An 'unlock all' code would be great actually...since I'm having my Rock Band/Birthday party just one day after the release, that way we could have everything available to us just for the party, but yet I won't have to spend release day blowing through as much of the game as I can (and possibly not enjoying myself very much) just to get stuff unlocked...yah, definately going to have to keep an eye out for that...

I'm confused. If you wouldn't enjoy yourself by playing through career to unlock songs. What enjoyment would you get by typing in a code to unlock the songs?
By the time you go into career mode, you would've already played these songs 10 times over because you already unlocked them.

I fully expect to enjoy myself playing through career mode...I doubt whether I would enjoy myself having to do it on a deadline because I would only have 8 hours or whatever to get everything unlocked in time for the party (assuming I'm not able to devote the ENTIRE day of the 23rd to Rock Band considering it is a holiday and will be wanting to spend time w/ family also). I'd rather do career mode on my own terms, so being able to punch in a code to make all songs available for the party would be ideal. At this party, consisting of ideally 100+ people, I'm not too worried about overplaying the songs myself...I'm more interested in making sure everyone else gets enough time w/ the game...I'm hoping to sell a few bundles for Harmonix that day, and maybe even a few 360's.
Sure, I don't know all the details of how stuff unlocks yet, but I want to play through the career on my own terms, not have to compromise difficulty settings and such because I have to get **** unlocked ASAP.

same here. I would like to take my time playing through it, but at the same time, i would like to have all the songs at my disposal when everyone comes over on launch day to rock out with or cock out, and hang out with our wang out....

That's one hell of a party Tog! I'm sure you invited everyone on these boards as well? heh jk.
I guess I understand your viewpoint. I'll probably finish career mode on at least guitar that Friday :D But I won't be rushing through it. Just devoting all my time that day. But my brother and cousin are coming over release day. I'm sure we'll want to play a lot of the songs as well.

I'm lucky to hang with friends once a week(even playing onlien with them is rare). so I'll be making my way solo trhugh world tour on each instrument myself and then jsut roadie it up to otehr peoples hosues when we get a chance to get together.
Just like with GH3 I'll play through on hard(I enjoy expert more but I imagine a few songs my hold me up later in the game) with lead guitar then hopefully be able to just do the rest later in between new DLC.

Heheh, yah. It's my 30th and my father-in-laws 55th, so it's kind of a combo party. I think we have 150 on the invite list total, over half of which will be my wife's family probably, but that's OK, they're a lot of fun and will do their best to rock out I'm sure. I certainly could invite the forum as well, but didn't think anyone would be spending their holiday weekend to travel to middle-of-nowhere, Illinois to a po-dunk town w/ 1 motel, but hey, maybe I'm wrong. I'll see if I can find one of my invites in electronic form....though, if it has the Rock Band logo on it, I own't get in trouble, right? I'm not making money off this for sure...losing money is more like it...heheh.
I did toy w/ the idea of mailing HMX an invite...I should do that...:D

If you're having friends over on Launch day, just do single-player guitar career and trade off. That's what my friends and I did.

I did that for GH2 as well. On RB you'd want to do a world tour, though. No sense buying a 4-player game for a party and only having one person play it at a time...

Beating the game with my friends was my favorite part of GH. Especially the first time.
Now we knew nothing about GH so the soundtrack and such all came as a shock. That's why I want the bonus songs to be secret. I just want bands not tracks.

This is what my brother-in-law and I did when I got 80s... Just alternated through career, and 5* most of them first time through, causing our friend to be amazed, and giving my wife even more of a reason to say I play too much GH. :/
With RB though, it'll be all about Band World Tour though. Hands down.

Don't forget the venues too. Not sure you'd be able to get all 41 in one play through.

I know there was a discussion before. But has it been determined that you don't get all the venues depending on your hometown?
Such as: If you pick Boston, you play in East Coast states only. But if you pick LA, you play in West Coast?

I'm not going to intentionally just play through easy/medium to unlock the songs, I'm going to go through on drums first probably on medium (or maybe even easy since I'll suck at it), but in doing so I will unlock the songs . . . . so, have fun with it while unlocking the songs :)

It seems we have forgotten something.
Wasn't there a screen that had 5 songs only for hard and expert? So you CAN'T play through on easy or medium to unlock all the songs. Though like someone else said not that it goes faster or anything unless you're failing lots.

Actually I would like to see only certain songs available if you unlock them in hard or expert. Hopefully that's true. It makes people who only play on medium try harder and get better. And it also makes those that play on harder difficulties feel more accomplished.

Yeah, but it also alienates the casual players. Leave it at medium or better.

I've seen War Pigs failed at 23% on Easy on in a store demo so I don't really agree with that idea. I always think if you pay for a game you should in some way have access to everything even if you've gotta use a code but there should at least be a code for it (that saves).
For example this GH 3 bullish with the co-op only songs, what's worse is no where in their advertisments for those songs or the game do they mention that and there's going to be quite a few people not able to get those songs. Hitman Bloodmoney is a game that got it right, you have to do well on the levels to get everything but it can all be gotten on any difficulty.

I understand certain people know most of the songs and don't want to go through their least favorite songs and whatnot. But I believe its good they have you go through every song, because someone may not know these songs, and discover some good music. And you may not like a song, but playing over again can cause it to grow on you (or piss you off every time it pops up).

You should be able to get by on Hard if you have Guitar Hero experience (and got up to Expert), without any trouble. That's what I did for GH2 and GH 80s (hell, if I did it on expert, I still wouldn't have unlocked all the songs). I can also understand wanting to unlock it all for your friends, I mean, honestly, I sincerely doubt that I'm going to touch career mode once I get all the songs unlocked, just like in Guitar Hero.
And McFly, although I can understand why you'd think that there should be hard/expert-only songs, that's honestly a terrible idea. Even the people who completely suck at the game deserve to be able to play all the songs in it. If they want to get better at the game, they won't need an extra incentive in the form of new songs. If they don't want to get better, having songs they can't access is just screwing them over. About the only thing it could accomplish is enabling ego stroking, and isn't that what achievements are for, anyways?

The article yesterday seemed to imply that you needed to unlock songs before you could play them in World Tour mode.
Each venue instead represents a tier of activities that you can undertake, from single-song performances to mystery set lists, which can throw any of the previously unlocked songs at you back-to-back.
Maybe this is a typo or I'm misunderstanding it. My guess is that if you do unlock songs in World Tour mode it would be much slower, and likely require you to play the same "beginner" songs multiple times.

I completely understand the desire to be able to throw a party and have everything unlocked.
In fact, if you *do* get the unlock code, do me a favour and e-mail it to me, 'cause my wife and I would like to throw a party too!
In the best of all worlds, sure, it is nice to take things slow and unlock things slowly. But let us be friendly to the casual players. I don't like the idea of the "better" songs only being available to the players who can manage to beat their way through Hard or Expert settings. If me, or my wife, or my guests see a tune is in the setlist, and have a burning desire to jam out to it, what sort of a slap in the face is it to say that we're not worthy of accessing it?!
No, save that silliness for Guitar Hero 3 and the Boss Battles, the PvP combat, and the broken guitar strings.
Rock Band is about harmony, darn it!
So I say bring on the unlock key, 'cause it makes perfect sense for a lot of situations!
... and then simply don't use it when you casually play through your own, personal world tour!

So I'll go ahead and retract my statement about certain songs unlocked only in harder difficulties.
But at least make it they way that you still have to unlock the songs by proving yourself in career mode.
And not even just music games, but this is how almost all games are made. Certain things can't be used in freeplay unless you unlock them in Career Mode, Story Mode, or Campaign.
Sure, have the unlock code for those that want it, but people shouldn't abuse it, because it would take away from the career experience.

I agree. My favorite part about first playing GH was trading off with my friends trying to unlock everything.
