Greetings all.

Day 1 of IGN's Rock Band Week is here. I figured with the overloading of the previous announcement of Rock Band Week on IGN forum, that it's only fair we start one for the ACTUAL first day of it.

TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT(S)
NEW SONG: FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER - Molly Hatchet

Here's the link... Flirtin' With Disaster (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/827/827329p1.html)

TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT(S)
NEW SONG: FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER - Molly Hatchet

Well, that explains two things:

1) Why IGN got to unveil a song (good one, but not great)
2) Why they said that things would get "bigger and better" throughout the week (they didn't set the bar that high)

Haha.

Well, this reminds me of a quote I read from Rigopulos in the October issue of Wired magazine.

"I've always thought 'Highway Star' as a kind of a B, B+; it's just OK. But then you're in the game, playing these crazy eighth-note bass lines, and it's like, holy sh*t this is fun!"

Is it a favorite song my mine? Definitely not. But it looks like it will be fun to play. That's all.

I'd rather have 5 20-page threads than one 150-page thread. Keeps things compartmentalized (this thread talks about Flirtin' With Disaster, next about whatever is tomorrow, instead of both at once).

Rock Band is Flirting with Disaster
Another song revealed.
by Hilary Goldstein

October 15, 2007 - The quintessential Southern rock band is Lynyrd Skynyrd. But one of the most recognizable Southern rock songs is actually by lesser-known Molly Hatchet. "Flirting with Disaster," the title track from Hatchet's second album (released in 1979) is the latest song added to the growing list for Harmonix's Rock Band.

The Ignorant Sluts, IGN's tribute band, had the chance to play "Flirting with Disaster" the other day. Be warned: This song nearly killed us. Listed as one of the toughest songs in Rock Band, "Disaster" will test the strength of every member of your band. Roper, the Ignorant Slut's dummer, nearly broke down in tears by the end of the song and bassist Davey Clay called it "the most ridiculous and awesome bassline of all time."

Keep it tuned to IGN as we bring you new Rock Band stories every day this week.

As many have said, it's certainly not an extremely well known song, but it certainly sounds fun to play. It's ok in my book.

I would guess this shoots down the long rumored "Sweet Home Alabama" unless they're doing that as a DLC track... like the 2 song deal with The Ramones.

I haven't heard of this song, but the doods who made Freebird have instant street cred it my book.

I still think Sweet Home Alabama is out. That was based off a rumor from a single guy that the song was playable at the Gamestop Manager's convention. I've seen a lot of other info come out of that convention, but absolutely nobody has seconded this rumor.

And I think that Flirtin' With Disaster is probably going to fill up the Southern Rock niche for main disc content.

Man, so surprised at the negative reactions here. This song kills, it's a perfect fit and helps fill the void of southern/classic rock that has formed since some of the more recent announcements. Sure, I want bigger, badder bands/songs too, but I cannot fault them for this choice. It is a GREAT song...period.

I say: "Dazed and Confused", "Good Times Bad Times", "Ramble On" or "Achilles Last Stand"

All of those are really popular and are epic for each instrument.

"Rock and Roll" is a good choice in all, but it's length has always bugged me

I've already told all of my "bandmates" that if any of them can't think of anything more original to do other than whoo in the vocal freeform, don't do anything at all. I told them exactly this, "If you go whoo, I will rip out your throat, and shove it up your mother****ing ass!!!" I think I got the point across

You didnt tell me this and ur in our band lol

More like Please let IGN announce Heartbreaker and/or Whole Lotta Love.

More like please let IGN announce ANYTHING LED ZEPPELIN.

Or anything 60's please. The 60's produced the greatest music IMO, and that decade deserves its props. I'm not so much disappointed in the lack of 60's, but I'm actually shocked and confused. I thought the majority of people (with brains) understood the 60's as the greatest musical period of all time. I'm not saying it is, but one song? It's a decent song by a very good band, but I yet to see the greatest bands of all time (or if your a Beatle hater) most ''influential'' bands of all time. E.G. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, CCR, The Doors...

The Beatles are my favorite band, but I don't mind if they aren't in the game. I can play any Beatles song whenever I want on a real guitar, but if Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix aren't in the game, HMX is just missing out on a great opportunity

The 60s will get their due. It's just an unavoidable fact. DLC or otherwise.

I agree. sticking the microphone onto your lips and screaming WOOOOOO is the most annoying way to deploy overdrive ever. At least go "AAAAH" like Ian Gillian or something that's not WHOOOOOOOOOOO

i think that had to be the most uncomfortable thing that happened when playing RB at PAX. The freeform came up and all of a sudden I realized all I can think the to do is go "yeeeeeeaaaahhhhh" or something, haha. Its going to be fun watching how people bring inginuity to this area. I'm preparing my burping skillz now to blow away the competition
