Most underrated era?
The modern era. It gets so much crap, but people just don't realize what you can find beyond the veil of the radio, there are so many solid underground releases and they just get better and better.

Cowboys from Hell by Pantera is often considered an 80s album even though it was released in 1990.

Dude. No it isn't. It's definately a 90's album. Power Magic with it's awesome Hard Ride song is an 80's album.

No one ever recognizes 1986. Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood were awesome
The worst year for music was the 1980, no doubt.

I'm sure a ton of albums feature songs written, played live and practised years before the album release. Many are recorded one calendar year and released the next.

Drive-by truckers also released The Dirty South in 04 (one of the most consistant front to back 70+ minute albums ever IMO), though my personal favorite years from this decade are 03, 07, and 08. I agree with Ultimatum. If you are a music fan with an open mind and a willingness to actually look for stuff, it hasn't been a weak decade at all.
