I think.....I will have to vote...... "I will wait to see what features are in rock band 2"
Thoughts?
Not a hater of RB just I want to see other peoples opinions after reading the 5 page (or so) article in GameInformer.

Keep this to the general section and this has been done to death.
Also: You're = You are. You were looking for 'your'.

This is like comparing a beautiful woman standing in front of you to a picture in a magazine. I'll take the one that actually exists as opposed to the one that's just full of promises. But for those of you who do go for the magazine, well, at least you'll have some paper to clean up afterwards.

It is pretty simple to me. If the two games have the same setlist i would go with rockband cuz it is a more realistic gaming experience. But with me it completely depends on which has a better setlist in my opinion. So pretty much which has the least metal (sorry just not a fan).

I'm not buying Guitar Hero IV unless the drums are compatible. Microsoft and Sony should do some quality control and just say "Alright boys, enough's enough, all drum kits and guitars need to be standardized on our consoles from now on, deal with it." But they won't do that, even though they already do it for regular controllers and memory cards and junk.
I simply refuse to buy anymore plastic instruments unless they are something truly new, like a keyboard perhaps. I'm not buying more than one drum kit. I'm just not. I don't care if the game is the second coming of Christ with whipped cream and a cherry on top, I'm just not buying it.

I won't be buying guitar hero: world tour. Period.
Not because I'm a HUGE Rock Band fan (I mean I am, but that's not the reason).
Rather, because Guitar Hero 3 was awful. And I'm sure they won't make any changes to the disgustingly forgiving timing, nor will they be any better at making accurate and appropriate charts. There's a big difference between musicians who make videogames and videogame developers who make music games, and Neversoft is clearly the latter.
Harmonix knows what they're doing, so I'll be sticking with them until they decide to call it quits.
Bring on Rock Band 2.

Considering we know very little about GH4, and practically nothing about RB2 (including it's existence), I'd say this poll is far too premature. I'd wait until we have a full setlist confirmed for GH4 and an actual confirmation that RB2 is coming before even asking this.

Im leaning towards GH4 simply because Activision has proven that they can get and will go after the Big named bands and songs. If they release weekly DLC as well, and better instruments then its going to be a no brainer for most people as well i think.

I have a Wii, so GHIV, no contest.
Either go with a game with no online play, no DLC, and quetionable peripherals, or go with the company who isn't afraid to invest the time needed to actually take advantage of the hardware platform.
RB is relegated to my PS2, using Red Octane GH guitars for quality.

If GH:WT gets positive reviews and corrects some very big issues from 3, I'll be getting both, too.

There is always going to be something new, then old, then new again. No way in hell am I buying another video game set of drums. Unless GH4 is like the creation of the whell I have no interest in it. I`m not trying to be a RB homer but GH to me has messed up and is late to the game. RB is the original drum and mic game.

I have faith that Rock Band 2 will MORE THAN deliver.
Also, I am fairly certain all of the mega hype about GH4 will die down after people actually play it and realize it's the same crappy music game as GH3 was but with a couple more instruments to occupy your time with (this is, of course, unless Neversoft has all of a sudden become CONSIDERABLY better at making music games, note charts, etc.).

I'm waiting to rent GH Aerosmith. Like I said in the Motorhead topic if they figure out how to chart a song instead of just making a big mess then GHWT should be pretty good based on the songlist they have so far.

Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles and Sublime are confirmed bands, but no specific songs are given.

Guess I should've said band list but just about any Sublime,Van Halen and Eagles would be good and Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz is probably in and Dammit by Blink 182 since they were in vids. (then again they used Silther to promote GH 3 and that wasn't there untill DLC) Pretty safe to assume Aerosmith and Metallica too.
I don't think they'd blow all their new big names right away so I'm guessing it'll only get bigger but I thought the same for RB and we ended up with The New Pornographers.

I will not give activision any more of my money, regardless. The guitar issue from the Rockband/GH3 release was a major stupid move on their part & shows me my importance to them as a consumer.
This is a capitalist system, YOU are supposed to vote with your money for which company survives & which doesn't. As long as there are enough of you out there that will gladly accept the ignorant business practices of companies like activision because you just have to have some song or whatever, THEY will never learn and will continue to trample the people that pay their salary.

I'm holding off on buying either until I've had a chance to thoroughly review both games.
I have a PS3 and could never get GH3 to work correctly (lag problems) so I turned it in for the Wii version.
Activision had mentioned DLC for the Wii GH3 but it never happened. Activision is now promising DLC for GHWT for the Wii. There are rumors that Nintendo is working on an external HD which would make DLC possible.
On the other hand, HMX has done nothing but screw up the PS3 version of RB. Before I purchase RB2 I need to know whether they have:
1. Fixed the tinny vocals & vocal lag.
2. Fixed solo tour scrolling issues.
3. Implemented friends met.
4. Implemented voice chat.
5. Implemented the upcoming trophy system (including tying into HOME whenever it's finally released).
6. Created new, reliable instruments.
At this point I'm unhappy with both developers. Whichever one decides to actually address the full functionality of the PS3 or the Wii will be the one that will get my $$$.

Depends on what Rock Band 2 offers and whether Neversoft gets their s**t together with GHWT. Rock Band is pretty much out of the question because it's weak if you're a bassist (Easy ass songs/no solo tour). I'm leaning towards Guitar Hero 4, unless it still sucks.

You didn't include an option for "Both" nor did you put anything in there relating to "There is not enough information out there yet to decide." I, like many, will not call myself a dumbass, my wife already does a good job of that.
It's a tough call for me. I love Rock Band because I can actually play the parts on Medium or above level and not fail out 50 times... I'm a real guitarist and the Rock Band Guitar may seem "easier" but I like many, believe it's due to better note mapping. The GH3 mapping just is so non-economical, and I can barely get through Medium career without having to practice/play songs over and over. The intriguing part to me is the drums... I love the drums and would probably buy the game and the drum set for the percussion only. (They should call that the "Drum Hero" package.) The set looks cool, I love the cymbals.
The music composition for me is worth a look, jury will be out until I try it.
Plus, I am lucky enough to be able to afford to purchase both games and accessories, but if Activision doesn't make their stuff compatable with others (and vise-versa), they are again going to lose a lot of customers.

I've been thinking about this, and IMHO, the ball is in Neversoft/Activision's court. If they develop the new peripherals to work with RB, I think that would go a long way towards making good on that whole issue. If the peripherals were cross compatable (RB stuff works with GH:WT and vice versa), then I would definitely buy WT. I'm not going to lie and say I know the in's and out's of making that work, but I do know that Activision can do something about it before WT releases.
Some might argue that they would lose out on sales with people buying just the game and not getting the bundle. I guess not fixing the compatability issue is a gamble they might take to sell a few more bundles as opposed to selling more game discs.

well.
1. Its not Guitar Hero 4. Its Guitar Hero World Tour... GH:WT for short.
2. Not even possible to vote because GH:WT isn't Out yet, and the whole setlist isn't even announced.
3. Rock Band 2 isn't even announced.

Regardless of what Guitar Hero has to offer, I'm pretty much commited to Rock Band. I plan to buy Guitar Hero games stand alone for the guitar (and likely vocals for World Tour), but I doubt I'll be buying any more plastic instruments... okay, maybe a Les Paul with GH:A (since all I have is an xplorer and can't play coop).

So many features on GH:WT fail to convince me. Stuff like activating overdrive by tapping on the mic 'or making a similar sound' immediately raises the possibility that you'll be going into overdrive without planning to, all the time. With the drums, the cymbals/overdrive system sounds like it would allow you to activate overdrive whenever you want... but if you think about the chart for something like Next To You or whatever, when the hell are you going to get a moment to take your sticks off the pads you're supposed to be hitting? You'll still wind up having to wait for an opportune moment, without the fun that the drum fills bring.
The open strum on the bass seems like another pointless addition. It doesn't really make for a more realistic experience - there's no open strum for A,D, or G, and - you know - why not have an open strum on guitar as well? Loads of riffs have an open E in them - like Enter Sandman. And what will it add?
I dunno. An awful lot of the added stuff just seems to be there without any real thought as to how it will make for a more fun game.
