View Full Version : GRRRR! Four broken wireless guitars...

I'm on my fourth wireless strat for the 360 and the tilt sensor doesn't work on any of them. I went through the stock of all the Best Buys around where I live, so I guess I have to wait for EA.

It especially sucks because I have a Rock Band party planned for June 20th and didn't want to have someone slumming it again with the Guitar Hero Xplorer. Who would have thought it was so hard to find a wireless guitar when every freakin' store in town has them in stock!

If you are planning on buying a wireless, do yourself a favor. DON'T!

(On a side note, I took the back off one of the guitars and put a multimeter to the tilt sensor. They weren't registering at all. I think the sensors they are using for the wireless guitars are faulty. Why they haven't initiated a recall is something that we should all be wondering about.)

Edit: HOLY CRAP! On the warranty return page, it doesn't even have an option for "Tilt sensor isn't working"!!! Just freakin' awesome...

Edit 2: DOUBLE CRAP! The on-line system won't let me do a return! I have to call it in. At every step, EA just drives it in a little deeper. Bastards.

Edit 3: On the phone, you only have three choices: Bad fret buttons, bad strum bar, or not working at all. When I said it wasn't working, it said my best option was to use the website. I was upset before. I've now gone to just plain angry.

Edit 4: Okay - now I'm ready to set EA on fire. I just got off the phone with them. First, I have to fax or e-mail them a copy of the receipt to prove I'm still within the 60 day warranty period. THE WIRELESS GUITAR HASN'T BEEN OUT FOR 60 DAYS YET!

Now for the best part: I can't do the "rapid return" (where you put down a credit card as collateral and they send you a replacement right away) because they are afraid I'm going to lie to them. They told me that they are afraid people are going to say they have a wireless guitar and then ship back a wired guitar. Of course, if I did do that, they have my credit card and could charge me, right? Oh, no (says the jerk on the support line) - that's just too much trouble for EA. (Of course - they need the receipt first, so it's easy to PROVE that I have a wireless, but they still think I'm going to rip them off.)

So - I've got a defective product that was poorly made and I have to PROVE TO EA THAT I'M NOT A LIAR!

Moral of the story: DON'T BUY A ROCK BAND WIRELESS STRAT!!!!!

P.S. I am making it my mission to buy and return every broken guitar from every Best Buy within 40 miles. Since I can't won't be able to get a working guitar for my party despite trying to buy one THREE WEEKS before, I figure I can at least screw up EA's retail stats for the Chicagoland area.

Try walmart. Perhaps BB's stock is the broken batch. I have a wireless with absolutely no issues. Box it up, go to WM and exchange.

Well, I took your advice and tried that. I returned Guitar #4 to Best Buy and bought a new one at WalMart (the Super one in Joliet, IL).

Still no worky.

That's 5 guitars and not a single one works.

Screw this - I'm going to get my money back and stop trying to get one that works.

I've had the same problem with the wireless guitars but I first learned how to play sitting on the couch in a position non-conductive to raising to guitar anyway so I got used to hitting the select button with my knuckle to use the juice. On my third wireless guitar that just goes off whenever it wants to, I opened it and unhooked the tilt sensor and just use select all the time now. Once you've got the hang of it, it's better for keeping a combo than moving the whole guitar anyway.

It's great if that is what you prefer, but the guitars should still work as intended. EA has (as of yet) refused to recall what is obviously a seriously flawed product. I've submitted this to the gaming blogs Joystiq and Kotaku, so hopefully one of them will pick it up and let people know what is going on.
