Celebrity Skin - Hole

I think after you play WDoA you'll change your mind, the whole song is really fun...granted it is kinda long and slower...

Ditto. Boo for people who killed Kurt Cobain.

Although, I'd assume after being around Courtney Love for so long, he was probably already dead inside...

I was never in to the whole Bon Jovi thing, but then again I hate Avenged Sevenfold, but Beast and the Harlot was fun to play. WDoA may be fun but it's not my favorite.

I'll probably say celebrity skin just to go along with the crowd. Don't understand all the hatin on C&C though. Even if you dont like the song it still has some pretty good guitar work in it.

While I'm not really looking forward to it, I think Coheed and Camria will be fun in a 'this songs sucks so bad it's funny' way - it's really over the top and pretentious, so that could fun to get drunk and do. It's not like the bore-fest that the Foo Fighters song is.

Celebrity Skin, much like the other 20 people that already said they will play it least.

Seriously, did they actually take a survey and people wanted to play this?

LongDarkBlues
10-16-2007, 08:56 AM
I'm sure they were just looking for song with a chick vocalist and electric guitars - I imagine that's why Garbage is in there, too.

I would have gone with some early PJ Harvey - 50ft Queenie, perhaps? - or some Fiery Furnaces song. Maybe Patti Smith? There aren't a whole lot to choose from if you're limited to having instrument-separated masters.

Xzyliac
10-16-2007, 09:03 AM
Harmonix really supported Garbage back in the day so they don't surprise me. Same for Flyleaf (they featured Christian bands back in the day). I honestly love Garbage.

Hole is really bad but at least they'll keep me awake.

I love seeing Courtney Love in a game with Nirvana. I'm sure the Nirvana fans are luvin' that.

As for good bands with female vocals Cranberries, Jefferson Airplane, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Nightwish, and The Donnas come to mind.

Dolores O'Riordan or Nightwish = vocals Jordan

1. Hole
2. C&C
3. Molly Hatchet

I really have no idea why they thought Hole would be a good band to be in this game. I always thought them to be a joke of a band, beloved only to their few fans. It's also an insult to all the true great female bands out there to say that they needed a girl band, and threw in Hole because they filled a quota. I really hope it's not too late for HMX to switch out this band for a much, much better one. (The Gathering, Lacuna Coil, Evenescence, Flowing Tears, Heart, Jefferson Airplane, The Pretenders, ect...)

Every song with a female vocalist. None of my friends are gonna want to sing chick songs and neither am I so we're never playing those crappy songs. Why couldn't they just put Barracude by Heart in like GHIII did, to have a good song with a female vocalist.

I can somewhat agree, but what if you just turn down the track's master vocal volume, and it would be just you singing? You wouldn't even know it was a chick song, possibly.

Well I have the same issue with Maps and Celebrity Skin. The lyrics are blatantly feminine.

That's why the lack of Joan Jett and Dolores O'Riordan kind of surprise me. Good instruments and pretty unisex lyrics. Same for Barracuda.

Maps sounds like a damn shampoo commercial. Instruments and all.

Is that really a problem? its just a song...

Is that really a problem? its just a song...

Well sure! And as a woman, I'm just going to hate playing all those "dick" songs. "Mississippi Queen", "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", "Highway Star" ...

Oh, wait, no I won't, because they're awesome songs.

I mean, if you want to never play Hole because it's ... well, it's Hole, then by all means. But "I'm never playing chick songs" simply because it's a female singing and some of the lyrics dare reflect that? Please.

Xzyliac
10-16-2007, 11:46 AM

No not really. Like I love singing Tattooed Love Boys and Crazy On You from GHII as well as Take It Off by The Donnas (who own by they way). I have no problem with blatantly feminine songs but those were particularly awesome songs as well.

Maps, Celebrity Skin, not so much.

I mean, if you want to never play Hole because it's ... well, it's Hole, then by all means.
Yeah I think that's what I said here. Again if it's a great song big whoop. I mean I can name a million feminine songs I love (see Regina Spektor's music) but the music itself has to be good enough for me to warrant giving a ****.

Flirtin' With Disaster and Dani California will be played the minimal ammount of times and never played again, reading about the set up they may not have to be played at all.

I'll play it for the drums, and maybe vocals once or twice if i'm feeling tired, but it was on a store DVD when I worked at Journey's back in the day, so I'm pretty much sick of it already lol

And I guess mine would be Celebrity Skin because its the only song I haven't heard and a lot of people say it.

I think i'm gonna skip any song sung by a female (i.e. Hole, Garbage, Flyleaf). As I will be playing the vocals/guitar, I cannot sing anything sung by a chick.

Don't forget Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters). No, I am not loving that fact that Courtney Love is in this game... so damn ugly :(

I have a conspiracy theory that Courtney Love wouldn't let Harmonix use any Nirvana material unless Hole was put in the game as well, as she is still has a large portion of Nirvana's licensing rights. I, like most people here as it seems, really do not like Hole or Courtney Love for that matter.

That David Bowie song. If I knew nothing about Rock Band, I'd think Suffragette City was the only song in the game.

Honestly, how much different videos have you seen with them playing this song? It's not even that good of a track!
"Ow! Don't bleed on me man, this song is really ****ty. Had enough of Suffregette City."

Man, you all hating on Maps are crazy. It's a chill song, it's not some crazy rocker, and it's not supposed to be. Most shows you go to you're gonna hear some slower tempo songs if for no other reason than to let everybody, band and audience both, catch their breath.

Hell, my favorite songs on GHI was Even Rats. I would play that sometimes just to relax, just to chill out and listen to the song. It was soothing, in a weird sort of way, to know that I don't have to stretch my fingers for 10 minutes just to get through a song.

But, as for me, I am least looking forward to Welcome Home. I like exactly one C&C song, and it's not this one (its A Favor House Atlantic, btw), so I'm not amped about playing this one, but as with most games like these, I'm sure I'll enjoy playing the note charts, but it's not going to be something that I play over and over just for fun.

I don't actually mind Celebrity Skin. I loathe Courtney Love with the burning heat of a thousand exploding suns, but when you divorce the song from its creator, it's a cute little rocker tune that may be fun to play. That plus In Bloom and Evenflow and the unusually high number of other early 90s songs will satisfy the grunge in me. (I'd rather have Breed or some tracks off In Utero, though.)

Least played will probably be Mississippi Queen. Not because it stinks, I just don't know it, and it doesn't catch on me from the few times I've heard it in preview videos. It's just generic classic rocky stuff. I also don't care much for the "modern" rock entries because again, don't know 'em from Adam.

To everyone who hates Nirvana and Hole a solution is in place. It is Plan CS. The plan is to put an utterly generic Hole song in and then have the track by Nirvana removed by the band. Then we extract the Hole song and any of it's influences, and incinerate it. And then there will be cake.

I'm not hating on Maps, it's still a good song; Im just saying when I have my friends over, I can see it being a buzzkill rather than a soother provided the situation. For example, lets just say we're doing the WTM; we play Highway Star, then Detroit Rock City, then Maps, then Gimme Shelter (Although Im sure Harmonix wouldn't set it up like that...). I can assure that in that situation, my friends and I would have the least fun with Maps. We won't play it often because it's chill; we're too hopped up on sugar, energy drinks and in my friends' cases other substances to have a chill moment. By myself though, I probably will play about as much as the other songs (other than my favorites *Highway Star*). Also, my singer is into death metal....so it probably won't cope too well with him :)
