View Full Version : Am I EVER going to get a properly working Drum Pad set? EVER?

I'm at my absolute wit's end.
My now 3rd drumset, direct from customer support, is also a giant piece of garbage. It drops notes like it's going out of style.
Ever since I got Rock Band back in Dec '07, I've been having nothing but problems from my drum pads. Constant non-registering hits and just shoddy ass workmanship. I've swapped pads from other sets i've been sent and even that is failing to work now.
Is it really that much to ask to just have a working drum pad set so that I can play the game the way it should be? I'm so sick of calling customer support, which isn't toll free and I'm in Canada, and I'm so sick of waiting in anticipation only to test out my replacement pads and find out they're just as crap as the ones they replaced.
So utterly annoying and unnecessary. I have so much DLC and I feel robbed for supporting such a presentation of a game. After playing through Frequency, Amplitude, all GHs, I figured this would go further. But no.
It's one disappointment after another that is going to cause me to stop buying songs and start saving that money for GH:IV. It just seems to be much more promising than this has been. Sorry, but we all know it's true. Deep down. And we can tell playing online that the numbers are slimming.
This anger inducing incedent has left me tired. Nite.

Well, I've heard Harmonix is going to start enforcing the 60 Day Warrenty Period, so no, odds are you will never get a working drum set. Don't feel bad. I have the same problem. All three RB guitars I've had are giant pieces of ****. Harmonix is just begging for GH4 to own them. I love Rock Band, but with the non-functional hardware, I've stopped buying DLC. There's no point in paying for songs I can't use.

Nope. Start reading on piezo sensor mod on this board. Quit wasting your time RMAing the crappy drums and just getting crap in return. The piezo sensor mods, either from Radio Shack or website, works great. You will be happy you did, and your never ending RMAs will be over.

well if you guys are interested, goodwoodmods just made a new stealth drumset using mesh heads, it goes for 200$ you can find it at www.goodwoodmods.com, i just ordered mine cuz i was sick of RMAs and cuz of the new enforcement of the 60 day policy
looking forward to it: improved registry (no dropped notes), rebound and super quiet!!

Any linkage?
I'm not really willing to drop $200 on custom pads that I already spent $169 to get.

Use the search function on piezo sensor mod. They have step by step on how to do this. I got sick of RMAing myself. Bought piezo sensors from Radio Shack for $1.99 a piece, taped it to the back of the pads, and presto, I am now a tier 9 drummer.

This is a copy/paste from a response I made to a similar thread, since I don't see that you mentioned this:
Calibrate, calibrate, calibrate.
Oh, and did I mention, calibrate?
Calibrate!!!
Seriously, people always blame the drums/models -- and admittedly, they many times are a problem -- but I always blamed the models until I did some calibration, and could tell a WORLD of difference. Granted, I still get occasional drops, but I can often go through a song with zero drops.
Go to Orange Crush on practice mode, expert. See how "off" it is. Then, adjust the calibration, + or - 20ms (the very first calibration -- leave the second two alone). Go back and see if there's any improvement. Repeat this process until you feel it's almost right. Then reduce your increments to +/- 10ms or 5ms.
Do yourself a favor: calibrate.

I have a standard tv, and the notes registered fine. It's not always the same colour that drops. I did have a fully working set from different pads, but they eventually wear out.

I had the same problem. Got three drums sets, all of which had a problem with them. However, if you open them up you will notice that all of the parts with each drum kit are pretty much inter-changeable. All you have to do is figure out which pads work and which pads don't. Switch the pads to make it so that one drum kit has pads that work and one that doesn't. I did this and have had no problems with my drums for one month *knocks very hard on wood*
Just make sure when you unplug the sensor that you are very careful not to rip the connector off of the actual stand part.
Hope this helps
